With a rear view like that this project should be called Kim Kardashian. Nice work!

Why would you disgrace this thread and this car by bringing up that name?

RS-Chris 11-21-2014 12:45 PM

With the physical wheel, ride height and track width heading in the right direction and really falling where we wanted them to, we could pretty much finalize the concept as we approached the aesthetic part of the build. There were many tweaks and revisions along the way, but it was around this point we established the final 'look' for the car.

Why did you choose to go with a screwed on fender flare vs welding?

Looks very aggressive, just curious.

omiotek 11-21-2014 02:49 PM

My opinion is because they wanted something easily removable and fixable if you hit something.... Plus the rivit look is oh so "because race car"

Definately glad you guys are letting us see the work

Vince@Meanstreets 11-21-2014 05:17 PM

As my old boss Mike Marsh use to always tell me "welds suck, rivets are lighter" LOL

WSSix 11-21-2014 08:46 PM

Chris is this car slotted to compete in any exhibitions or events?

Exactly: not that anyone is planning on dinging the car, but the risk is there. Making the flares in sheetmetal would be initially possible, but any damage would be very costly having to either repair or replace the sheetmetal piece. With the carbon 'bolt-on' pieces, if one gets damaged, we have the all the molds to make them exactly the same forever.

(and it looks cool)

Not yet. The SEMA debut was really the first reveal of the car in 'built' form. We are planning a few months of performance setup, shakedown, suspension tuning track laps etc to make sure it is fully dialed in and bombproof.

glassman 11-22-2014 10:46 AM

Can you guys/GOPro loan it to Ken Block for his next Gymkhana? haha, it would look sick doing that though....

It looks so rugged, like it's saying don't **** ! with me

The fab work on all of your cars is the best in the industry!

Mind blowing workmanship.

preston 11-22-2014 06:22 PM

So you guys have any idea what the final bare chassis with roll cage weighed ? I know there is always a question of what was included in the weight but just curious if you knew.

Also what does the completed car weigh ?

vstol 11-23-2014 09:29 AM

And the rest of the story is....

Build-It-Break-it 11-23-2014 02:18 PM

They should do a TV show on you guys. I guarantee it would blow all the other car shows out of the water. Just seeing the process that goes into each build would be amazing.

tjbruning 11-25-2014 10:49 PM

Awesome job, one of my favorites from SEMA.

We didn't get a chance to weigh the chassis and cage. The whole car weighed in at 3100lbs dry.

We get more done with no cameras around! Unfortunately you touched on the reason for lack of decent car shows out there. 'The Process' doesn't make for good network ratings. Made up drama, deadlines and bad acting seem to make up what passes for car shows these days. We'd rather just build cars...

RS-Chris 12-03-2014 03:40 PM

Time for some updates!

With the foundation of the car coming together we could turn our attention to creating the carbon pieces we needed to give this car the shape and look we wanted.

Figuring out how to do this was a process in itself. With foam being the fastest to build shape and carve, we set about creating the 'jig' to both hold the foam we poured and establish guides and limits for where we could cut and still allow clearance for the suspension articulation. In essence, it had to look as good as it worked.

https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8569/...a8a363f3_b.jpg

As you can see on the rear and then front, as we got the foam close to the shapes we wanted, we added a skim of body filler to refine the surface a little. Still fairly crude at this step, it allowed us to see and feel the shape better and start adding in some of the finer details like edges and creases.

Creating the nose corners and front lower fender allowed us to begin on the mock up of the front splitter.

It's a one-to-one expanding polyurethane foam (Similar to Tap X-30).

pahela2 12-03-2014 04:06 PM

That thing is just plain sick . One of the best looking cars at Sema for sure

Did you end up using the foam as a plug to re-lay a full carbon panel or did it become final as shown?

The pieces you see being formed are essentially the plugs. Usually, molds would be pulled from these pieces. In this case, we went a little further as you will see soon!

...which is why they have to be built with a sturdy material.

The hardest part is to keep both sides the same. Right?

GEN_X 12-05-2014 09:38 AM

This thing is so cool. Are you guys planning on making a cool artistic video of the car? Showcasing all the details

something like;
http://vimeo.com/79706611
but with more fitting music. We have got to see videos of this thing rolling.

I wanna see this car at Laguna Seca! Or better yet, Nurburgring!!
