Fiberglass/composite body with full aero, and race slicks. Power would be a Duttweiler type V6 twin turbo motor, light as anything, and huge power (750-ish HP), and the car weight would be around 2300 lbs, wet, less if possible. Sequential trans, three link (of course) rear. Maybe it wouldn't have the refinement of a current Daytona Prototype car ($500k with motor...), but with the extra 200 HP, it would be able to hang with them without too much trouble on the track. Now that's what I call "in your face" cool. I'd put a bumper sticker on the back that says "Bite Me." And I'd probably buy stock in Hoosier too.

The bumper sticker should say "If you can read this it's because I broke something"

I'd do a full on roadracing 73 trans-am
a pt'ed 32 sedan delivery
Roadracing Superbird

the more i think about it, i think another project would be a car i could go racing with also. no interior, just a track car. would love to do the trans am challenger or aar cuda thing, but would probably end up racing an old dart, theyre cheap and lightwieght.

Funny you post pics of that Challenger, I was just at a show last night & saw this exact car, in it's original state. Turns out the guy owns like 20 original Trans-Am cars including the original Penske Sunoco 69 Camaro. I wish I wold have had my camera. I like the old vinatge stuff.

Ricochet 06-10-2006 09:56 PM

Noe back to the question...My next project is the car I planned on building along time ago. A 68 Camaro Convert, with a removable hardtop. EFI big block, 6 spd, etc...I know..I know... Just another Camaro..But atleast it's not a 69 :D Just Kidding 69 owners ...I love the 69's, just sometimes it's nice seeing something different. Remember this is coming from a guy building something really different..a 55 Chevy... :D

tracy 06-10-2006 10:44 PM

I think I would like to do a 70 Camaro and/or a 71 Monte C with a LS7.

ProTouring442 06-11-2006 04:01 AM

Hmmmm.... Wow, that's a toughie! I always have at least a dozen or so projects swimming in my head. A few thoughts are:

Chevy Corvair; shorten the rear of the car a bit, make it front engined, maybe shorten the whole thing and make it a two-seater, Buick V-6 with a turbo.

Chevy Monza; The thing looks Ferrari-ish from the doors back, make the front look Ferrari-ish, Northstar, trick suspension, Ferrari-ish interior.

BMW 635; LS-X Power, upgrade the suspension and brakes.

Chevy Vega; Buick Turbo motor (stock), Upgrade the suspension and brakes, nice interior, would make a great daily-driver.

Fiat Spider; Maybe a Buick V-6 supercharged from an SSEi, or one of the "Shortstar" motors from an Aurora, or a Quad-4, cool country road cruiser.

79-80 Olds Cutlass; LS-X, 6-speed, suspension and brakes, would make a nice budget minded pro-tourer

Alfa GTV; Quad-4, 6-speed, upgrade the brakes. They just look cool.

70-76 Olds Custom Cruiser Wagon; Some sort of diesel, big brakes, GREAT tow vehicle.

Well, I'm sure there are at least a dozen more, but I think that should do it.

Shiny Side Up!

My wife wants a 69 corvette! My father used to race a 66 Dickey Harrell built chevelle and I would like to do something for him along those lines. It will be a clone of course. I would also like to do a 69 fastback mustang PT style!

the engine shop just built a 414" sb2 with very similar specs a couple weeks ago...made 835hp @the crank.... this one should make right at 700hp.....and just keep in mind the truck should tip the scales at about 2100lbs:D

race-rodz 06-11-2006 04:54 PM

as for the "next" project.... well when the "shop truck" finds a new home, i am gonna do something with the 33 chevy 3 window body i have.... take the shop truck and triple the cool factor. big inch LSx, AWD, super low full track set up, and it "might" get painted.........nah

Project_Gotham 06-11-2006 05:04 PM

I would like to build a pro-street car to pound up on for fun. But I always wanted to have a Ultima GTR car to build.
Does anyone know how much the Ultima car kit goes for?

USAZR1 06-12-2006 08:04 PM

I'd like to build another 57 Nomad. Chassis would be a Paul Newman unit with C5/C6 IFS,C4 Dana 44 IRS,and full Air Ride set-up. Engine would be a 93-95 LT5 with 6L80 trans. Paint will be HOK Quiksilver with Red leather interior by Teas Design.

Payton King 06-13-2006 06:29 AM

Late to the party again...

Number of cars come to mind. 55 nomad or 61 chevy bubble top, but the winner is a 58 buick special.

I cannot get the pictures to load. I will send them to Scott

Musclerodz 06-13-2006 07:59 AM

After the Blazer and Camaro are finished, if I haven't bought anything else, I have a '69 Firebird to do. Otherwise it will more than likely be a Factory Five Cobra spec racer.

MaxHarvard 06-13-2006 08:03 AM

I'm thinking of a 65 malibu... or... a Daytona coupe kit car :D

ohcbird 06-13-2006 08:15 PM

Either a Factory Five GTM200, or an Ultima GTR. Both LSX powered & light.

next project

since I've sold my camaro, and missed it some, I've been thinking of doing a '70-'72 Pontiac LeMans convert. Nothing radical - dropped, big wheels and brakes, hotchkiss suspension. no show quality paint - just a driver to beat on. I want one of these b/c you hardly ever see them compared w/ chevelles or cutlasses (nothing at all wrong w/ those makes, just more common), and my mom and dad had a 2-door hardtop when I was young.

KillaCamaro67 06-14-2006 09:21 AM

i would do a 66 Catalina..

or a 66 Tempest.. so i can roll all day and not worry about fakin up a nice GTO

as a cruiser tho..

67 Cougar:
69 Eliminator Hood Scoop, Black Chin Spoiler, Black 69 Mach 1 Spoiler, Matte Black Hood, Pale Yellow Paint, Side Exhaust, Black Bassett D-Windows w Hoosiers, basic stock interior with roll bar and harnesses. T-5 Swap... Manual Steering... Mustangs Plus Handling Kit, and a high-winding 289 with a carb... kind of a vintage racer/ musclecar with a little NASCAR influence. Nothing fancy... just a car to beat the snot out of and cruise a little. we're talking home prep and Earl Scheib paint here...

Never really thought about doing a Coug before.. but my dad's friend has one he wants to get rid of thats solid and complete... so who can resist free cars? Not I...

camcojb 02-24-2007 08:19 AM

well, since this old thread got revived, how about a 1970 Maverick G-machine or even as a track car driven on the street? :willy:

Well the wife gets the next one and she wants a truck...she has a thing for older trucks! But of course it would get the g-treatment if I have anything to do with it! Oh and I will use a LSx next time as well!!

I'm thinking an early 40-50's truck on an AME frame using C5 suspenion, Shrifter kit, large brakes, VA, usable but supportive seats, and of course Fikse wheels! I think it could be cool and I'm sure it would keep me out of the dog house for quite a while! Now off to the store to get lottery tickets!!!

What it is going to look like, and what it looks like now......

Really traditional hot rod, with PT-car underpinnings. 3-link, adjustable C/O's, our IFS front or C5, power steering, ZZ4 with tri-power, tuck & roll. It should be a fun mix of old and new. This is my wife's car and has done all the design ideas for the car.

Great ?... I have had this idea brewing for some time to do a really light weight style street car kinda like a overpowered go cart of sorts,
And not really a big tuner wing type fan but would love to do a new toyota yaris witha a complete tube chassis and an ls-2 in it all under the hood and maybe even chopped top but would be a blast with big roller's onit for hndling and just flat out fun heres a quick sketch i put together for the cost and power to weight would be way fun....

Jay Hilliard 05-21-2007 06:18 AM

I always have liked the 80-81 corvettes. I would love to own another 80, but update suspension and drop in a LS2 and T56. Its not old school yet, but it would a very nice cruiser.

Smack_talker 05-21-2007 07:47 AM

Mind you that this list chages daily...

1)1970 Chevelle SS (never should have sold my 70 SS 454 LS6)
2)1982 Mustang GT (another one I should never have sold)
3)FFR Cobra
4)1970 Super Bee wagon.
5)NASCAR 1986-88 Monte SS
6)Old school NASCAR big ford, Galaxy, Torino
7)69-70 Cougar Eliminator recreation

70-73 camaro

frankenstang 05-21-2007 01:24 PM

Nice to see everyone on the same bandwagon. I wanna do an old early 60's Beetle. California style with a twin turbo V6 of some type and a porsche transaxle. Full tube frame of course and a SLA front suspension. I would have to extend the rear a tad to cover the engine. I think keeping the engine in the back would be easier. But the Ultima guys have figured out how to make the trans work flipped upside down, so I could make it a mid-engine car. Guess that would make it a 2 seater only! Think about how it would look with 245/17's in the front and some 315's in the rear?
