Great seeing everyone and meeting some new folks as well! Tu, thank you for the pictures as well.

What a fun event, although I'm also pretty wiped out today. I'm glad I spent the extra night and drove back this morning instead of last night. The only bad thing I can think to say about this event is that I have to wait 363 more days before I get to do it again! I just don't expect I'll be able to make it to another one this year, although there are a couple I might try for.

Thanx to everyone who is part of the organization which puts these together and to the volunteers who helped make it happen.

Congrats to Amy and KLRBRD for taking home some hardware. She won the Participant Choice Award. Thanks to all who voted for her car. We are thankful for how much support the car gets. Especially considering all the awesome cars at the event! Special thanks to Mike Dusold. He delivered the car to us "concierge" style on Saturday morning. He and his guys worked until midnight Friday night to make sure it was ready for auto-x and speed stop challenge.

Here is a short video of the Intermediate class running. Bryan, Steve, Duston and I were hammering away in this group with a handful of Mustangs and a new Viper TA. This is our 5th run session. We did close to 70 laps for the day. Duston and I ran super close times in this session. He had a 42.982 and I had a 42.980. As you can see he was on my tail. Great times!

A well deserved win for KLRBRD. On the surface alone it was a shoe-in for the win and then you add in the what we know to be under the car and there was no doubt.

With those lap times, I'd you guys are ready for the expert run group. Thats some serious driving.

As the guy in the Hellcat Charger mentioned... take the vette back to the dealer and tell them there is something wrong with the tires. They look like they have a low melting point and wont make it through the summer.

Sweet Jay! I really missed not being there this year.

Tough to find a nicer guy on the planet than Mike!

100% agree Greg. Mike is a great friend, awesome guy with a huge heart and has a wonderful family. His talent, work ethic and skills are off the charts. The new 3-link he designed is fantastic. Linear power, predictable, and terrific road manners. Here is a cool pic from this weekends auto cross.

We also missed seeing you as well. Was looking forward to Weld Financial Partners meetings between runs. HA!

Bryan, how's TOW doing from the event? You ran hard and pushed yourself and TOW to the limits. I know I told you at least 10 times this weekend, but the car sounds awesome, especially from 4 ft off your back bumper. :innocent:

It sure is a bummer we have to wait to next year. HOPEFULLY WE GET A 3RD YEAR OF THIS AWESOME SERIES IN TEXAS!

Tu, you are cracking me up. The Meeker's were a cool family. Dad and son in the Mustang's and Mom (Tina) in the Z06.

Chris, I am not sure what Tina was running in her Z06. I was definitely having a blast in the new Vette. Amazing car right out of the box.

The road course instructors were really helpful. I learned a ton on entry points, braking zones and throttle control as a result of them being in the passenger seat. I boiled the brake fluid in session 5 and pretty sure need to replace the tires and brake pads. I counted close to 75 laps run on Sunday! One of the highlights for the Optima event is the driving instruction. It's priceless.

TOW made it back to Austin in one piece, and she's been parked in the garage since being unloaded. I haven't washed her yet, and since I leave for vacation tomorrow, that will wait until next week. I've got time scheduled on Eric's lift to check and make certain I didn't do any real damage under her with my offs this weekend.

Glad you got a good listen to my exhaust. :action-smiley-027: And yes, it sucks we have to wait a year to do this again. There's a little part of my brain that's been trying to figure out if I could make Vegas in a few weeks, but I know it's not going to happen...

That last session was a blast! Wish I could have gotten gridded up there earlier in the day, but it was fun either way.

I managed to finally get my datalogger and the GPS on speaking terms for that one, but had switched modes on the GoPro at some point so I only got a single photo of my glove in the pre-grid when I hit record..sigh. I have this to remember it by at least?

Still lots of video to edit, but I did get to the pictures my girlfriend got of the odd-number run group Saturday. Shoot me a PM with your email if you'd like a hi-res of any of them.

Fully gallery is here: http://shutterspeeddesign.zenfolio.com/p290782978

Between this and spending Valentine's day at Texas World Speedway last month, I think I'll hold on to her :headspin:

Had I seen this photo earlier I may have ventured into 4th gear earlier. It wasnt until the last session did I start using 4th. Nice work

Tina was very nice. We chatted about our cars in the garage towards the end of the day Sunday. Too bad I did not get to meet her earlier.

Thanks! Yeah, my faster laps I was shifting in the transition onto the straight, and even used it on the back through the kink a few laps as well.

Duston - You were flying out there on the road course. I was behind you for a few laps and thought you going to lift your front inside tire on turn 1. It was barely touching the track. You were certainly balanced near the limit of adhesion and working it well.

chichirone 04-04-2015 07:14 PM

Anybody else having USCA withdrawal? We cleaned up the cars today only to once again realize these events are simply a blast. Hanging with you guys and running the snot out of the cars is just so much fun. I wish we could do it 2x's per month...if only all the other events were closer. :grouphug:

carbuff 04-05-2015 09:40 AM

Yes, me! I get back to Austin on Monday and will clean up TOW. I removed the banners, but she's still filthy. Then over to Eric's this week to make sure there's no damage from my off's. I do have a track day planned for the 17th, so I'll get a small dose of track, but without all the same camaraderie! Las Vegas is 3 weeks away. ;)

Yeah, the only problem with this whole deal was going back to work on Monday :headscratch:

I posted two gigantoid recaps of our weekend in my project thread, if anyone cares to check them out - https://lateral-g.net/forums/show...=15395&page=11

Also found this looking the car over - 'street' tires!

GregWeld 04-06-2015 06:51 AM

Mothers Wax makes a fantastic product called 3R...... Racing Rubber Remover. Takes that right off and doesn't hurt your finish at all.

Felt odd not touching the car this weekend. I've been steadily working on the car for 6 weeks straight and now nothing. I found myself trying to think of things to do to it while working on my backlogged list of honey-do's. "must not touch car". I could prob spend a month straight on those and still not be done with them. :waveflag:

As far as upcoming events are concerned, Im going to try and hit as many SCCA events as I can. Maybe I can clinch the CAM-S class trophy this year. (I don think there is anyone else running it) Pro-SOLO is 6/6 and 6/7. Im planning on being out there. I'd like to fit a track day in somewhere. Im not looking to turn the hot rod into a full on racecar and be a track junky but a couple track days a year would be fun to do.

Gscherer78ta 04-06-2015 11:18 AM

+1!

I had a very busy March and now nothing for April and I'll be searching high and low for events in May and June. I cleaned the TA up this weekend and it sat, what a shame.

We could organize our own day out in Mineral Wells for not a lot of money, get 5-10 cars together and I think we could do it. AutoX in the morning and time trial in the afternoon... Just an idea.

For some reason April is pretty sparse? The BMW Club is running on the 18th, and NTAXS is on the 25th, but I can't make either one, of course.

A double event at Mineral Wells would be a blast..

chichirone 04-08-2015 12:16 PM

Greg, 2x the thx for the R3 suggestion.

Greg, Duston and Chris...we need to get an event scheduled for us to go run. Greg, did you make any headway with ER for a Camaro Club event? We could also get a speed stop and autocross going simultaneously ay LSP or Mineral Wells if we want. Think of it as a mini USCA platform.

carbuff 04-08-2015 07:56 PM

Another thanx for the R3 recommendation. I will need it. TOW was filthy when I washed her yesterday, and today I took her to Eric's to make sure everything looked ok underneath. No real problems although lots of rock chip damage. But I had rubber everywhere! That track was seriously abrasive. My tires look pretty worn, and I think I'm going to be digging rubber out of places for a while.

I stripped down the front spoiler to prep for recoating since I destroyed the plasticoat. I'll pick up some of the R3 to get the rest off the paint on the sides. And I'm still ready to do it all over again. ;)

Waiting for LSP to confirm 9/26. Autocross and speed stop.

I think we should get about 10 of us and go out to Mineral Wells and have another day event! Do autocross in the morning and set up a larger time trial kind of course in the afternoon.

Hey Dustin- PM me please- I want to know what suspension stuff you're running.

Im campaigning hard with the wife to get out to MW for the Pro-Solo event. 2 days of Drag style, head-to-head, mirrored autocross racing. I didnt see anyone running CAM class and besides Dusold, there was no other Classic Muscle out there. Should be fun. We could do Northstar Dragway the Friday night before to get used to launching from a tree and then cruise out to MW Saturday Morning as a group. I'll likely be camping at MW State park with the family to make it even more fun.

When is this event? I'm interested in this event! Sounds like a blast. Chris, my son and I have camped out there several times before/after/during the autocross events and it is a blast! He loves it, race during the day and camp at night doesn't get much better for a boy!

I didnt know ER was doing that. I may have to go out to that one as well as a warm up. I see Mike D registered. Technically I should be in CAM-S but I wonder if Mike would cry foul if I registered to run against him in CAM-T. :lmao:
