Yes, install the insulation. It will give it a richer sound and tricks the driver into thinking it's in a larger enclosure. Been doing it for years, mostly in sub boxes.

Great looking wheel/tire package! Can't wait to see it on the ground!!

Thanks! Now I have to take it apart and put the insulation in :) ..... In all seriousness, that makes great sense, I should have asked before I rushed to install the speakers.

Great looking project! Love the wheels, will like to see this one progress!

Awesome project!

So how about a long overdue update? I won't type much on what all I accomplished here. I finally got the car on the ground. One thing you guys will notice throughout is I did pull the trigger on the MaxJax lift. It certainly made this process much easier!

On to the pictures:

I decided to go with a Raingear hidden wiper system which works along side my smoothed out firewall. While I obviously haven't had the oppurtunity to use the wipers I will say the overall fit and finish was excellent.

https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5626/...fbd97e14_c.jpgIMG_0030

My Fesler Taillights also arrived just in time for me to test fit them. You will notice that I was only able to install the passenger tail light. I actually encountered my first "issue" with the car. The Tail panel is off pretty bad on the driver's side. I am sure it's due to using repop sheetmetal so this area will have to have some work done to it prior to paint. Hopefully the issue is easily remedied. I will say though that the tail lights are top notch. They took a while to get but I am very happy with the quality.

I also purchased a steering column from GM Tilt. Since I plan to use push button start this is a shaved key column Have not installed yet but we all love pictures so here they are:

I also purchased A DSE dash insert to begin the thoughts and overall layout for my dash panel. Not much progress here outside of the switch panel that you see a couple of photos of. I found a source for very high quality switches with a huge assortment of labels that illuminate. Overall a very OEM look. If anyone needs the information just let me know and I will pass along.

And last but not least pictures of various stages as I installed the front subframe, rear suspension and wheels. Also ran into a couple of snags here. For one you will note the hubs on the front wheels protrude past face of the wheel. Not exactly the look I was going for but I have come up with a plan to correct and parts are ordered/on the way. Two, the tie rod is interfering with the wheels but the same solution to problem one also corrects problem two. What the hell, it's just money right? :G-Dub:

The only issue with the solution to problem #1 and #2 is that my brakes that I currently have won't work. Anyone need a set of mocked up Track 4 Baer brakes????

Thats it for this update..next round of updates will likely be a motor. Still deciding which route but believe I am set on builiding a 416 Stroker LS3 using a low lash roller setup. If you aren't familiar with a LLR setup just google and look at the results guys are getting from stock cube LS3 motors.

waynieZ 09-04-2015 04:02 PM

Nice update, you've got it looking good. That sounds like a nice motor.

tubbed69 09-04-2015 04:34 PM

Nice job so far, great parts.Really like the wheels:thumbsup:

Car is coming along nicely. Good job!

DOOM 09-05-2015 06:51 AM

Was this one of Mikes cars or did you send him yours? Mike built my floor awile back and is a true master with the welder !!!

waynieZ 09-05-2015 12:47 PM

He does do beautiful work.

tmadden 09-05-2015 03:32 PM

Looking good. Keep the great pics coming.

lsuguy 09-08-2015 05:56 AM

Thanks Guys!

It was one of Mike's cars that he wanted to sell. Like I said in a previous post everything has been spot on with the exception of the tail panel. It is going to need some work but I believe it will be an easy fix.

alongfortheride 10-31-2015 08:22 PM

Very nice car

Wow nice update! Car is looking very good. Sucks with the minor issues your having but that seems to just be part of it.

Who makes those switches?

Do you think a DSE motor would work with the Raingear hidden setup? I like the additional speeds of the DSE motor.

alongfortheride 11-01-2015 09:18 AM

I installed the raingear in my 67. It is a nice setup. I think you could make the dse motor work without to much trouble.

Yea, unfortunately it is. It can all be fixed though! Switches are made by Carling. I purchased them through http://www.otrattw.net

Hard to say. I have no experience with the DSE motor to compare. You could probably call rain gear and ask him. I had some shipping problems and the owner/president called me personally. Great company to deal with.

My car needs work on the right side of the tail panel below the bumper too. That wiper system looks like a nice setup.

Interesting..Wonder if its just the repop panels causing the issue...

lsuguy 12-04-2015 03:46 PM

No major updates but I took advantage of Black Friday and ordered my motor and gauges.

Motor is a 416 LS3 stroker from Thompson Motorsports and I ordered my gauges from Speedhut

Also working on all of the pieces to complete the longblock. I had my throttle body and intake manifold powdercoated. Fuel rails are currently being done as well. I will post better pictures as I get everything put together.

Looking great! Nice to start off with a clean body.

lsuguy 12-06-2015 08:16 AM

Hey Wayne. Its just a stock LS3 TB. I did take a dremel to it first to clean up all the casting marks and smooth everything out before sending it out to be powder coated.

lsuguy 07-24-2016 12:51 PM

Figured I was due an update. Progress on the car has been a little slower than I want but some minor updates.

Purchased a few parts one of them being a set of Ring Brother's hood hinges. Absolute works of art. I cant wait to see them on the car.

https://c7.staticflickr.com/9/8399/2...0a8edaa6_c.jpgIMG_0364

I have mentioned that my motor was ordered will it came in a few months back. Thompson Motorsports 416ci LS3 Stroker with CNC LS3 heads and a nasty spec'd Cam Motion cam. I am expecting around 550 at the wheels all motor. On top of that it's setup for a 150 shot in case I want to add a little more fun down the road.

https://c4.staticflickr.com/9/8567/2...9e86b6e6_c.jpgIMG_0380

Couple more shots of the Intake, Throttle Body and Wegner Valve Covers together. The entire motor will be buttoned up with 12 point ARP bolts.

https://c5.staticflickr.com/9/8888/2...aa2e20f5_c.jpgIMG_0264

And some shots of the motor going in and parts being installed.

https://c3.staticflickr.com/8/7547/2...71c1be76_c.jpgIMG_0485

And last but not least on this update. A couple of quick photos of the radiator installed. I went with a powdercoated Autorad setup including their core support. I also opted to go with AN type connections for the radiator hoses that should provide a very clean look for the hoses once I start plumbing everything up.

https://c7.staticflickr.com/9/8172/2...fefd8446_c.jpgIMG_0632

https://c8.staticflickr.com/9/8022/2...967572ed_c.jpgIMG_0631

Hopefully I will have more reasons to update soon. I have another big parts order going in soon for my Transmission, Wegner Front Accessory Drive, Headers, Fuel tank and Master Cylinder. This should give me everything I need to start plumbing for brake and fuel lines.

Thanks Guys. Switches were purchased from the link below. They offer all types of options. I want to say they will even do custom etching on the rockers if needed but I never pursued that route.
