The tight fitment of the pieces pre welding is a work of art in itself, very nice attention to detail.

Here are a few pics of what I got done on Saturday.

Rack mounts complete. Front lower A arm mount brackets complete. Welded out the front frame rail tubes and metal finished them. Did final prep for welding out all of the bracketry.

I am going to form it out of metal first. Then once I lay at the "glass" panels I will cut the templates out and have thick lexan formed to each piece.

Thanks Marty, maybe because I started this new thread? It is back and this time its for good. The timing is right, I am making a major push for the end of next year so stay tuned.

FaBrycation 06-18-2015 10:13 AM

Here is some updates for everyone.

I welded out the new front clip, set the chassis on the table at ride height and proceeded to cut the the old center section out and narrowed the rails 4 inches. This was another design change that was decided when I switched the suspension plan to IFS.

Absolutely awesome! The precision of your work is incredible!

I'm sure you've already considered it but... Any thoughts on maybe a tasteful removable wing that mimics the shape of that iconic twin tail? Too much?
Seems like it would flow and accent that nose really well.

Anyway you do it, its gonna be awesome and I hope to see it in person some day!

Thanks for your enthusiasm! Your brain definitely works like mine. I have spent much time trying to figure out how to include the tail of the plane into the car. Its just so hard to figure out where the line of too much is. I obviously want it to look like the B25 but I also want it to have timeless style. With that said I have not yet figured out how to cleanly incorporate the tail in a way to make it not so "in your face".

If I do I wont hesitate to share!

Check out Foose's "P32"..... he knows how to do kool.... and how to do kool in the hot rod world (not an airplane museum) LOL.

Ive been all about that car since the day it hit the magazines. Definitely one of my favorite builds of all time. I want this car to be the same kind of cool. I want it to scream B25 but in a way that nobody can dislike.

I hope you (and your awesome designer buddy) don't mind that I scribbled on your rendering. The more I look at it the more it feels like it needs a tail with nose and pinched brow. This may not even be close, just a thought.
Because a pictures worth at least 1000 words...

FaBrycation 06-23-2015 06:14 PM

that very well may be the best version of a b25 tail ive seen for the car, however, I dont think that it goes with what I am trying to accomplish with the build. I appreciate your sketch though, it makes it road race looking for sure!

I think it takes away from the classic nature of the car thought. Mainly because I think it takes it from something that everyone can appreciate to something that a portion of people will look at as too much. I also dont want to lessen the impact of the nose and other details that it will have by taking your attention away from it.

Thanks for the input though. I love seeing others ideas!

Why not a rear diffuser with up turned "twin tails"?

Edit: so you only see it from the rear of the car. You have the classic nose, the side view, then get a full mitchell view from the a$$.

Good idea as well. Ill have to play around with that. The car is going to have a belly pan/diffuser I just haven't fully designed the tail end of the car yet.

Build looks great! I do have a fab question for you. What do you guys use to grind the welds down smooth? DA Sander? Flap disc?

Depends on what the weld is on, for the frame tube joints I used a 3" 80 grit to knock the weld off and then a 3" scotchbrite type disc to polish it off and blend it. Once done with that just a quick 150 DA scuff and thats it.

Ok, I can see that. No worries! The diffuser idea may be way more subtle.
Carry on!! :welder:

update

well its been a while since I gave an update on the duck. so here you go.

I have been locking down the final body shapes and lines and because of that I spent quite a while laying things out on paper in the form of scale drawings. Once I locked in the side profile I wanted, I then moved onto a direct front view. Once this was finished I had both views printed out in full scale and from there used them to cut out the start of the wooden buck.

Here are the pictures. enjoy.

Full scale print outs, that makes sense. I wondered how they set up the profiles for a buck.

I'm excited to vicariously follow along!
