The last version of my Falcon hit 92db at Laguna last year--I'm assuming I was pretty deeply into third gear going up the hill. I thought it was too loud, so the Chevy version will be quieter, somehow . . .

Chad-1stGen 09-25-2015 02:52 PM

Do you guys know if Laguna Seca and the NorCal Shelby club allow passengers?

Yes they do Chad.... never on the first run groups of the day but after that yes. You'll need the same gear as the driver would be required to have for the run group you'd ride in, and you have to go check in and sign a waiver and get a wrist band.

Run group requirements:

Helmets: Snell SA2005 M2005 SA2010 M2010 (all groups)

Gloves (ALL groups)

Long sleeve shirts, long pants, adequate shoes / Driver’s suit for Blue group

I have a couple extra helmets if you need one... although usually a track will also have rentals... it's the gloves that can be a problem finding if you don't have them.

Chad-1stGen 09-27-2015 07:59 AM

Cool. Thanks for the info Greg!

Chad-1stGen 10-16-2015 01:15 PM

Registration for this event is now open. I signed up and will be there in my Chevy Camaro to run with the Shelby guys :D :catfight:

Unless I find out its going to pour before 11/20.

You're going to be POOR trying to run that Camaro with all our high speed Mustangs!!! LOL

Glad you've signed up! It's a great track to run.

Laguna 105

Been toying with doing this event even though
I am running there on Nov 1st... no sound limit day
You guys may suck me into it... wish I would have done
the 5 mile at Thunderhill last week.. I think that is the best
track I have been on

Bob

Panteracer 10-16-2015 03:11 PM

Laguna 105

Chad just wanted to let you know that
Laguna is the hardest track I have ever been on for brakes
My Pantera buddy is trying to get his brake upgrade done
before the Nov 1st project.. great equalizer with me and my
Viper buddy as his car is heavier... we run about the same
except in braking at this track... kinda slows him down a bit

Bob

Thunderhill was dang near a perfect weekend! Not to hot - almost but not too bad... Just too many cars running Green group.

I agree with Greg on the Do It part ha ha. Car guys are such enablers...

Thanks for the heads up on the brakes. I will make sure I do a fresh pad change before hitting the track.

Laguna 105 day

I told my wife and the Doc I would lay low for a month
or so until my back gets fixed

I do plan on coming down to hang out for the day
but not running this time..loading up the truck, trailering up
etc really seems to mess things up on me right now

Bob

Chad-1stGen 11-18-2015 02:24 PM

Family will be in town staying with me but I'd like to try to come down for the day and bring my pops with me.

I forgot about the brake failure I had last year. I boiled my sub-par brake fluid and had to get towed--this was in addition to my alternator exploding and blowing out my upper radiator hose, which of course led to overheating . . .

Laguna Seca can be hard on the car; it's a great place to learn about brake fluid boiling points!:bang:

I'm not ready to make the call quite yet -- but looks like I'll just be driving Gwen's Cayenne out... Calling for 2 days of snow beginning on Tuesday here -- and over the pass on I-80... and even more snow about the time I'd be heading home. Danged If I'm going to risk someone else's life, let alone my own, just to drive for one day. So we shall see.

Either way -- I'd be at the track all day on Friday.

I'm hoping -- but right now it's not looking real good. I don't have chains for the rig -- and have "steer" tires on the drivers.... so they have zero traction...

I'm just not going to risk getting caught in the mountains with something that's not equipped for snow of any kind. That would just flat be negligent on my part.

This is one of the reasons I'm toying with a doing a California shop location.... Since I live in the mountains -- and have to drive over them to get to where I use the car! It's a PITA.

GregWeld 11-23-2015 07:22 AM

In an heroic effort to make this event -- I've switched plans and I'm driving down via Las Vegas and back up to Carmel..... so leaving a day early (in a couple hours) and heading out. I really don't want to miss this epic track day.

DBasher 11-23-2015 08:22 AM

Atta boy! I was actually googling your area thinking if you head far enough south you'll be fine......come to think of it, we hit snow in the high desert south of Wells coming home from SEMA a few years ago. Good luck, maybe pack the AEV snowmobile just in case!:hitaxeonthehead:

You are the man! That is a heroic effort. I've got no excuse to finish up my own preparations for Friday lol! I can't wait!

No brainer. What's another of PTO when you've accrued as much as you have?

rustomatic 11-23-2015 11:27 AM

You haven't lived until you've enjoyed Donner Summit in the snow . . .

I just read something about Thunderhill. They're looking into building high bay shops on either side of the entrance to the facility.....might be something worth looking into.

I'm 200 miles out! Sitting at the intersection of CA-46 and I-5..... Now.... for those of you keeping track - It's our 36th Anniversary today. How many wives would spend their 36th anniversary in a semi - parked in a parking lot on their way to spend Thanksgiving, eating dinner in a restaurant... so their idiot dumber half's can track their cars?

I used to live in Alameda... and Reno was part of my territory. I was in my '64 Dodge Polara 500 with it's transplanted 440 and a 4 speed - on street tires -- and was the last car allowed thru before they closed I-80..... it took me 4 hours to drive 50 miles. I made it without any help -- but the only way I could tell there was even a road there was the reflectors marking the guardrails for the snowplows. Lucky for me - there was not a single car coming the other way - so I could take my half out of the middle!

I was working with RAY on renting a shop there when I was there in October. So thinking about it for sure.

Greg,
Happy anniversary... I am going on 39 years
If they stayed with with us this long they know how
crazy we are:)

I have missed almost everyone of my Wife's birthdays
for the last 14 years attending the Monterey Weekend
in August... I blame it on the Pantera

Hope to see you guys on Friday.... planning on taking
the Pantera for a spin down there for the day now that
it is back in street trim and the brake reservoirs are straightened out

Bob

Holy Cow Bob!! 39 years... Gwen and I actually celebrate our first date versus being married. First date anniversary is 44th! Really "all of our lives" together. I was 18 when we started going out.

YES!!! They know exactly how f'd up we are! LOL --- otherwise - who would have us??

Anyone who was on the fence really missed something here. It was a great very low key event with clear cool weather, and no worries about noise. It was really nice visiting with Chad and Greg Weld. There was a good variety of Ameican Muscle too: )

Hats off to Chad, as he drove all the way up from LA in his car to run. Wow! No trailer.

Glad you came by Curtis!! It was a great day! Laguna Seca is such a fun track to run. My family wasn't all too thrilled about the temps today - but oh well...

And yes = 100% agree on Chads effort!! OMG --- but isn't that what Pro Touring is SUPPOSED to be about? Drive your car - track your car - take it on a trip... enjoy the crap out of it? And he's a good track driver too!!
