Yelcamino 02-23-2016 05:36 PM

Not much new to report. I did get some stuff back from the powdercoating guy including the fan shroud and cap cover for the PRC radiator...

Other than that, I'm working on remodeling the kitchen for my wife. :G-Dub: I guess she thought now would be a good time.

waynieZ 02-23-2016 07:26 PM

It looks good.

I was able to get away from the house project for a bit this weekend and I actually made some progress.

I finally got the Baer ReMaster installed, bent some new brakes lines, and bled the system (in case you're curious, that's a Ring Brothers clutch master on the firewall)

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...ps9atwrzwx.jpg

No pictures, but I finished installing the Vintage Air Gen IV system.

And the big accomplishment, I got the engine in!

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...psodcoyqyk.jpg

This afternoon I installed the flywheel and clutch. The plan this week is to get the trans in place and either get the engine harness in or start on the exhaust system...

Centerforce 03-08-2016 05:27 PM

All we can say is-wow GREAT work. You could eat off that engine bay.

What clutch/flywheel set up did you go with?

Thanks! The engine compartment was painted in 2000 and has suffered some chips and scratches over the years, but overall it still looks decent.

The clutch is one of your Dual Friction units. The flywheel is a McLeod that is .400 thicker to accommodate the standard Chevy bell housing. I also installed their extended length pilot bushing.

Last week I set the intake on the engine to check hood clearances but haven't gotten around to it yet.

We're glad to see our products be part of such a clean build. The DF is a perfect clutch for this type of application!

waynieZ 03-09-2016 09:55 AM

Nice progress Herb, keep at it!

WSSix 03-09-2016 10:16 AM

The engine looks good in there. Congrats, Herb!

The clutch was a no brainer! I've been pretty happy with Centerforce clutches over the years.

Hopefully by the end of March we'll be done with the house remodel and then I can get back to the Camino full time!

RPitts 03-10-2016 07:42 PM

I really like the front drive who's set up is that? Vintage air?

It's a Wegner Automotive system.

Yelcamino 03-14-2016 05:46 AM

On Friday I put Yelcamino on the ground for the first time. I think it has a nice stance.

Thanks! I'm not sure if I'll be done by May because the kitchen remodel is keeping me out of the shop! :censored:

I've got a few updates to share...

Almost done with the air intake tube. I just need to weld on the MAF bung and then have it powder coated. I also finished making all the AC and heater hoses.

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...psltdbqnol.jpg

I finished making the oil cooler and accusump lines (the zip ties are temporary until I get some actual hose separators).

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...psmszdt57d.jpg

The exhaust is done.

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...psv7kulgpd.jpg

And I figured out my radiator hoses. The upper hose is a Gates 22147 with 1" trimmed of the radiator end. The lower hose is a Gates 22437 with 1" trimmed off the radiator end and about 4.5" trimmed off the water pump end.

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...psrmse1mmi.jpg

I'm sure there's a bunch of things left to do that I can't think of at the moment, but the only big things now are the engine harness, AC harness, put the interior back together, and a dyno tune once it's up and running.

Air intake boot

Looking good Herb, is the boot for the air intake coming off the throttle body a 90 degree piece, what diameter, and who makes it. Thanks

waynieZ 04-04-2016 09:12 PM

It looks good Herb. Nice job.

Thanks! Yes it's a 90*, 4" diameter elbow from Spectre Performance through Summit.

Thanks Matt.

Hopefully before the end of the month I can fire it up!

Yelcamino 05-10-2016 06:43 PM

Following some wiring gremlins, I finally got the LS3 up and running! :excited:

No it's not stock. I have an acquaintance at Comp Cams that spec'd a custom grind for me. He said it's got their newest lobe profiles that aren't even in the catalog yet. I guess I'm special. :D

Bru 05-11-2016 10:14 AM

You are a lucky man.
I like that lumpy cam sound it has.

I like the rumpity rump sound too. A lot of the mild LS engines I've heard all sound too stock for a '60s car and the radical LS are too radical for this car.

MSTSFabbed 05-11-2016 10:49 AM

Nice! Man that sounds great. What mufflers are on there?

I still think your Chevelle is one of the best sounding cars I've ever heard.

Thanks! The mufflers are just a pair of 3" in/out Flowmaster Super 40s with a Pypes X cross over.

pro66tour 05-11-2016 05:37 PM

Thanks Herb, can't go wrong with flowmonsters! Sounds awesome...
