On January 4th he was hit head on by a driver going the wrong way down Interstate 295 in Jacksonville, Fla. He passed away on the 8th. His entire adult life was dedicated to helping others, from being a medic in Vietnam to running the tissue donor bank (he was returning from performing a case), he always had a good joke to tell and tried to help whenever possible. Life is short, make the best of it and if you're out drinking and having a good time.........think about this post and take a cab home.

so sorry to hear that. Life is short, and precious.

On another note, i just saw/noticed your build. Love it. the car, the lines, the color selections etc....cant' wait to see it done. Very nice!!1

Sorry to hear about your uncle. It's never easy and when it's something as irresponsible as a drunk driver it almost makes it worse.

The car is looking great and I'm sure they'd both be proud of what you've done.

Sorry to hear about your uncles passing. My cousin went with me to Nebraska to get my wife's project a few years ago. He passed away 6 months later. I will always remember the time spent on the road with him and the talks/fun we had during that trip.

His wife later told me he cherished the time and had a great time. I'm sure your uncle had a great time and enjoyed every minute spending it with you.

God bless you and your family!

Jay

Sorry to hear about your uncle. You're right, life is short. Too bad he did not have a chance to ride in the Mustang, which is turning out killer.

GregWeld 01-19-2016 07:26 AM

Very sorry to hear this sad news. Such a needless tragedy. I haven't had a drink for almost 32 years now... and I'm always the DD in our "group". As we've all aged - my friends are responsible enough now to start to drink water an hour or more before they know they're hitting the road. So there is "improvement" on drunk driving, just not enough.

Both our kids have our Uber account so they can use that when they need it - and I know they do use it!

Thank you everyone

Made my way to the interior shop today. Snapped some pics of the door. Coming together nicely.

My condolences on your Uncle. Sounds like a great guy.

Interior looks killer.

I"ve struggled with the doors on these cars, I can't use the aftermarket full door panels that are sold because the roll bar hits the extended arm rest, and its way down on the project list to build one myself, but the bare metal part of the door always bothered me - I never thought of just upholstering the metal directly and then using a somewhat standard inner panel, great stuff there.

But beyond that the panel looks positively Bentley-ish. Was never really sure how a speaker would fit in there either, that's pretty amazing.

Do you have a picture of the inner door metal before mounting the speaker baffle ? I"m curious how much of a hole you cut there.

BTW, I'm a big mobile audio guy, can you detail out your system for us ?

TY. I used to do 12 volt audio for a living back in the 90's. To answer your questions:

Not too big a hole. Just slightly bigger than the magnet. It sits about an eighth inch away from the window frame. I was going to use waveguides to begin with but went away from that because of space concerns and making it look right. So, I am running a JL C5 3-way setup in the front. It's a 6 1/2 in the door and a 4 in and tweeter in the kickpanel. They get ran off of a JL HD600/4 which I ended up bridging to two channels. The subs are JL 13TW5v2-2 13" shallow mount subwoofers. They get driven by a JL HD1200/1. I used a Pioneer headunit that's mounted in the trunk. I control it with the Crestron system and will mostly just bluetooth to it. I am signed up for the Goodguys show in April (Raleigh, NC) and hopefully it will be all done :).

preston 02-08-2016 09:37 PM

Sounds good.

Horns would look really cool and different and the EJS mini-horns would fit nice under the dash, but I put them in my truck and while the imaging is superb (especially compared to other options in a truck) I don't think they sound nearly as nice as the normal Hybrid Audio 3 way in my Cadillac. I"ve eq'ed the bright spots but they just don't have that soft smooth sound. Lots of other factors between the 2 vehicles but its like the difference between a tube and a solid state amp.

I really like what you've done with the interior, very inspiring for me.

crestronwizard 02-15-2016 01:06 PM

Seats in! Should be all done with the interior this week. Then install the front and back glass, headlights and front grille. Couple of other loose ends and all done! (for now)

Sorry to hear about your uncle passing....

That is one hell of an incredible build. The interior is ridiculously nice! I love seeing it being build in stages with the wood base progressing from there. That interior guy is pretty incredible.

Thanks. He is unreal. Said it was the most difficult car he's ever done (because of all the panels and working around the cage, etc). The car is way beyond what I had planned but hope to enjoy it.

curleysracecars 03-04-2016 06:49 PM

What wheels are those if you dont mind me asking? I notice two different offsets front to back. I am noticing that on the car I am building, the front wheels seem to have to have alot of backspace...otherwise the control arms get really short. Ive spent too many hours looking for wheels...lol
Great looking car! Keep it up.

Try2paz 03-05-2016 03:33 PM

beautiful car! The interior is simply amazing! enjoy it!

What are the details on your gauge setup? Is that a mini ipad?

They are from Rushforth Wheels. Jason Rushforth is great to work with.

Thanks. The Touchscreens are from Crestron. Automation systems is what I do for a living so I incorporated it into the build. I am going to do a write up once I finish everything.

The girls checking out the interior. They came along since I've been working on the project, lol.

Which headlights are you using ?

Let us know how you like them. Might be awhile before you actually drive it in the dark though !

Beautiful job on the car! The inspectors look happy.

They seem super bright. Loaded the car up in the dark to take for glass. Had to cut out about 3/8" on one side of the windshield. Tinting this week then installing. Hoping the flush glass turns out nice.

Thank you. They're mad at me right now because I haven't taken them on a ride. They enjoy the "monkey bars" though.

Parking lights complete. This was something that should not have been as much of a pita as it turned out to be.

Doing some detail work

Clamped the upper hoses. More on order for the other hoses

http://cdn-3-service.phanfare.com/im...f5790fb79479_1

Power Steering has been one of the top 5 PITA's of this build. When I started this build Turn-Key was the only option. They send a plastic reservoir and it just hasn't worked well. Got two of these nice metal ones in with -AN fittings. 1 for the mustang and 1 for the truck. Works way better.

Spent a lot of time this week getting the windows adjusted correctly. Note for any future builds, stick with factory doors.

Painted the headlight trims black. Feel it looks a lot better

You are using re-pop doors ?

I used a door from NPD (I think it was dynacorn) and it was actually very nice. Of course after splitting it in half and widening it 2", maybe tweaking things to fit the glass didn't seem like a big deal. But really, everything fit pretty good I was impressed with it.

I love how you can build these cars out of a catalog now.

Turns out the issue is the glass. None of the glass was correct.
