What year is it. My dad has a 996 that he NEVER drives. I drove it and while its nice balance wise, its not my '13 SS Camaro.

Flash68 01-18-2016 11:13 AM

Well, when it comes to the 996 there's a female version (NA - non turbo) and there's a male version (twin turbo).

That is all you need to know. :D

Very different cars, very different engines.....Mezger all the way!! From what i understand, the 9A1 (the engine in the 997.2) is the basis of the Mezger (non-turbo one that is)....

Congrats Mike. Creating memories with your family and involving a car is always a good thing.

One of the very few times a car looks better with black-centered wheels (in my opinion of course, I know it's a popular look). Love the look, great car!

Hey all, been a Porsche fan all my life and the day finally came to own one. After two years research, some saving, My C2S 997.2 is in my garage.

Got the car as a 49.75 (50th) birthday gift to myself, after years of hard work, putting three kids through college, rebuilding a business from the ground up (19 years) it was finally time.

I went from wanting to purchase a 911 whatever (996?993?964?911?977?) to a
996 (budget of 20 to 30k) to 997 40 to 50K, to a GTS to a GT3, back down to a C2s. Reason being, i have a race car, and while the GT3 is probably my ulitmate dream car, I wanted a driver. A car my wife and I could take to LA, tour in comfort (not too racy) and basically, a car i WANT to use, not worry about. The C2S as opposed to the GTS, it really came down to a Looks thing for me. When I was at the Porsche August event in Monteray, i realized my first Porsche love was the 74 RS Carrera. So this car will be close to that look.

Future mods include, the sport classic wheels, lowering it, the ducktail by Getty, and possibly the Carrera decal down the side.....

Very Nice! I've owned two "Real" '74 Carreras, one a RS. Getty makes very nice parts! For the Carrera Decal, find Joe Bob on the Pelican Forums. Are the New Fuchs Forged or Cast ( they are available in both)

my Carrera Clone built on a '84 Carrera

What a great experience you and you son must have had driving home.

Now you really have me wanting one of these so Friday after my CT scan I am going to go look at a 2012 Cayman R.

Good news Colonoscopy was clear and I am leaving work shortly for the CT Scan. So the local dealer has a Guards Red coming in July 13th and they are willing to knock a few dollars off if I put a deposit down now. Seriously thinking about it. But dang I really like the GT4. This is killing me slowly

Gotta live on the edge man...tell the dealer your max budget and then they'll just leave an R or GT4 or ??? in your driveway.

If you can afford the GT4 it's really not much of a question. Totally different league. Should hold its value much better as well.

I can but if I buy I need to sell one of my cars either the 2010 Camaro or the 70 as it will become a storage issue.

GregWeld 05-22-2016 08:27 PM

Just call SW and get one coming!

I know how we could bring this thread back is if I buy the car Mike or Steve could fly out there and drive it back with me.

No I figured one of them could split the fuel costs with me and the possible speeding tickets

fleet 05-23-2016 06:56 PM

So Mike Kelly and I stopped and looked at the local GT4 today and a Cayman R.

The "R" drove fantastic and I would have no problem handing my wife the keys.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...29e4731fae.jpg

And it even has provisions for a roof rack.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...a752c52e00.jpg

The GT4 ..... Dear God it's a freaking race car. Also one of the nicest cars I could ever imagine owning.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...90bfdaf12d.jpg

https://vimeo.com/168504789

If I bought the "R" I could pretty much daily drive it. Which would be awesome.

If I bought the GT4 I would have m honest to goodness dream car. That I would be terrified to drive.

So now I have no clue what the heck to do.

Oh then we saw this.

On a side not anyone want to buy a couple Camaro's ???

Marty-MJ

Vegas69 05-28-2016 09:36 PM

Porsche is on my radar down the road as well. Enjoy!!

glassman 05-28-2016 09:59 PM

I say keep the 70 and dd the GT4. Umm yeah.

How much over msrp is the GT4? if you can get it for msrp, its a no brainer.

The R is the best value imo. I would dd a Caymen in a New York minute....course i pretty much dd my C2S as is.

Either way the P-car IS a driving machine.

syborg tt 05-29-2016 03:56 AM

I could easily DD the "R" however the GT4 is inches from the ground. I would be seriously better off buying a GTS

Marty-MJ

Whatever you buy Marty, we know we won't ever have to post this...

Happy Memorial Day everybody!!!!

On an interesting note related to these German thingy's, In the 90' i read an article/commentary in Car & Driver and he wrote: "Ya wanna know why the Germans and Japanese are kicking our a$# at making cars, one word, NATO. Their best engineers can't go into defense contractors so their best went into transportation...."
I mostly agree with that statement. I also appreciate and honor this country and all its done for humanity. We are not perfect and made mistakes along the way, but WE ARE FREE :military: :flag2:

http://i1170.photobucket.com/albums/...DEB4DC09AD.jpg

GOD bless America!!!!!! Cheers y'all...
