Not everyone is a car builder. Some of us are chefs, IT guys, web developers, contractors, investors, etc. Just because you like hot rods does not mean that you have to build your own.
|
I just want to know the threshold of what's "built" lol? If I did the front suspension and brakes, some interior work (like dash panel, seats etc) and built the motor is that built? But I paid a shop when I ran out of "time" to install the engine/tranny and rear suspension? Wonder if I sourced and picked every single part and planned it? So I'm not sure which side I should take in this ...

IM an IT guy, I build some of it.. and a man needs to know his limitations :) I taught myself to weld, do some basic stuff, DSW firewall, small rust repairs, but my DSE quarlink and mini tubs I leave up to the pro's(cough cough vince) I do all my own wiring, all my own reassembly.. Im not sure.. where I stand.. I just know my limitations.. :)

I've built and bought. My built car I've had for 20 years and probably won't go anywhere until I'm gone. I've had a few cars built for me and i really don't enjoy them. My last bought car is my favourite car I've ever owned, i have it insured year round, i drive the piss out of it. I personally feel it's a silly argument. When someone says built not bought i wonder how they fit a machine shop and foundry in their garage. Do what makes you happy and don't worry what makes someone else and how your enjoyment is better than theirs.

I have always thought this as a stupid argument. Who really cares? I have never looked at a cool car and wondered if the guy built it or bought it. I just think, good for him for having a bad ass car.

Here we go with the name calling.:headscratch:

I think the arguement is passing of a bought car as a car you actually built. Nothing bothers me more than someone taking credit for someone elses creativity and skill. i built my car and have a very high respect for those who do and dont like those who pretend they do .

I ask him what auto tranny he's running and he says he doesn't know. Couple other guestions about the LS swap and he's clueless. Yeah right he built it? Another guy same day with a sweet Chevelle. I ask a couple question he says I don't know I bought it this way. I have more respect for guy #2 |
Where's Al when you need him to proclaim this thread as...
#TheGreatestInTheUniverse! I think I'll check back in :whenitsdone: |

I believe if you catch a later post he said he wanted to get some reactions. It is winter time, what else do we have to do but argue on the 'net? |
Keep it clean and civil, guys.

Now if we could just get Feedstore BBQ at every car event with you manning the BBQ....Hmmm...how do we make that happen? |
Hey since we're talking about BBQ, did you know you can attend a 1/2 day BBQ judging class and become a KCBS Certified BBQ Judge. Once you are a Certified BBQ judge then you can volunteer to judge KCBS BBQ competitions.
http://www.kcbs.us/ Free BBQ, what's not to like about that? |

The term "built" is simply meant to be the assembling of a car, the origin of the parts doesn't matter. And the origin of this phrase is from the JDM/Tuner crowd, and it's simply meant to be a way of a person who actually assembled their car to differentiate themselves from the people who buy already built/tuned cars and pretend to know everything about them despite really knowing nothing. Honestly I don't see why so many people (this discussion is common on all auto forums) get so offended by the phrase. |
