Guys, I can't thank you enough for starting this thread. I recently picked up a set of 243 heads for my ls1 chevy II. When the time comes to swap heads I am also planning on changing out the cam, doing a rocker trunnion upgrade, high volume oil pump ect at the same time. After reading this thread and many on ls1tech I decided to order a set of CHE trunnions at $200 shipped. Talked to Matt he was very helpful.

I would not recommend a high volume oil pump, just port the stock one and stick a .060-.070 thick washer under the bypass spring.

Really? I hadn't heard of this. I'll look into it for sure, thanks for the info.

The LS oil pumps cavitate above 6300 rpm which aerates the oil, using a high volume pump just accelerates that condition.

I have an blown up engine in the shop (we didn't build it) that I think died a slow death from all of the fairy dust being sent through it from the needle bearing upgrade. This engine had a mild performance cam with .600 lift, it had 12,500 miles on it.

Here's one of the trunion shafts out of the engine

That's exactly what I want to avoid.

Looks like the bushing has a spiral groove too.

The ones in pic are new, I was just showing what they look like.

Hi Tim any word on how they (CHE) are holding up? I just got a set for mine.

So far so good, the updated slip-fit design is even better imho. Fwiw we just took an engine up to 8,900 rpm on the dyno with them and they were fine.

Wow 8900 that must have sounded sweet. That's what I loved about my 69 z/28 shifting at 8500, I love to hear them sing!

Jr 05-15-2017 12:31 PM

Slip-fit? I didn't see it listed on straub's website.

The Straub bushings have to be pressed in. The CHE bushings are slip fit.

We did my rockers yesterday with the CHE trunnion kit.
It took no time at all to do the trunnion swap.

Is it worth doing the CHE kit on a new GM crate LS3 525?

If you plan to spend a lot of time at high rpm, I highly recommend it. The offset rocker arms also have an extra amount of taper to the tip. The trued tip is worthwhile investment, I think. Saves the guides. And if it has the hollow valves, I've heard reports that it also keep the valves from dropping.. but I can't verify that from our own engine program.
