So I've been playing with this car a little bit after work. Nothing too exciting but I did get the fuel filler mount cut out and I think a decent setup for it. I'll weld it up tomorrow and see if I like it or not.

Very impressive. Looking forward to more updates.

Looking good. Keep the pics coming

Thanks guys.
I had a busy weekend and didn't get to work on the car as much as I wanted to. I did get the harness hole filled in my firewall since I changed to Infinitybox setup instead. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_45.jpeg And I got the filler mount welded and ready for paint http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_43.jpeg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_44.jpeg Today I built a stand for my new grinder http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_46.jpeg Hopefully I'll be able to start making more progress on the regular now. |
So I didn't like how my fuel filler came out. It's not bad, but it could be better. So I scrapped it and started over. The thing that bothered me to most was not being able to get a perfect circle recess. I thought about it last night and had an idea on how to make a perfect circle. After work tonight I cut some scrap 1/4" plate and made a pivot point. I'll refine it later for infinite adjustment for up to 14" circles with a slot and a carriage bolt.
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...J/image_4.jpeg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...J/image_5.jpeg I'll update this again this weekend hopefully with the redesigned filler mount. |
That's using your noodle.
Maybe we need a " show me your home made tools " thread This would be a perfect opening act |
Thanks Frank, it worked better than I hoped for.
Part of fuel filler version 2.0 with a perfect circle that I'm really happy with. More work on it tomorrow to hopefully finish it up. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_47.jpeg |
While I really liked. Verion1, v. 2 looks even better

Started to do a little body mods to the rear tail panel this weekend, but I forgot to get pictures of it. I'll get some tomorrow if I have time to work on it. I did get the fuel filler mount done though so here is a few pictures of it.
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_49.jpeg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_48.jpeg Version 1.0 vs. 2.0 http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_50.jpeg |
Decided that some minor body mods were in need to make the car more my liking. Started by smoothing the body recess that's mostly hidden by the bumper. Waiting on a new bumper to show up to recess the bumper ends and make it fit a bit tighter to the body. Then the seems will be filled.
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_54.jpeg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_53.jpeg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_52.jpeg While I'm waiting on the bumper to show up I'm starting on flush mounting the windshield. Needs 1/4" filled around the top and 3/8" filled on each side to get it at 1/4" gap all the way around for a more modern weather strip figment. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_51.jpeg Hopefully more on this tomorrow evening. |
I didn't get as much done with the windshield as I wanted to, but the hardest part is fitted.
Sides tacked in. Bottom left long until I get my fenders so I can finish fitment. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_55.jpeg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_56.jpeg I forgot to get a picture of the driver side upper corner, but here is the passenger side tacked in. It doesn't look kill it because I moved the glass over after I tacked it. It's 1/4" all the way around. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_57.jpeg |
Looks great.
Make sure you buy a 2nd windshield as verify the fitment with the 2nd windshield. Just in case you damage the 1st glass. They all never seem to be the same. Marty-MJ |
So I've been working on the front glass still as I only get an hour or so a day to work on it. Things were going pretty good until my mig gun gave up the ghost yesterday and the new one won't be here till Monday.
So here is where I'm at. The whole outer frame is welded in and took forever as to not warp the metal. Here it is partially welded. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_64.jpeg All ground down http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_63.jpeg The new lip is started and welded on the driver side http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_61.jpeg The side ground down and the top in progress. This is when the mig gun gave up on me. This is three pieces in order to make the bend in the corner. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_60.jpeg Since I could weld I fitted the remainder of the lip so it's ready to weld in. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_59.jpeg To wrap things up my Ring Brothers door handles and trunk hinges showed up Monday. My carbon fiber parts from Anvil will hopefully be here this week too. It was shipped Friday after 11 months of waiting. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_65.jpeg |
I forgot, since I'm sans welder I started on the recesses to mount my Infinity boxes
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_66.jpeg |
So for the glass you filled in the side and top gap - did you add anything to the bed where the windshield sits ? How much depth is on those edges ? In other words if you lay the windshield down on the opening, how recessed is the glass from the edges in the "vertical" direction - ie how much padding will go under the glass where you glue it and if you do need any spacing there how will that be accomplished ?
although I don't know why I ask, I'm way past the point where I would ever be motivated to put in flush glass, I'm just curious ! |

I got lots done yesterday now that my new mig gun showed up.
I finished welding and grinding the window frame http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_70.jpeg Then I got the driver A pillar weatherstrip filler tacked then fully welded and ground smooth (smoothed out not pictured) http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_71.jpeg I plan on recessing my Infinity Box modules, so I started building boxes for the modules http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_68.jpeg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_69.jpeg My Anvil fenders will be here tomorrow, so I went ahead and assembled the car lol http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_72.jpeg |
Hurry up already!! It's looking great!
|
Now that is a cool picture.

Thanks guys. I've got more parts on order and making good progress on it. I'm really looking forward to getting this car done and driving it.

Do you mind sharing what tools/abrasives you are using for cleaning up all of those welds? You're stuff looks fantastic. Especially all of those inside corners like the window frame.
Car is looking great. This is a fun project to watch. |

On the large flat areas I'm using 60 grit flap disk on a 4" air grinder to get it close as it takes off a lot of metal fast. The tight corners I'm using a carbide burr bit in a straight die grinder then a sandpaper roll on a angle die grinder. The straight inside angle parts I'm just using a 3" cut off wheel to rough grind everything. To smooth the rough grinds down I'm using 36 grit down to 60 grit 3" roloc disks on a 2" arbor to get the disk to flex enough to get the corners smooth. Once everything is good to go I finish it all off with 80 grit on a DA. |
Thanks for the info AJ it will help. The car is looking nice.
|
I love this build. Do you have the inner fender extensions? I have the same fenders and inner fenders but I have no idea how to go about installing the extensions.

The good news is I called Anvil and they told be the secret to bolting the extensions in. The bad news is you have to cut the inner fenders then bolt, rivet, bond, or fiberglass the extensions to the inner fender. I did get the carbon fenders bolted up real quick. They are going to need some work it get fit right, but they look fairly close for a starting point. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_73.jpeg |
How long did it take from the order date to get your fenders

We've been slow at work so I've been playing with the Camaro. So far I've finished both roof/A pillar transitions, built another recess box for my InfinityBox module, and started on my rear bumper mounting and modding. Now to the pics
Driver side is the same http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_76.jpeg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_74.jpeg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_75.jpeg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_77.jpeg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_79.jpeg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_78.jpeg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_80.jpeg |
I've been working on this rear bumper trying to get it how I want it. I'm close now, just needs a few tweaks on the driver side then I'll be happy. I wasn't too concerned with getting the metal work perfect as I'm going to make a mold from this and do it in carbon fiber.
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_89.jpeg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_83.jpeg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_82.jpeg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_88.jpeg I also got my holes cut to mount the hood vents http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_87.jpeg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_90.jpeg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_86.jpeg And I got part of my tail lamp housing from the 3D printer http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_81.jpeg |
Are those hood vents from anvil?
Car looks good. |

Just a quick update. I've been working on the body work aspect of the bumper as I want it as perfect as I can get it to make a mold from. Now that I have it really close I started with the fill pockets with tape patterns then marking where I want the body line.
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_91.jpeg The driver side looked to be the harder side to do because I cut a little more than I meant to, we all make McSteaks. Just a little more welding to do, but it's slow as to not warp any metal. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_92.jpeg |
I finished up the driver side bumper recess today. I'm pretty happy with it, but it's not perfect.
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_93.jpeg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_94.jpeg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_96.jpeg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_95.jpeg |
Very nice and tasteful modifications. I'm digging how this project is coming together!

I got a lot done Friday night. Finished the right bumper recess then moved onto other tasks. I cut the seams for both quarters to tail panel then hammer and dollied the area to fit better then it was. After I was happy with the fitment I welded the seams for a cleaner look. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_98.jpeg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_97.jpeg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...image_100.jpeg I also filled the factory emblem holes then hammer and dollied the area and metal finished it. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8.../image_99.jpeg Saturday I wasn't feeling like working on the car, but I got the Ring Brothers trunk hinges mounted so I could start fitting the deck lit to fix the gaps. Sorry, I forgot to get a picture. I also added some safety to the car in the form of a C6 3rd brake lamp. Lots of measuring, remeasuring, cutting, hand filing, and hand sanding. I'm pretty happy with how it came out though. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...image_101.jpeg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...image_102.jpeg |
