Last side done, Im gonna fabricate new coilover-mounts in thicker steel and more fun design.

Anybody got any ideas on how to reinforce upper crossmember?

Check out page 2 and 3 of my build thread, link is in my sig. Lots of chassis pictures. I've tried to post pics, but the site won't let me without resizing, and I have no clue how to do that.
I built a new rear shock crossmember, and I diagonally braced it to the factory crossmember, thus adding strength to both my new crossmember, and the factory one. I "coped" all of my tubing into my frame, meaning I used a hole saw to cut a hole into the frame, so that I'm not simply relying on just a weld to hold this all together.
Realize that what restricts us on these cars from running a big tire in the rear, is the factory lower shock mounts, at the axle housing. The rear shocks point out toward the tire at a steep angle, and end up close to the sidewall of the tire. You have to change this. Move the lower mounting point inward on the axle a good piece. This is why I totally redisgned my rear shock mounts. I needed the correct shock angles, and wanted to run a wide tire at the same time. Not sure about your wheel wells, but the 68-72 cars have over 14" of tire room, from the fender trim over to the inner wheel well. I would think that yours is close to that, and now with your frame mods, and your inner wheel house modded, you will have enough room for a lot more tire than me.
Keep up the nice work!

Havent been any progress on the car in a while.
Bought an old squarebody truck that is taking some time to get running.

Got some work done today on the motor though.
Built a TDC pointer and installed the last head.
Pushrods are measured and ordered.

This became my solution to reinforce the upper mounts.

Started to remove undercoating today, half body done.
Found some bad repairs in the trunkfloor that has to be repaired.

Gonna keep grinding tomorrow.

Waiting for pushrods from Manton for the motor.

Loving the car so far but what are the specs on the car when you started, suspension and tire size?

warhawkchevelle 05-28-2017 12:06 PM

Oh Im sorry. I have missed your question.
It was stock suspension with cut springs.
18/20" rims staggered. 275 in the rear, 235 in the front. Dont recall BS though.

Well, it has been some progress.
Been real busy at work plus the dragracing season has started now.

I have ordered the speedtech tracktime kit for the car with chicane coilover conversion to the front. Plus forged spindles.
It should arrive here in Sweden in 5-6 weeks.

Sold My Holley Dominator EFI and bought a Fueltech FT500, My local tuner works alot on these so It made sense. Plus I like the concept with ECU and dash incorporated.

I have cut out one tub, but cut a little too much so had to make some repairs.

Well, here are some pictures. :)

Seam-welding the frame completely.

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...6A79548F76.jpg

Testfitted the frame with alu bodymounts, fits good.

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...6966AC999A.jpg

Will build a new rear crossmember with a trailer hitch.

I have also ordered Baer brakes 14” with 6 piston calipers around.
Moser alu thirdmember with 4:11 and wavetrack differential.
Ron Davis radiator.

Hoping to receive suspensionparts before christmas vacation so I can finish frame modifications.

Will be better to update if someone is interested 😁

Nice work!

warhawkchevelle 12-15-2017 11:40 PM

Well, it doesnt look like I am receiving suspension parts in time for Christmas.
Speedtech delivered those parts in June I think, a Buddy of mine who ships container fell ill. So I told him to focus on health.

Found another shipper a while back which took over, but when you ship by boat it can easily get delayed.

Been superbusy at work, I install sprinklersystems and it has been total chaos last six months. So I am away from home and garage monday to thursdays, fridays I work at my dads mechanical industry so not much time over.

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...2B2BA40153.jpg

I atleast cut off rear crossmember yesterday.

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...2D74E0B4AD.jpg

Cut some 3mm steel and bent them for a new 50x80mm rear crossmember.
We have a small version of dragweek here in Sweden called streetweek so I really need that hitch plus I like to go on caravan-trips :)

Che70velle 12-16-2017 08:52 AM

That’s awesome! How much time do you have til StreetWeek?

warhawkchevelle 12-25-2017 10:22 AM

Made some templates for new upper brackets today and got them sent out for cutting in thicker steel.

Added a piece of tubing between rear shock mounts and mounted it in the rotisserie. Going to see my painter tomorrow and see if he has time for it soon.

Been crazy busy at work a couple of months but one more week before 3 weeks vacation, would be nice to have it painted before then so I could do some assembly during vacation.

Going Racing in 3 weeks again with our Top Doorslammer 65 Chevelle. Ran a 3.84 on the 1/8 last year. Goal is to set a 3.7X this year.

Slow progress but always something

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...05271B4824.jpg

Got some brackets tig welded on the axle housing, and now its at the painter.

Hopefully I can leave my frame tomorrow also.
It is finished for paint but his shop was packed earlier this week.

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...1237C3A18A.jpg

Mounted my RXT twindisc clutch on motor and hydraulic throw out bearing on the tranny. The gap was within specs so I could bolt them together finally.

Hopefully the painter want take so long on the chassis so I can get it back next week and start assemble.

Gotta order fuel-lines also, gonna go AN-10 hardline to front tank and AN-8 return line. Will get the front fuel tank built when supercharger is fitted.
Got a belt driven pump on motor, will feed it from a AN-16 line from front tank.

Any recommendations at a good dealer for US Mags?
Looking to buy a set of wheels soon.
