To catch everyone up. Wed nite Southwest lost Dave's bag so we stuck around in Birmingham at Carrigans Public House Gastropub and hung out until 10 when the next possible flight with his bag might show up. It did and we hit the road to Jackson MS.

We got in around 2 am and found a room to catch some shuteye.

We got a late start today but made it to Deep South Pops for some local pops & nitro cold brew.

Of course along the way we stopped and picture opportunities always arose.

Of course we had to stop at the AL Capitol building and take the glamour shot.

Right now we still have a few mile ahead of us this evening. :RunninDog:

Nice score, Dave! Great fuel mileage too given the age.

Reverse psychology, I love it.

You're a good man Dave, priorities on point. Have fun in Austin, sounds like a good kind of trouble will be had.

We left Jackson 15 hours ago and now the day ends with some Maple Bacon & Rum doughnuts from a doughnut truck on Rainey street in Austin.

It got ugly from there.

Cool grocery getter, buddy!

What't the old saying about you can have two out of three but you can't get all three..... in his case -- only one of the above applies.

fleet 01-13-2017 09:17 AM

As a yout', I went with the folks to the Shivy dealership in '63 as they looked at one of these. 6 cyl, three-on-a tree and 3rd row seat.

For some reason they chose it over the split-window Vette that our family of 4 boys really needed.

:confused59:

DBasher 01-13-2017 09:27 AM

Couple questions..
4 link in the back with bags?
Is it normal to drink beer in a wine glass?

rustomatic 01-13-2017 10:49 AM

Funny glass = awesome beer.

I went car shopping with my Mom once. She was looking at a '72 Mercury Capri - I wanted her to buy the Pantera!

Haha...young gearheads know things. ;)

FETorino 01-13-2017 04:01 PM

When roadtripping the USA you should try to check out the capitol buildings of our great states.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...pskpktror3.jpg

We were being respectful but it seems we just can't get along with the law outside of CA.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...pss7crlpbk.jpg

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...psmjewawit.jpg

What the hell, you boys gotta get out of here!

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...psxv1aejzw.jpg

On the run from the law we headed a little outside of town to check out the Pennybacker bridge.

FETorino 01-13-2017 04:28 PM

Who knows maybe the Capitol police officer sensed we were all hopped up on caffeine from our morning excursion.

Vintage Heart on 7th street serves some good cold brew and the local version of a Bullet Coffee

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...psfi5roiak.jpg

Where is Waldo?

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...psqnyg6ns0.jpg

Oh yea, up the hill by the Texas national cemetery.

Dave will post up the lost time from noon at the bridge until we left Austin around 3:15.

Next stop Marfa TX

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...ps641geuvw.png

We did get the FM transmitter from Radio Shack dialed in so we have some roadtrip music via a circa 2006 NANO.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...psd4c5wibf.jpg

FETorino 01-13-2017 10:04 PM

Has anyone been to Marfa?

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...ps06aogz1u.jpg

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...psctgmctjw.jpg

I'm not sure how to explain it.

Currently

Deluxe accomadations.

Flash68 01-13-2017 11:49 PM

We enjoyed our time in Austin and had good coffee, grub and beer (not that in that order necessarily).

One of the best brisket concoctions I have ever tasted. Seriously. The brisket Frito Pie.

http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...psjp6aj35x.jpg

http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...sdqxhfxyn.jpeg

We nearly lost Rob.

http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...psagk2ijxg.jpg

We met up with the a Lat-G'er and an aspiring Lat-G'er for this winning lunch

Flash68 01-13-2017 11:55 PM

And yeah... Marfa.... I saw this story on it 60 minutes a couple years ago and was glad Gerno reminded me about it. It has not disappointed so far.. although we really don't know what we are dealing with here yet. Maybe some clarity will present itself tomorrow when we head back into town.

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/marfa-te...ss-04-08-2013/

Based on a few looks I got I don't think my artistic shirt was thought too highly of in these parts.

http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...pslpceqd5t.jpg

I had numerous flashbacks of the movie Natural Born Killers driving on some of these desolate back roads and thru the small towns. This hotel seemed to fit.

http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...ps8zvoxzzt.jpg

And probably my favorite shot of the car so far. :flag2:
