Not sure how we got to Richard Petty but here's my story.
While driving home to CT from FL in my 70 Firebird I stopped to check out the Petty Museum (the old one). It was AM of a weekday and I was the only one there. I heard a very loud unusual sounding engine start up and started looking out the windows over at the race shop area to see what it was. Lady in charge of the museum said "That's Richards truck, you're welcome to go out to the driveway and say hi when he goes by and then come back in." So I did.

He was driving a black Dodge pickup with the V-10. Short intros and a couple minute chit chat then he was off. He liked the bird (only car in the lot so he knew it was probably mine). Upon returning to the museum the lady said they modified the truck so it'd be really loud so he could hear it because his hearing was shot from race cars. Had huge 4-5" pipes on it.

I work for Chevy (GM) at Barrett-Jackson doing the Demo rides, so I'm there about every year!

When I arrive I go straight to the Chevy rides. Hit a cone in the Camaro then went for the hot lap Z-06 ride. Makes my Firebird seem soooo slow! ahahaha

Driver does a nice job deconstructing the 959 while moderately taking it around a track.

Reportedly Porsche lost £200K on each one built.

SLC's (1972-1981)

"In September 1977 the 450 SLC 5.0 joined the line. This was a homologation version of the big coupé, featuring a new all-aluminum five-liter V8, aluminum alloy bonnet and boot-lid, and a black rubber rear spoiler, along with a small front-lip spoiler. The 450SLC 5.0 was produced in order to homologate the SLC for the 1978 World Rally Championship.

Starting in 1980, the 350, 450 and 450 SLC 5.0 models (like the 350 and 450 SL) were discontinued in 1980 with the introduction of the 380 and 500 SLC in March 1980. At the same time, the cars received a very mild makeover; the 3-speed automatic was replaced by a four-speed unit."

Brian Redman vid at Laguna Seca. He won the 24 hr Daytona and 12 hour Sebring in it. He mentioned how the 3.5L inline 6 made 430hp at 9K.
