Looking good Ben!
|
Thanks Wayne!
Here's a mock up of the static ride height on coilovers at ideal height for racing geometry. We're thinking to go another 1" drop in the front since this particular truck likely won't see much racing. At this height he'll still have full suspension travel and zero worries about frame ground clearance being too little; and no old school cutting of the floor to channel the frame either. Rolling on his 305 mm front tires it'll still clear 30 deg of steering angle too. Wicked! https://i.imgur.com/sxroqIz.jpg https://i.imgur.com/36tdEMS.jpg https://i.imgur.com/uMGJZF2.jpg |
Stance is on point.

A couple more shots of the custom sheet metal work and the LED taillight cutouts. Coming up on the to do list: final body work and chassis assembly gets started. Stay tuned!

First stages of the push button gas cap cover mod...
https://i.imgur.com/T89JSDw.jpg https://i.imgur.com/YaTMlml.jpg |
Moving into the door mods we're installing one piece glass to eliminate the wing windows and part of the process is filling the gap where the wing window frame was. Once the door was gutted we found it to be quite flimsy, so while we were fixing up this top area we built some support structure inside each door. We're also using Kindigit flush door handles and got the inner structures TIG welded in. Just a little more sheet metal work left and then on to finish body work.

The cab is getting close to starting the finish body work, meanwhile the bed has been hammered and dollied and had a slight skim coat of metal glaze run over the surface, and then is sanded to perfection. The bed is almost done, and the next step will be to bed line the underside.

Body work is rolling along, the bed and fenders are done with smoothing the panels and are in epoxy awaiting primer and block sanding, while the cab is now in the body booth. Final paint and assembly is starting to appear as a light at the end of the tunnel, and we're all excited to see things progressing towards that.

very nice!

This is looking very good. Nice work.

Thanks fellas!
Even though this was a new fender it still takes some effort to get that sheetmetal perfectly straight. A skim coat and block sanding does the trick and will help accentuate the truck's flowing lines and BMW blue hue. Door handle pockets for the Kindigit flush handles are near finished too. https://i.imgur.com/pILdLpS.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Aiq5wxx.jpg https://i.imgur.com/uSp2DRS.jpg |
Metal straightening and main body work is complete, a coat of epoxy primer has been laid down and the fine body work commences!

While block sanding moves along Bob did a quick spray out of the colors on the old hood. You can see the charcoal gray at the bottom and then a few shades of BMW blue paint hues. Which shade appeals to you?

Coming along nicely. I like the darker shade personally.

Thanks for the input! At this point Bentley is still undecided so this might turn into a surprise reveal later on.
Here's a cool bit of custom work- what do you do when you lack a decent headliner? Of course there are several methods for this issue but we wanted this interior with it's late model Mustang cues to have that same level of smoothness and refinement to the headliner and other interior panels. The solution we have going on here is flip the truck upside down, fill the roof cavity with a special foam, shape the foam and fiberglass over it, and then add a thin skimcoat of metal glaze to smooth and even it all out. This will be wrapped in leather and then trim pieces will be made to finish off the edges. More details coming in here and underneath the cab, stay tuned! https://i.imgur.com/ayWbQV7.jpg https://i.imgur.com/KwqUyQT.jpg |
Nice! I like the darker blue towards the front of the hood.

While the cab was in the body work booth getting final sanding and the bottom bed lined the back half of the truck was in the paint booth making the transition from busted up to BMW blue and beautiful. As usual Bob laid down some sweet hue which after curing will get buffed to a glass-like finish. To be continued...

Maaaaan....I love me some blue. Just about any shade of it too.
|
That is a killer shade of blue!
|
Awesome color!
|
Thanks fellas!
"Hey, hey we're jammin'" ... and sprayin' ... Laying down the base coat on the cab and you can't help but think this blue shade even looks nice in satin too, right? https://i.imgur.com/nYvij8n.jpg https://i.imgur.com/7wnmOt2.jpg |
This going to be a killer driving truck . I like the color . Like flush mount glass. Also like the stance

Paint is all done. chassis is all powdercoated, next step is final assembly. we will have is all semi assembled in the next week or so and sitting on the wheels hopefully in 2 weeks this will look amazing at ride height!!
I am really excited to see this one. A little back ground, the FIRST vehicle I purchased with my own money (I was washing cars at the local ford dealer for 2.25/hour) was a 53 F100, I started building a hot rod it has a 350 olds engine in it and i built some drop spindles i media blasted it and actually got it running and sitting on the wheels before i abandoned it. that was a couple years ago lol, so it will be really cool to see this one done. |
My second "car" was a '56 F-100 == dark blue bottom - white top - 6 cylinder 3 speed column...... with Uniroyal Tiger Paws..... LOL
Was a great truck -- just add 2 or 3 quarts of oil daily. I towed SEARCH LIGHTS with it -- 60" carbon arc lights -- and I think I made about $1.75 an hour at the time. |
Great stories!
Initial mock up of body panels on the F100. Hmmm, maybe 2 tone isn't necessary after all? https://i.imgur.com/rrUKiP1.jpg https://i.imgur.com/EoGea8U.jpg |
That is going to be one gorgeous truck!
