I go out of my way to avoid doing biz with people like that. If your word isn't worth anything then what is? If he did not have permision to make deals for his wifes car it is un ethical and un honest of him to strike up deals without saying he needs to check with his wife. Simple as that.

A few points then I'll get off.

If it truly is the wifes car then her name and cell should have been the contact number, not Heath's.

Is it really worth your integrity for a couple grand at best.

He should not have been talking about a very specific deal with SW if he intended to let the bidding take place first, especially when SW had someone look at the car beforehand.

Pure greed, nothing else. Funny thing is SW's deal is more than it will fetch on ebay, oh well bad decisions are made everyday. Peace out, next.

Exactly, integrity is everything!! I have to say I was fortunate when I had the 57 for sale at SEMA. I had mulitple people interested, but nobody stepped up at the show. I made a "Gentleman's agreement" over the phone with a guy in Indy after SEMA. No money had exchanged hands at this point. I then had later that week willing to kick me more $$. I told him I'm not wired like that. If the deal falls through, I'll call him, But for now consider it sold.

I guess I have a conscience and like to sleep at night!!

Well, you have to know that "IF" the wife really nixed the hubby;s deal, there has to be some special satisfaction in knowing there was probably some "spirited" conversation in that house!

I am selling Kona....this type of auction interference can get a seller banned on eBay. It is called auction interference. I do not do "Private" auctions. but I may start after things like this.

As far as the deal in question....you said you looked at it for 2 months...plenty of time to make a decision IMO. I always let eBay work, and sometimes I will sell a car early, BUT, the complete payment is in hand BEFORE an auction is cancelled.

eBay forces a buyer to make a decision. Why didn't you just bid on it like everyone else?

70, sometimes deals take 2 months - especially if both parties are still talking. If the owner sais " let me know next week" and you make an offer 2 months later - that don't fly. But when both parties are negotiating it might take that long. He didn't have a line of buyers during that time anyway or it would have been sold, ya think.

First off, you know nothing about what transpired between me and Heath for two months. If you can read, MY point was that we had a deal and then we didn't. E-bay doesn't force me the do jack s.. Why should I bid on something I thought I already owned? Money is not the issue here, principal is.

Same deal.. on my Ranger truck. Had a guy come look at it for his daughter. He liked it and we made a deal. He asked if I wanted a deposit (was going to come back 4 days later to pick it up). I said no, his word was good enough. During the 4 days I litterally had 6 calls from people that wanted the truck. I realised I had it listed too cheap and could get more, but I told all the people it was sold and to call back Sunday in case the guy fell through.

Sure it was only a matter of a few hundred bucks but when I give my word it's a done deal.

This deal just sounded like mis-communication, which is a shame. Hope it works out for all parties.

First of all....I have been on your side of the stick probably ten times in the last year. This stuff happens you move on. I have "made deals" only to have the seller use my number to pimp a local buyer in giving more. you can argue principle all you want but at some point you just move on and find another car. Bickering back and forth on a forum, serves no purpose other than to point fingers and flame people..etc.

And I disagree, about eBay....if you bid, it is a legal contract between buyer and seller.

Getting pissy with outside parties who don't agree with your position does nothing but undermine your position.

Yes I do know how a two month deal goes....for me it was on a six figure car that ended up costing me and extra $25,000!!! Because of some wanna be broker psuedo dealer who couldn't have bought the car anyway.
