here we go again
So ... well that just opened up a big can pf worms cause now other sh$%$#! just wont do.
New suspension New rebuilt GM 5 Speed NV4500 (found another one) New 84 Toyota split case (found another one) New Dakota Digital dash New saginaw steering setup Oh boy, and whats ridiculous is I was going to sell this one and now I'm at a total loss on which one I'm going to keep Anyway, one of these will be sold and either way both are going to be awesome and completely different I'll make this thread into a double 40 build now cause some of you may be interested in this Diesel build Cheers Steve |
Nice! That's going to be an awesome drivetrain in a FJ. It had crossed my mind on our build, but after the TDi fiasco and dealing with our A7, I dare not mention diesel around here for a while...
Jeff- |
Steve we are here for you ...we love you and, need you to realize you have a problem...
btw bought me a brand new Silverado which could use a hwy run ...hint hint lol |
OH NO something else for you to have done before me.
|
Steve, I LOVE the diesel idea. I think that would make the fj so much more fun to drive, and that’s a GREAT price on that Cummins crate kit with all of those extras!
|
WOW! That one you rebuilt 6 years is really nice. Would love to have that. Can't wait to see the progress on both of them.

Thanks everyone ... Update Finally after 2 months I was able to order the wheels last night, they sell out fast Waiting to hear from Cummins about the motor delivery Custom rear seat arrived Hope to get started soon Scott, hope everything arrived without issue ? Steve |
Been a while since I've read the updates and now there's a diesel build going on lol. Badass, keep the project juices flowing. Im digging that cummins setup
|
It's funny how these hobbies intermix.
I've done quite a few 4x4's... currently building my daughter a Jeep YJ, with Dana 60's, a hopped up L33, paddle shifted built 4L60E and a Dana 300 with stuff. Stretching the wheel base and painting it Orange like Momma's CJ7. That also has stuff ;). |

You have more discipline than I do Steve. I would have been looking in the crate while it was still on the forks!

You know this build is gonna be good!
Steve, finally built my own console. Somewhat based on the one you had in the '69, but not quite as fancy. I like it better than the old one I had though.. Thanks for the inspiration! |
Steve you may need the dollies you left at my place i still have them

So you're gonna get two 40s done before I can even get mine out of upholstery jail... ouch.
|
Beautiful wheels! It must be so nice to get most of the parts before they're needed. I love these FJ's
|

Update on the rest
Ok, back to the 73' LS
Down to bare chassis http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...psyowtbtgm.jpg Full tear down of diffs, all new seals/bearings on the way ... including some 'nice' new brakes. Everything is getting sand blasted and base/cleared black http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...psgn97stpr.jpg Doing a 60/80 series Box conversion ... supposedly give the best driving/steering feel http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...psmc4bek18.jpg Tore down the NV4500 for a full rebuild and repaint http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...psrkaasnjn.jpg |
I figured the motor weight would be close, but I didn't think the new one would be lighter. Seeing the HP/TQ on the 2F it's amazing the power the Land Cruiser has. My 72 with almost 200,000 on it could tear down buildings, the snow would be rolling over the hood and it kept going.
The steering on the newer ones like your were much improver over the early one after they removed the steering pivot point on the front frame. Is it a leather gasket on the front steering knuckle on the diff? Both are going to be great builds. |
this is going to be one sweet FJ! watching this one for sure!:popcorn2:
|
I absolutely love this build !!
Keep the pics coming. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Sheck44 I can't believe you waited more than a month to open that crate! I realize you said it initially wasn't at your place but crate engines don't show up for me every day. I would have had greasy paw prints and drool all over it from day one even if I had to leave work early to do it!
You have far more self control than I do. Do fresh chocolate chip cookies go bad at your house too? :mock: |

Ok, off to Buffalo tomorrow to pick up all the Axel/diff parts and some other cool stuff. We should have a roller then in no time at which point we can install the drivetrain Pics coming Steve |
