Been there done that with the Motor in my car also.

I had it built by a very reputable Engine builder (withholding the name is hard) and let's just say they "F" everything up that they could. From missing the timing chain tensioner, valley cover bolts finger tight, intake manifold bolts loose, head bolts so tight we needed a breaker bar to remove them, and I won't even talk about the main bearings. In the end I had to completely redo the motor including all of the bearings. I had asked them to change the cam bearings and those were also not done.

I have to ask.... Why not share the name? Seems that might help others.

The guy was let go and about the time I was suppose to be sending my motor back his father passed away. In the end I took care of it locally and now I know everything has been corrected. If you look in my build thread you will be able to find out who built the motor way back in 2012.

I haven't been doing much on the '33 but finally got back on it and got the rear end all buttoned up. Had Ridetech make me some upper and lower arms with "R" joints, BMR housing swivel bushings, cleaned and painted the calipers, new rotors and pads and all that's left is to bleed the system.

Looking good and I understand trying to make time to work on these projects is sometimes very difficult.

Got the kids out of detention yesterday so now to get them reattached and back in the chassis. Both were new rebuilt E-bay purchases by the previous owner and came with the car. Both needed rebuilt. Trans guy found a bad bearing, bad bushing, bad pump housing. Had him install a TCI constant pressure valve body while he was in there and I got a Boss Hog 3200-3500 converter for it. Engine had bad valve guides and bent valves, sloppy main caps and a lot of crud in the oil galleries. Almost $4500 later, it's all done and done right this time.

I always try to test fit things before getting in too deep, just like i'm sure a lot of you do. I previously mentioned "When cranking it sounds like the starter and flywheel and torque converter don't like each other." Well, it seems the flex plate and converter bolts don't exactly line up just right and he must have forced the bolts to go in creating a somewhat slight off center flex plate/torque converter alignment and it seems the flex plate is a little warped. I was really hoping to have all this back together and in the chassis this weekend but looks like i'll be waiting on a new flex plate.

I received the ATI flex plate and had the same issue. Called the Torque converter company and their answer was to drill the flex plate holes slightly larger... called ATI and their answer was drill the flex plate holes a little larger.. Sooooooooo, 1/32" was all it took. Drilled each hole equally on a drill press in 1/64th increments keeping everything in alignment. The holes were exactly 29/64" and ended up 31/64"
Made a little progress, hopefully back in the chassis this weekend.

It's been a little while and just messing with it little at a time. Pulled the engine and trans again to get better access to the firewall and trans tunnel.
used a lot of elbow grease and mothers aluminum polish and tried for a mirror finish then coated with Sharkhide.

Put the engine and trans back in, cut and welded flanges on the new Borlas then wrapped them with DEI Form-a-shield to hopefully reduce the amount of heat coming up through the floors.

Added a small panel to hold a bus bar, vintage air relays and circuit breaker. Bus bar gave me a great place to connect the vintage air and the Micro steering. Plus a stud for common ground.

Had to cut that top center section of the trans tunnel to fit the recess, Settled on a shifter location, riv nuts through the fiberglass seemed ok but added some reinforcement to the backside just to be safe.

Sucks about the sideways pics, not sure how to correct that

thedugan 12-26-2023 01:37 PM

Sideways pics happen to the best of us.

I had so many questions about the random taxidermy that I didn't notice the photo was sideways. 😆

With Apple products if you take the pic in portrait mode they will post sideways. If you take pics in landscape the issue is gone.

It's coming together nicely and looking good!

Looking forward to seeing how the center console turns out.

68454RS 03-04-2024 06:43 AM

First time under it's own power. Ended up putting 10 miles on it around the neighborhood and we didn't die.

camcojb 03-04-2024 08:48 AM

That's a GREAT first drive, if it comes back under it's own power and no major issues.

syborg tt 03-04-2024 09:42 AM

I am so envious and I can't wait to drive mine.

God willing it will be this spring.

The center console is coming along.. we are now out of cardboard stage and using 1/4" plywood to see how it all comes together as a rigid assembly
