'Love those install pics! (but it makes me think i'm not as ''scareless'' as when i was young (now 33!)...Now to think i'm gonna strip my car 'only' to that level scare the $h!t out of me not knowing when i'll drive it again. I'm getting to think i should still pile up some stuff and do it all at once like you are. That way i'd keep on enjoying it...but you know how it is, you touch one thing and the next thing you know its all apart!

Anyway, looking good Tracy!

tracy 11-06-2006 02:57 PM

My wheels arrived and they are spectacular!!

I am very pleased!! Forgeline makes beautiful products.

I also want to extend a HUGE thanks to Frank Serafine and Prodigy Customs for hooking me up with these awesome Forgelines. They shipped when Frank said they would and they exceeded my expectations!!

Now I have to choose rubber. I was dissapointed to find out that the the BF Goodrich G-Force KDW2 tires are not actually available in 335s as their web site indicates....

I know the chrome ZX3Ps on jagarangs Firebird got killer reviews at SEMA. Titanium would be just wicked. Did you ever get the specs to Forgeline?
Just let me now when it is time Lead.

Leadfoot1 11-06-2006 08:58 PM

Hey Frank,

Yes, i sent Forgeline the C6 calipers specs tonight because i need the wheels to check the spacing....Hopefully they'll be willing to help.

I was/ am undecided on the size because of those darn 345's i cant get fit easily. To do the job, i need to change suspension set up from leaf to either Q-Link or Air bar (3000$)...then i can fit 13" rim. Then, i need the wheels,(5500$) of course i need brakes too...(3000$) + i need to tub the thing and do the frame connectors etc Oh and cut the housing + new axles (1500$) to use 5 inches of BS.......Did i mention the front suspension?

See, this is a budget exercise. I can't spend 15k at once. i have the dough for the tires and rims and could stretch for the brakes...but what good if i can't put the wheels on?(rear) Then, i could also do the suspension and do the tires next year (Yeah right). Or, i coud sell my 345's and run 20 x 10 and 295's instead...that way i could do everything because wheels are 500$ apiece instead of 1500$ea (Me = Canadian money, don't forget....) but now that i have the 345's you think im into this? NO.

If i could skip the suspension clearance issue it could be done faster. (Tire clearance to the leaf spring) especially since i have a set of bran new offset shackles in their box.

Ha, anyway...I'll stop whining and get back to calculations...I'll find a way. I alway' do!

You guy's have a tought for my dog tonight ok. I just came back from the emergency clinic. He drank water too fast tonight and flipped his stomach. It was a risky and costly (5k+) operation and we left him there. My wife stayed with him, i couldn't, i did with our last dog and still remember the pain. He was a 5 year old 140 pound all Muscle Doberman. The hardest thing is i told my (oldest) 4 year old little girl when i left tonight that i was gonna bring her dog back in the morning....I don't really look forward to breakfast...

Lead, I am really sorry to hear about your dog. Hopefully he will be ok..I have a house full of them myself.

As for the car, it seems like you save yourself lots of trouble and expense by "settling" for 335's

ProdigyCustoms 11-06-2006 11:50 PM

I feel you pain Lead, we have two dogs, and if something happen to them........ Good luck with the surgurey.

BTW, if you run 345s on 12" rims they are not wider then 335s on 13" rims. I have put Project Prodigys 345 / 20s under Kevins leaf spring mini tub car and have measured section widths. The backspacing is differetn for the IRS then kevins live axle, but if it were the correct backspace they would fit.

Look at the following links and specs, this shows in Pirelli's the the 335 and 345 the same width on different rims, and shows Michelin's to be only a 1/4" different,

What will be most critical will be pushing the tubs in as far as they can go. Ordering the wheels and tires first, then mocking them in place to measure for the rear to be sure it is exactly the right width

Leadfoot1 11-07-2006 06:01 AM

Thanks guy's...

I may have left the feeling they could do something for him but in fact we went in 3 and came out two. There was nothing they could promise and 5k was a low fig + the vet told us dogs this size generally have serious complications after operations like that so on the vet's reccomendation, it was the end. :(

('Went pretty well this morning with the kids tough...+ side...)

Now onto good news!

Frank, i noticed that on;

http://www.customwheelsdirect.com/ti...nd/Pirelli.php

where thay have 13.6" on an 11.5" rim. I just didn't want to take the chance of relying on specs not founded from the real world. This is great news!!!

I'm thinking to do custom tubs at this point anyway since the DSE is cool but keeps the stock outer which would prevent me from dropping the car as low as i want it, no? ('Cause the tire would hit the part of the tub curving into the top of itself) Custom tubs will permit me to put the tire closest to the 1/4.

So i guess a 12" rim would work. (?) If i could use the hangers for 1 season it would be great!

I also have the engine (LS1) to put in etc....So it figures (well for me) budget wise that this is gonna have to be built in stages, i really want to get the look tough so i can ride in style nxt summer!!!

I'll re-read your post to sink it in later, i only wanted to say thanks! (to both of you)

And yes, Tracy, i'm going thru so much trouble for those big skins....but hey, This is HOT RODDING!!!! And its what its all about!

Gotta get to work now....

'Later

Lead.

ProdigyCustoms 11-07-2006 10:23 AM

If you are eliminating the outers and doing drag style tubs, you will have plenty of clearance with the 345s on 12" rims. I WOULD NOT try a 11.5" rim, 12" is perfect.

Check out Prodigy again

Leadfoot1 11-07-2006 01:39 PM

Thanks Frank, :hail:

I looked at the wheels pics and they look awesome. The reason i wanted to go to the the max size rim is because i didn't want tire Bulge. I'd prefer them to be kinda pulled under the rim (a la Ferrari etc). When i measure the inside lip of my tires they have 13" inside so i figured for them to stay that wide i'd need at least a 13" rim....Your 345's on a 12 inch look Very good! See....Real world data! Haaaa! Peace of mind....Now only to wait from Forgeline.

What is the BSpace on prodigy's rear wheels (only as a reference for looks as i'm thinking to put the most bs i can but am not quite sure...More is not always better than not enough or som'tin like that they say)

Tracy, sorry for hijacking a few spots! I saw your taking a break from typing today so i figure we should get pics soon????

Lead.

Edit!!

I just received anwser from Forgeline! :D :D :D

Mario, I checked the template and we are able to clear the brakes. I took the time to give you a run down of what we would be able to build and still fit around the brakes.
19x8.5 we can offer a 4.7 bs, 5.2 bs or a 5.7 bs.
The rear wheel we can only offer a 7.2 backspace due to the availability in rim shell sizes. I will check to see if there are any new offerings in the rim size that I may not be aware of. Are you doing IRS or solid axle rear end? Is the 7.2 going to be a problem if that is all I can offer. I know in the past, customers have just made the adjustment in the rear end length. We can go with more backspace on the rear, just not less (that I am aware of).

Leadfoot1 11-25-2006 07:26 PM

Tracy,

Would you have a pic of the lower arm of your Q-Link attached....My car is getting tubbed right now and i encountered a problem. I Hit the leaf at its front half even with its rear moved in (offset hangers) and it now seems i won't be able to run my leafs (or tires)....i have 14" of tire width, and 13" from outmost part of tire sidewall (measuring in) to the outmost part of the leaf)

Thats a killer as the brakes/ wheels/ brackets/ tubbing/ framing budget is getting thin. I didn't plan to put the suspension in right away (i just sold my LS1 today to make that happen now...Good deal tough, paid 600$ w/ 4L60 and sold for 3k :-)---good, but now Gonna have to run the old school 327 for the season)

Now i need to decide what to run for suspension in order to get some clearance;

I'm really interested in finding out how much clearance you get from the tire to the leaf vs tire to the rod that replaces the leaf (?) The Air Ride guys say i would only gain 1/2" with their systems bar size (care to measure the dia of yours?) It seems like its not much and might not even do the trick. I need the car to be done to eveluate this for sure but its the time thats killing me as Forgeline is running a sale 'till monday and i need to take decisions NOW! If the tires are not going to fit...I'm gonna have to get smaller ones and at that point i might change the whole set up. I'm going thru many toughts and ideas.

I really lean torward the Airbar and their lower arm is same concept as the Q-L, so i tought i would ask. I really love the Q-Link but the ride and ease of install of the bar are appealing to me...Not to mention the drop.

Any help appreciated!

Lead.
