Kudos to Jason

Like said above, not like anyone here needs to hear it again, but I've been very impressed with Jason's professionalism, and renderings from when I first worked with him on the Cuda's one-off wheels (from my past days at Budnik). And when I left, he was one of the select few who took the time to email, and call me to wish me luck with my new business. Keep up the good work, Jason, you are a good person, and an excellent artist, and it shows in everything you do, regardless if it pleases everyone or not. Can't make everyone happy right?

Very well put Jody.

To have an opinion is one thing - to belittle or knock somebody down is another. As mentioned, zero tolerance around here. There are alot of people who invest countless hours a day maintaining this site, not to mention the class act people that contribute in the forums. It's reasons like this Lateral-G has earned the reputation it has. We all have alot of pride in what this site has become and not going to let any negative influence dilute it.

With that said, Allen hit it the the nail on the head. It's like the old saying "Four eyes are better than Two". All the artist have their own style and flair. Working with an artist and having renderings done is an investment that will pay huge dividends on the back side when complete IMO.

True, Jason has steered me away from several "mistakes" on my '68 that would have made the car "average"; with a few style points and simple changes the car will have much more IMPACT, these changes are alot easier to impliment beforeyou start mixing the paint-Chris

My votes for the green on green. This was the only design that incorporated some kind of accent to the rear "hip" of the Cutlass. The hockey stripes look good too but I just like how the green one flows. And I like the way you made the front bumper blend or disappear Kris. I can't believe nobody caught that. It's a toss up for the colors of the green on green and the silver and red.

Kris Horton 12-06-2006 02:16 PM

Glad you caught the bumpers! I narrowed them and painted them. It seems to be a trend right now. I remember one of the coolest things I remember from seeing Reactor at SEMA was how great the bumpers looked and how tightly they were tucked into the body.

On some of the paint schemes I sent Jeff, I accented that rear body line, but when we had to narrow it down, we went with just the silver/red combo you see. Once the poll is over I might post one or two of the other paint schemes. :)

They all look great. Great Job by all of them.
That is a good talent to have.

JUSTANOVA 12-06-2006 04:52 PM

I have looked at these for a couple of days, a couple of times a day....so hard to choose which one. they all are awesome. I voted for #3 either way you go it's gonna be awesome.

Yeah, I hear ya! That was the toughest thing for me. I seriously have 15-20 different color and stripe combos. There were a couple that jumped out at Jeff and I, but I ended up going with the one that I began the rendering with. I think I mentioned this in the previous thread but I wanted to do a simple (read:time is money) stripe that continued the chrome notch created by the front bumper while playing up the forward shoulderline.

Anyway, I'll probably post some of the others when this is over also just for kicks. Good idea Kris.

I am working with two of four designers currently

I am currently working with Ben and Jason on different projects. All I can say is, without any reservation that both have helped tremedously to the projects that they are working on with me. They are both class acts that listen to what I want to see but also will put there own creative ideas into the mix. My projects will be better finished cars because of their involvement.

As far as Jason's style, it does not matter if you like it or not and yes you are entitled to an opinion but to say your have never been impressed by his work. What drugs are you on, dude? He is one of elite designers in the world. All I can say is just wait until later this year when you and the world will see what rolls out of my shop with Jason's help. The proof is in his work past, present, and future. And from where I sit his future looks very bright.

Kris great work love the dsesign! the tight bumpers and the smooth body, really accents the super curvey olds body even more and lets the character come out truelly in the car great work! you can tell this design was well thought through

Bill Howell 12-07-2006 04:11 PM

I have gone back and looked at the renderings a couple times now and thought of something, while I was working today.

All the oldtimers around here know that in the early 70's, a true 442 with the W-30 package had plastic inner fenders that were red. I know, that may sound tacky now, but that is the way it was back in the day. Once a final rendering is done, that might be an option to try just to add to the look, for us oldtimers. Then again, maybe not???

Great idea, I have some plans for the front inner fenders, They will be shared as part of the build

Ummgawa 12-07-2006 05:10 PM

Good idea Howell, Red inner fenders. I remember trading a dude out of a pair because he did not like "The color of the tubs and the engine color clashed". Wish they would fit the GTO.

Bill Howell 12-07-2006 05:13 PM

Funny Jim, I can remember guys painting them black for the same reason.

I MAY have told him they would not paint...its been a long time ago and I don't remember for sure.

Bill Howell 12-07-2006 05:26 PM

They were, after all, plastic.
Back then we never believed you could possible have plastic inner fenders on a car.

1970cuda 12-07-2006 05:59 PM

choices

Brian's turn signal air intakes
Ben's exhaust
Kris's bumpers
Jason's "hurst olds colors"

I'll take one of each and just figure out which one to drive on any given day!

71OLDS 12-07-2006 10:26 PM

Wow - how did I miss this? Fantastic to see all the Olds. I love all 4 of them but for obvious reasons had to pick the green on green....would love to see it w/the ram air hood though!!

4 more days looking kinda blue now, over 3000 members I'd think more than 110 had a opinion, Lets tell the fab-4 what we think about the hard work they have done, Thanks Jason Brian Kris and Ben for the hard work, And Ben if its blue can I blue it up a bit :unibrow:

Hdesign 12-11-2006 09:34 PM

This is sort of a complex issue. Everyone is chosing between the colors that are shown here on each submission. Is it fair for me to change my color selection halfway through the polling? If I can do that, everyone else should be able to. Unfortunately, Jason will end up getting screwed because he will have to redraw and re-render his entry. The other subsequent problem is, how many revisions do we get? Where does it end and when is the final submission actually final?

When Jason, Brian and I first discussed this project, we agreed that we would limit our submission to 1 entry each that we felt had the best chance. I can't speak for Kris but honestly, I'm not in a position to give permission.

Kris and I both mentioned in previous posts that we may post alternatives that were left on the cutting room floor just for fun.

I suggest we let the poll play out until Friday and make a decision then. A lot can happen in 4 days. Perhaps small revisions can be made after that.

I'm just kinda throwing this out there. I don't want to step on toes considering this is a project that each of us were draw entirely to show our appreciation rather than competition. This is what we do. We generate ideas for everyone to talk about, analyze and make a decision on.

Maybe Jason, Brian and Kris will chime in on this as well.

3kidsnotime 12-11-2006 09:58 PM

You have a great way of layin down the smak ben :D I think it is all great I would love to have some more opinion from our members thats the part that makes this kind of project fun to do. I am game for every one of the renderings, I like all 4 I have found that I cant look at them any more and I still do I get confused on what one I like the best It was great to be able to share ideas with each rendering and I find some attraction to each  now im going to have to pay you 4 to do rendeings on my challenger, after that id probably need a straitjacket :willy:

Hdesign 12-11-2006 10:12 PM

Maybe we can get a bulk rate for the nut house....headed there myself with my usual VIP treatment. :_paranoid

Yeah, diplomacy has never been a virtue of mine. Sorry, didn't mean it!

3kidsnotime 12-14-2006 06:45 PM

We only have tonight, and again I want to thank all the guys Jason Brian Kris and Ben, For the fine work and taking the time to be involved and offer the hard work for us to enjoy and turn to metal, and a Big thanks to Scott for giving us a fine place to hang out and make some great friends. :hail:

3kidsnotime 12-15-2006 11:09 AM

Congrats Ben, I cant wait to get rolling we are going to start with the engine build and trans, after they are done we will just wrap them up and put in the corner, I want to talk with you on shades of silver, Im going to base clear the engine the same color as the stripe, Im going with a brushed alum look on the engine also, we have some nice fabricated valve covers and air cleaner Im also getting rid of the ugly olds fill tube it will give the engine a cleaner look Im going to tap 1/2 npt in the back of the block in two places and we will have a remote alum. breather tank that will work for oil fill also so we will have clean valve covers and no fill tube on front, I think it will give the olds a cleaner look.

Hdesign 12-15-2006 11:27 AM

Thanks Jeff!

Sounds good, I'll get my color charts ready to go. I will hopefully get a chance to post some of the alternate color schemes for kicks. I'll be sure to post a bolder blue to see if that generates any positive feedback.

I was thinking that the same silver should be used on the grill insert and headlight bezels and taillight bezels.

Again, I want to thank everyone who participated in the poll and helped us move toward the final goal of the project.

3kidsnotime 12-15-2006 12:19 PM

Post away!! I think its a great idea :willy:

JayR 12-15-2006 06:17 PM

Congratulations, Ben! Great concept with original ideas in a very nice presentation. Keep up the good work and I look forward to watching Your project evolve, Jeff!

ottatyme 12-15-2006 06:52 PM

I'd like to second Jason's congratulations and well-wishes on the project, and extend my gratitude once more to Jason for organizing the idea of submitting the designs... It was a blast working with Jason and Ben early on, throwing ideas around, and just having fun with it.
Here's hoping for all the best with this project, and can't wait to see the great ideas put into steel!
Thanks again to Jeff and Scott for the board and the project, and Ben, man, way to go!

Even though we had a poll to vote for the rendering, all versions will be kept on the s-Curve webpage along with the links to each respective artist's website. I can't thank each of you enough for donating your time and effort on this.
