Man, this is one of the most incredible cars I've ever seen. Well well well done!

Taking a lot of notes here.

73CPCAMARO 11-01-2011 09:20 PM

I will be at my car on Wednesday am and most of Thursday and Friday. I have a lot of Wilwood posters with my car on it. Please come by and say hi and take one. My car is parked at the Optima truck with my buddy Mike Maier abd his 66 Mustang.

Just read through it again.

Did you make your weight goal?

The car weighs about 2900 lbs before I added 200 lbs of lead over the rear axle. Minimum weight is 3100 lbs for the class I run. With the big wheels and street tires the car weighs closer to 3200 lbs.

Brian just curious, did you run Optima with the lead? Is it even removable? Also, looks like smaller rotors than before? Not that I noticed w that big Willwood sticker on the side

If you can't tell, I dig your car (even without the side windows, :D )...

I left the weight in the car..so I ran around 3180 - 3200 lbs. The car is balanced and that was more important than weight. The lead is removable in 6 lb bars in two 50 cal. ammo boxes mounted in the rear.

This door window subject is understandable to a point. I drove over 100 miles in the rain and 38 degrees last Friday night. It actually was not that bad and I did not even get wet. :D I put the bed liner material in for that reason. I have a fan than pulls engine heat into the interior and that helped out a lot. Everything is coated so that it can get wet and clean very easily. I washed the car at 5am of the day of the event in the car wash.

The rotors and calipers were all upgraded at Wilwood a few weeks ago. I went with a 6 piston caliper in the front and the new Spec 37 rotors all around. Check out the video we shot for OUSCI:

Very cool vid Brian.. Looks like a great brake set up..

Listen, I was just teasin' you about the side windows to make you smile. If it didn't work I apologize, but I think you should pay no attention to any of those comments. You know who you are, what your car is and why/how you built it. I also think you got plenty of positive support on this site for your participation. After seeing you run on Saturday, I'll be cheering your success at every event....

Ron,

I appreciate all the support I have received from you and others on this forum. Again, I totally understand where everyone is coming from. I am pushing the envelope with my car, but someone has to. :D If the rules mandate windows, I may put them in. It will just cost me money I don't want to spend. I like spending my time and money on go fast stuff over comfort items I don't need. It will not slow the car down. If windows are really that big a deal and they think it is going to change the results, they need to think again. Car builds are all about compromise.

I have said it many times and I will say it once more. My car was built to be fast on the autocross, capable of running fast at an open track AND be safe (cage), and when I am not racing, drive it on the street on a cruise, hot rod night or car show. Do all of that and look bad ass at the same time. I painted it orange for a reason :unibrow:

I was very honored to have Bill Goldberg make it a point to find me and tell me how much he loved my car. I can't think of a better and bigger guy to have on my side.

I hope I will be welcome at any future RTT_'s and possibly OUSCI again. The events are a blast and the guys/gals are great people.

Thanks for all the good words all. I getting really excited. Here are a couple more of the left quarter panel with the exhaust exit.

I am still working on my plans for 2012. There is a really good chance I will be going to Nebraska in September for the SCCA Solo II National Championship. That would be the farthest east I may go. I may be able to hit the Goodguys show in Kansas in September while I am on the trip. Most of my time will be on the west coast running autocrosses and a few open track events.

Man thats just one cool car you have built! Thank you for sharing it with us.

73CPCAMARO 01-29-2012 08:59 PM

Last year was a great year and I have been getting ready to enjoy 2012. Thank you to everyone that helped me in 2011 and made it a successful first year with the new car. I was very fortunate to have amazing people work on the car to get it were it is at today. Thank you to: Maier Racing, JRI Shocks, Wilwood Brakes, K&N, Mast Motorsports, DPE Wheels, Cort with Seever and Sons, The Rear End Shop, Elite Auto Films, Elite Auto Glass, Car West Elite, PPG, Kent Automotive, my buddy Rob who did all the electircal, and of course my Dad.

We made some geometry changes to the front suspension a few weeks ago that made a huge improvement. I ran the car a couple weeks ago and I was very pleased with results. We are in the process of upgrading the steering components with a pump and box from Turn One. We also adjusted the corner weights again and the balance seems good. With the Michelins, the car weighs 3230. The larger wheels and heavier tires are about 100 lbs more than the CCW's and Hoosiers.

I hope to see a lot of you guys here on the forum at RTTC III. It should be a great time. :D

Here are some shots from OUSCI where I finished 3rd.

Sure would be curious about what kind of suspension changes you made. Still top secret I guess. Looking at your upright design and what you are trying to do there makes me really curious how you think it is working.

What issues are you trying to improve with a new pump and box ?

The Maier Racing built suspension has a tremendous amount of adjustability. The uprights are amazing and every angle you can think of can be adjusted. Basically, we made a significant spring rate change, sway bar, and geometry change and the turn in is incredible. In the next month, more testing is needed to finalize the settings. I should be dailed in for RTTC III.

The steering pump and box are being upgraded for a better feel and reliability. I had changed ratios late summer with a cheap box and it failed on me right after OUSCI and the November Goodguys. The new box is the 600 series and the pump is set to match my car.

That's a mean looking car man! Love it! :)

Just curious Brian what is the backspacing and hub bore on your DPE wheels, and how much were they if you don't mind me asking I'm wanting to pick up a set of their super concaves for my 2nd gen?

Thanks

Not cheap, over $1200 per wheel. His backspacing would only really work if you had the exact same steering/suspension as him.

Cant wait to see your car on TV Brian, should make for a good show

Thanks Slo_Z28, I figured it was about 6k for a set I was trying to pin an exact number! lol

Nice Add on the backside of the HotRod Cover .
How much camber were you running in the pick ? looks like a ton from that angle .Any chance you shortened the upper A arm and took some -camber out ? Just guessing here .

The backspacing I use is simular as the rear on a C6 Z06. I use that on all four corners. The rear wheels are 13" wide and 9.25" back space. The fronts are 11.5" wide 8.5" back space. The wheels will be priced dependant on size and color choice. Mine are special made wheels that on not on the website. DPE does a great job with their wheels and and come up with many setups. $1200 per wheel is about average. Mine might be a bit more than that.

Cort, with Seever and Sons, is the man to talk to in Nor Cal if you need wheels. (925)463-3443

It was nice to see that ad when I opened up Hot Rod the other day.

My suspension is all custom Maier Racing suspension. The A Arms are actually fairly long, upper and lower. I run anywhere from 2.5 to 3.25 degrees of negative camber in the front. The rear is a solid axle Ford 9" with a Maier Racing 3-link with a Watts link.

Wow, I NEVER get tired of seeing this car. Just awesome.

Did you buy or fabricate your hood? I noticed the "scoop" rises to one level and stays that way all the way back. The aftermarket cowl style hoods I've seen have a continuous rise that I don't care for. If you bought it, where from?

The hood is from UP22. Typical of all the fiberglass hoods. We cut out the spine and lowered the hood to get the look I wanted. Here are some photos of the work we did.

Did you like the quality on the UP22 aka Unlimited Products hood? I've been on the fence about getting a L88 hood from them for some time now, the thing holding me back is knowing how much work some fiberglass panels take to get them to fit.

It was okay. The cowl was not even from left to right side near the windshield side. That was one of the reasons why we had to cut it down. Other than that, for fiberglass, it was okay. I believe there are better hoods out there. Since I was not fitting it to a Camaro with existing steel fenders, I do not know how the fitment would be.

Brian - Your making it very difficult to not buy a 2nd gen Camaro and build this wild idea I have for a 72. Man that thing is bad. I love orange and I love 72 camaros.

What color did you use on this?
