http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/basics.htm After reviewing that article click on tech from the menu bar for another couple weeks of free reading and increased knowledge. One nice thing about Ken is he doesn't think you need $10K of camera in your hand to take a good image. At his recommendation I bought my the new EF-S 18-135 STI lens from Canon.....cheap as lenses go and it's tack sharp. Definitely my go to lens.......if it was a straight f2.8 I'd be in heaven. |
Here are a few pictures from when I was in the Marine Corps ,When I was Stationed out of Okinawa, Japan and in the South Pacific, in 1977.

Ahhhhhhhhh...... I just love Sun Valley. Walk by this scene taken from a bridge on Sun Valley road - every day...

Very nice scenery, Greg.

Had a gray overcast day here yesterday but late in the evening the clouds started to break up to reveal a deep red sun.
Couldn't get down the the beach to shoot it over the water but these were taken from our Alfresco at home one with flash on, other with flash off, just before 9pm http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps8c78f02e.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps80056f4c.jpg |
Had to get a new phone so I've been playing with it a little. So far I'd say it's not too bad. Allows a lot of "manual" exposure input and legit creativity for a phone. Samsung Galaxy 3.

Great shot Don! Missy and the Maple River shots are money! Pikes Peak......rode the cog train up there once, well worth the journey.

I knew the "Living in harmony" shot was out of focus, but I thought it was cool. Colorado Springs is my home town. Did you ever make it to the Hill Climb? |

I've stayed at the Broadmoor a couple times on business conventions. Love the area and the Pikes Peak race. Still pains me that they went all tarmac......but haven't had opportunity to make the race. Thanks to GoPro, helicopter video, and the internet I feel like I've been there! I'll go back to the Broadmoor, it's an all time favorite! Another phone pic: http://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-j...jQwcmXh-XL.jpg |
Great shot of the hotel. Were you there after they (about 3 years ago) did a remodel and built a new swanky tower etc? Business is good. I believe the cheapest room is $500.
My first job at the age of 14 was a caddie there lol. I stopped going to the Hill climb when they started paving it. It used to be a 4th of July ritual every year to go up there the night before and PAR..TAY! :headspin: When Bobbie Unser, little Al, Or big Al came by it was a real sight! When I look back at the way I drove down the hill after the race, it's a miracle I'm still around lol. |
That image was taken Oct 2010. Construction was in progress. Love the history of the place, accommodations, and service is nice, not over done. Never did get to play the golf courses since our trips were off season, I'd like to as they look decent.......and I've never played above 3500' :unibrow:
I would have loved to have been on the mountain for Michelle's Mouton's run in the Audi. |

fiber. WOW...some machine. The super cars of Millen, Bobby Jr, etc made a big splash too! How about those in-car vids nowadays ....that's what I'm talking about. |
Really nice shots DON!!!

This fawn showed up one day in the back yard and hung out for a couple of weeks. One day the herd came by and he left when a large doe came over. I wonder if it was his mother. He had no fear of humans or other animals. He would eat right out of your hand. http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4066/4...d41487ce_o.jpg http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2772/4...00988edb_b.jpg A bird flew into the house one day through the patio doors. Missy and Mouse were interested! I made sure the bird got out safely shortly after this was taken. lol http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4054/4...4327eb71_b.jpg |
That shot of the Michigan river looks like a jigsaw puzzle. Great shots....
Where is that hotel at? Colorado? |
^ the Broadmor is in Colorado Springs. It is absolutely beautiful and a great place to party (take my word for it, they're pretty tolerant, lol). The spa is top 5 in the world according to SPA Magazine and the views/golf is fantastic.
I was there before the remodel and it was killer. I can only imagine what it looks like now. |
Broadmor is nice. Too nice. I was there a couple years ago now. Luckily, I didn't foot the bill. I felt really weird having valet parking since I come and go often in a hotel. Lovely area in general. Of cool note is the fact that Cheyenne Mountain is right there too. Yes, that Cheyenne Mountain.
Don, you too have a cat named Mouse? I was thinking I was the only one crazy enough to name a cat Mouse. She was tiny when I found her so I felt it fit. She's not so tiny any more, lol. Here's a link to Nat Geo's picture contest. Everyone an amazing shot in my opinion. http://m.theatlantic.com/infocus/201...t-2013/100629/ |
Awesome NG shots Trey.
I think I like the one of Skip the best. http://cdn.theatlantic.com/static/in...6_11229445.jpg |
