Thanks for the info. Greg! At least you some years of experience like you were telling me yesterday.. Not like some people we know that all they have is internet knowledge.. We have built a few cars,, got some grease under your finger nails.. scrapes & brusies..

I got educated today on running a car on a chassis dyno.. @ first I was disappointed with the numbers.. then it was explained to me the difference between a dynojet & Mustang.. That is why my tuner made sure that if I commented on the numbers.. Make sure you say it was on a Mustang Dyno..

I won't thread jack with a dyno discussion -- and I didn't cut and paste all the resulting documentation - but this test is just one of many...

West Automotive Performance Engineering has developed a proprietary device that independently measures a vehicle's actual speed and acceleration. This device is similar in operation to a fifth wheel but doesn't use accelerometers that can be influenced by the vehicle's body tilt. Using the vehicle's speed, acceleration, and weight (mass) and the application of simple physics equations, the exact horsepower and torque can be calculated. The horsepower and torque measured by West Automotive Performance Engineering's dyno is actually the horsepower made-good, or the horsepower left over to accelerate the vehicle after all the aerodynamic and rolling-friction losses have been overcome. These losses were accounted for and included West Automotive Performance Engineering's dyno so that a comparison with a chassis dynamometer can be made. The Mustang dyno includes the aerodynamic load that it places on the drivetrain as part of its reported rear-wheel horsepower and torque. Stated another way, the Mustang dyno does not measure the horsepower made-good.
Graphs 7 and 10 show the horsepower and torque versus rpm in Second and Third gear, respectively, for the Dynojet dyno, the Mustang dyno, and from road testing with the dyno from West Automotive Performance Engineering. You can see that the horsepower and the torque, as measured on the road, are closer to the Mustang dyno measurements. Also from the acceleration tests you can see how the Mustang dyno loads the vehicle very closely to how it will be actually loaded on the road. Based on our test data, the Mustang dyno loaded our test vehicle and measured the rearwheel horsepower closer to what the vehicle experiences on the road.

Thank you Sir! See Ya Soon!

I would think 500 rwhp would make for a pretty exciting ride, but then I only have 350 rwhp. Cris you really nailed the T/A dash. It looks better than the original, which in my biased opinion is one of the best dashes of all time. The rest of the car is pretty good too. :wow:

Are you not running a passenger seat?

Also wondering why the car is so heavy. Your an easy 600 lbs heavier than me. I always thought the 67's and 68's were alot lighter than the '69's.

Casanova claims to be around 3600 also.

Thanks Tony & Tmadden!

You are welcome Cris, I'm glad that they worked out for you. They look even better with your finishing touches.

And it just keeps getting better. One of my favorite builds--being able to go for a run around the auto cross in the car at Del Mar was a highlight. Next time I get Weld money, i'll drop my car off at your shop and just let you come up with stuff like you did on this one---amazing. BTW, love the on board fire system---everyone should have one of those--including me--a must have.

Rudy and I were at the shop yesterday --- looking over BB.... and I notice these two 45* -6 AN fittings hanging from the firewall... and ask Cris -- "where are those suppose to go?".

He laughs and says it's the fire suppression system. My thoughts? Now that's KOOL!!

Thanks Doug! I got the Camarillo Airport scheduled for the 3rd & 4th of February.. Testing & tuning for two days.. The Pozzi's will be here to take on that task.. Mary will be driving the car @ RTTC.. The owner will not be able to make it in that weekend.. I already ordered her a new steering wheel!

Cris@JCG 02-03-2012 06:31 PM

Testing & tuning today! Spent a whole day adjusting shocks, ride height, negitive camber, changing brake pads.. But it was well worth it.. The end results were all positive.. except that we need to change the bad gears we have in rear diff..

Got to thank Dave & Mary for coming out & helping with tuning & driving the car to let us know what changes needed to be done..

The Camarillo Airport was a great place for us to do runs & testing.. The nice thing about renting it out for the day was all the run time we got in.. Mary would drive it.. come in adjustments.. & back out.. Plus a few of my friends we able to squeeze in some practice time..

These are the only pics I got .. cause I was busy wrenching on the car.. We will have some videos here pretty soon with other pics from a few of the guys that were out their with me..

Ok, that was an awsome day with Cris, Mary, Dave and the crew testing Blu-Balz. Thanks for inviting me and the Fab53 Camaro.

So, this is the story in short form. Testing and tuning means nothing UNLESS you have the right crew with experience to understand and communicate what is needed for a car to get quicker... and/or fine tuned.

These two videos are partial documentation and evidence of the hard work put into such a fine machine as JCG's 68 Camaro Blu-Balz. In the first video, which is earlier in the day, I was able to keep BB close in my GoPro sights with minimal struggles.

But, in the second video, which is later in the day, you will see that it became harder for me to keep a close shot of BB. She was able to pull away with ease. The car became faster and Mary became more comfortable with what she could do with it. This is a true testament to what a great driver, Mary Possi, a great crew, Dave Possi Cris Gonzo and team can do with a pro-touring machine.

Enjoy. And Cris.... I have more shots that I will send to you directly.

Thanks again for a great day out with a fun bunch of people.

yea, BB had some 300 treadware bias ply, I was running race slicks....

na, just F%*%*g with ya all.. lol. Both of us were running Nitto NT05 tires, BB's had minimal wear... and mine were bald. No kidden. My back tires were eventually bald at the end of the day.

I'm Sure Cris will chim in about the final adjustments (I know he was planning to spend time with family today). But let me tell ya, that car is getting fast and I'm assuming it has more in it.

Cris@JCG 02-04-2012 02:55 PM

Here is a little recap of the testing & tuning that we went thru this week… Basically I just sat down & listened to everything David & Mary were telling.. I just followed their lead & did as I was asked on all the suspension tuning of the car.. I was calling David & getting spring rates they wanted to see on the car, setting the shocks to how Mary wanted the car to set in a corner, setting the camber to what they thought worked the best.. I just did exactly what they told me to do.. Plus the owner the car right before I ship it out.. He said do whatever it takes to shake that car out! Rent a track get the Pozzi’s in.. Buy springs, change the steering wheel, & etc. All I said I will get err done! As long as I don’t lose my ride height!

We put a RacePak on the car to get some reading on what the car was doing.. Mary was consistently pulling 1 G lateral loads on the car both ways.. Maybe David will post that graph later..

Another thing that we did was take pictures of the car as it was being tested & tuned… Casey got some great pics of the car to observe how the car was leaning & watching the tire contact patch to the pavement… I will just post random pics of that so that you guys can see what the car was going!

A most excellent day and I'm very happy with the way this car responded to the changes we did. Have to say the most significant one was the change of brake pad friction material and man, those Wilwood stoppers sure work good. Having the right stuff at the calipers is huge.

Thanks to Cris and the owner of the Camaro for entrusting this part of the development to me and there's still more tricks in the bag that when done, will get this car even better.

We did that. After temp'ing the tires some pressure and camber changes were made. It made a big difference. The tire temps were much better at the end of the day.

That car stops. Now. Right now. Anchor-dropping right now.

Here is some cornering data. Always remember these are just what the system records, not absolute calibrated numbers. Body lean can add error to the data.

Coming out to play...

David and Mary,

I cannot wait to come out to play with you two, and all the other Cool people on these sites..

I will be starting at Ground Zero with my car, but I can see my learning curve accelerate if I am anywhere near you, and your Crew.

Do you ever take other people's cars out to feel them out and give feedback ?

And I can see that this could get costly, with parts, tires, gear, maintinence.

But I will be watching the BlueBalz video a few times today..

Great driving...You need a Bugatti to be the chase vehicle if you hope to film Mary racing...

Yes, we do help with chassis and driver development as its fun and both the owner/driver and the two of us learn from it. If you have a solid car to begin with, your main expense will be tires. Autocrossing is so much gentler on cars than people think it is and you can autocross a year on what it would cost to just get through a practice and qualifying session for one race.

I usually ride with people or have them ride with me and just watch one or two things, then I might drive their cars before offering advice. One or two things can make a huge difference between a car that has "holes" and one that's confirmed for its job.

Small things, too. Steering wheel hand position, seating position, even size and feel of the steering wheel can make a slight difference in your autocross times.

We can talk more at an event.

Mary

Thanks..

Steve at East Bay Muscle Cars is setting up the Car, and things are turning out great.. He told me to drive it and give him feed back on any adjusting of the shocks..

And things are adjustable, but as a 52 year old newbie, I am not sure what adjustments to tell Steve about, as we fine tune the car..

I will warn you, although I do have a nice 350mm Momo Race steering wheel that feels great, I have the stock seats until next Winter's interior gutting, so I know seats will be an issue, but the car is rock solid and freshly gone over..

But the seats are a joke until next winter.. so times will suffer a little.. I borrowed a set of Procaro's years ago, and I could drive so much faster in the turns, so i know that with all the new parts, WHEN i get seats, oh boy, that will help a lot..

Good to know about the tires..I figure i get a few seasons out of the KDW's, that will be good.. One big Track race, nope, not that many dollars in the fun fund anymore..it is all in the car, haha.

I come down to have fun and to learn, and apparently , to meet some great people.

I cannot wait to meet all you "Eagles ".. :lateral: :woot:

Chris - that thing looks like it gets up out of the hole pretty darn quick! (and that's even with Brett pedaling behind with the camera as fast as he can - no slouch). I wanted to make it up this weekend but I was installing Carl's Vaporworx to my fuel tank. Carl got me all my parts so we were cutting on my fuel tank this weekend.

And I think Todd is suggesting we institute a Pozzi-Tuned handicap points system ;-)

Awesome job man - that owner should be very happy!
