I love the looks... but beauty is only skin deep. I'll get it all sorted out. It did completely CHANGE the look and style of the car and I'm happy with the "looks". |

There is an under car exhaust that comes off the lake style header - most of the off the shelf stuff you see the exhaust run off the bottom of the collector and goes down OUTSIDE the frame and then back underneath. TIM BRUNING (our MISTER Tim Bruning) built this so the exhaust goes off the collector and INSIDE the frame and then runs back so you don't see it. Super sweet idea and execution on his part! |

Sorry to read about all the trouble you've had with the car. I know you've improved how its running, but it still had a nice, different sound to it, likely due to the unique exhaust. If I didn't know it was a sbc Chevy, I doubt I would've been able to guess what motor was in the deuce ... and I like that. |
Sorry to hear about all the problems with the car. I was hoping (For you ) the problems from the first day would be the only ones. I hope the weather holds out for you and you get to enjoy it some. I wish you would drive that as you call it POS Nomad to New York so I could drive down and see it. lol I hope it goes better tomorrow.

Damn Greg, Sorry to hear about the issues you have found. I'm sure you will get it straightened out, just don't severely hurt anyone.:_paranoid

Jody, I've had lots and lots of cars.... but this little POS is the most fun car I've ever owned (despite the stupid "mistakes" SAR built into the car). It's a friggin little rocket ship... handles like a go kart with suspension... sounds bad ass... has gears to row... My brother in law is 6' 4".... and he fits in it. Not sure if the plastic surgeon can get those teeth marks out of his knees though. They might buff out. HUGE -- JUST HUGE -- difference in this car than "normal" '32 Fords.... these little POS NEED the suspension - i.e., the Kugel (or other) IRS and IFS really really changes how these light weight - ultra short... cars ride. The ride on this car is awesome! |
Greg,
Well, it did rain last night but it is clear now.... a few clouds, but clear. I live "over the hill" in Santa Ynez, and it looks decent outside here. I plan to be at the show by noon....... Hopefully I can catch up with you. --Eric |
Deep Breath.................. and out..................
i guess you need to debug it at some point. that is why i don't let the customer take his car till after a test drive, sorry Greg :willy: |
Not impressed, there is a lot to be said for well thought out systems and the "Engineering". Looks and sounds killer. A few bugs are expected. That seems extreme for a pro shop, though.
You know the old saying, "If you want it done right, you have to do it yourself". |
WOW :wow:
|
When building a car there are tons of things to think about. Not all can be forseen. Before we tell the customer we are ready foe him to come drive it we drive it for about a week or till everything is fixed. We try our best to use what we learned on the last car and make the next one better. Sorry your having so many problems. I've been there.

Look what I saw today in Santa Barbara:

It sure does look sweet!

Here are two more:
http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n...P1010004-1.jpg http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n...a/P1010005.jpg The car sat unattended, soooooo I decided to sit in it! Real attention getter!!! It was great..... I got out after about 30 minutes or so. Pics are nice but an AWESOME car in person. --Eric |
Looks great Greg. Sorry to hear about the issues. All cars seem to have some, but other can be avoided. I always seem to lose my a$$ on finishing one. I never plan enough hours no matter how many times I double the time I expect it too take. Deveil is in the details and makes all the difference in the world to the customer.

Nice to meet you Greg, car looked amazing!
Dave |
Sounds like Greg may have other vehicle issues...... (he sure is quiet).
--Eric |
He is having a bunch of issues. For the money he spent on this car, he shouldn't have any issues. On the flip side SAR should of test drove and de-bugged some of the issues.
He is probably quiet cause he is back on the road (trailering) heading to his next destination. |

I know Greg will chime in soon. --Eric |
So did he get a "pick"? I noticed the sticker on the front headlight.
|
Greg, that car looks great. Hopefully all the issues can be sorted out so you can enjoy that bad boy!
GOOD LUCK! |
Thanks for the pics Eric! We had a nice lunch at Chases Bar and Grill there on State St.... wish you could have joined us! It's "old Santa Barbara Eye Talion" with photos of Frank Sinatra on the walls etc.
Okay --- So the truck took a dump leaving Sunday afternoon up Hwy 101 -- so I made a hasty decision to stop at Santa Maria where there was a Ford dealership. Monday AM they replaced some "module" for $1100 and I was back running and gunning. It is an '06 with 82,000 miles of towing on the clock. There is 1900 HOURS on the motor - do the math - that's an AVERAGE of 43 MPH for the entire 1900 hours. Eventually something has to break. It didn't leave me F O R D on the road but I had NO power... even on the flat it was wheezing. We stopped Monday night in Willows and then made our way to Portland (home of SAR) where I dropped the car last night. To those that have posted about debugging..... Trust me when I tell you this ain't my first goat rodeo. Debugging is normal and acceptable... but it is NOT normal and or acceptable when the problems are caused by just plain old stupid. I know the difference. The stuff I'm really hacked off about is not "oops".... It's AMATEUR HOUR. They WILL fix it - and there is no issue that way. This is a good top notch shop and I've never doubted that it will be made to be PERFECT. The car at the show (a real average bunch of cars in my opinion but a GREAT TOWN)... was built by The Roadster Shop.... and it deserved the Best of Show trophy... and it also kicked our butts in the roadster class. My hat is off to Phil et al. |
the only question i have is , you spent all this money and time building a great looking car . 200 hrs or more in the frame work , 100 hrs in the chin spoiler , 300 hrs in the special cast ends and gadgets ,150 hrs in the paint on the chassis , 3500 in wheels ,200 hrs in the exhaust ........... and you did not polish the f*$cin heads ? WTF ? lol

Kenny -- Even the best of us can f**** up once in awhile. The heads will be painted. SAR had them all taped up when they were to paint the motor and I yelled at them to NOT paint my aluminum heads.... but of course -- on THIS item they were right on and I'm the idiot. BTW -- you're hourly estimates are WAY WAY LOW. |
Okay --- Here's a couple more photos now that I had a few minutes "alone with the car"...

Did! :woot: The quick change will be "quickly changed" (by reversing the gear order top to bottom) from the 3:90 to the 4:30 ratio... :unibrow: |

At least bring yourself, it's a great time. |
It looks great Greg. I see that Nomad in the background too. Both are Sweet!

Well.... can you do 'tweaks'? And can you do a few 're-dos'? Cause this wasn't even a full build --- it was just a light remodeling.:wow: |
Turned out amazing Greg!
Are we going to get to see this (and you I suppose) in Pleasanton? Matt |
You'd be seeing it if the builder -- AKA S.A.R or Steve's Auto Restoration -- can get their act together and get the long list of "fix it's" done. When I told them I was signed up for that show and asked for it to be done in time -- Steve just shrugged his shoulders and said "it'll be done when it's done".... so at this point.... I'm thinking that means a miracle would be required. They have paint work to do... wiring issues to sort... gear grease to remove.... exhaust work... :faint: :wow:

Greg,
The 32 looks amazing! Sorry if she gave you a little trouble out there the first run, I think we all have been there with a fresh project out on the 101 freeway,oh the memories..**cue carpenters we only just begun music** The traffic wizzin buy at 80mph,the wife (in the pass seat) bitching about the sky and her hair being windblown,my heart in my chest in fear of being rear ended or worse, and all trying to lay upside down under my dash looking for a blown fuel pump relay fuse with no friggin working flashlight...yep..been right there my friend :faint: lol. But all kidding aside the 32 looks incredible and I bet she is a hoot to drive! thanks for all the great pictures so far,get those little bugs out, summer is just started! Oh..I think this would be another nice touch to your 32 engine bay....the one on the left actually. :unibrow: http://www.billetspecialties.com/ass...00191-prod.jpg |
A few emails back and forth today --- the good news... GREAT NEWS actually is that S.A.R. will do whatever it takes to get the '32 done and ready for me to haul to Pleasanton on June 2nd.... SO I WILL BE THERE.
I said they were a good shop. Sometimes if I see a spider web... and in order to knock it down... I drive a semi through it. :D And I never take a breath! |
