I like wings too Preston. We should have some, and some beer, and talk about cars

57hemicuda 01-18-2018 06:19 PM

Slowly getting it done

The rear quarters are shaping up nicely Ron, great work! Interesting, my Javelin is also going to be at 73" wide for track width, although looks like your car will be a lot lower than mine. I am shooting for 4.5 - 5" at the firewall to the new frame. I am not sure how I am going to do the fenders yet. At least seeing your car shows me some of the tire coverage issues I will be facing but, I will have plenty of time to figure it out before I get into sheet metal work.

Thanks,
Jon

You're an inspiration Ron, I've been sneakily watching your build for quite a while now. I'm working on a '73 Challenger with a C5 corvette rearend (and V10 up front). I've almost had myself convinced I needed to narrow the suspension mount points and shorten the axles, but these new updates are inspiring me to keep with my original plan to widen the rear quarters ~3" per side. The challengers have a sharp body line and it's gonna be difficult for me to get it to look right, but its only sheetmetal! Keep up the good work!

Getting a little closer everyday

Unfortunately I can't put big tars on the car again until the parts are back from the glass guy. The welded edges for the mold hit the big tars

WOW, how did you duplicate it?

57hemicuda 02-08-2018 11:56 AM

I cut little templates out of cardboard and use them for gauges. It is not a lot of fun making them match though

Flash68 02-08-2018 03:35 PM

So killer.

When does the LS7 go in? :slingshot:

Zspoiler 02-09-2018 08:32 AM

Very nice build .Reminds me of the Trans Am cars of the ate sixties early 70`s I have seen Dan Gurney`s car at the Vintage races at Pacific Raceway near Seattle. In fact o friend of mine had a light blue 1969 AMX.I was wondering if you are going to add a rear spoiler with a modern splitter to your car. Good luck to you.

Rake?

Are the wheel lips the same height? Looks higher in the front? No?

57hemicuda 02-18-2018 05:51 AM

Did Vince or Greg tell you to ask that? Ron Sutton did the suspension design where he had me take all the rake out of the car. Me knowing I will at least have 1" of rake on the street. Fearing if I made them the same front to back, the car would look like it had Gabriel High Jackers on it when I did put some rake in the car. I lost all my Foghat 8 tracks, so I had to cover the tires a bit in the rear.

Sweet, looks great, very nice lines

57hemicuda 02-18-2018 03:32 PM

Finally got the crudely welded together panels done. Pull some fiberglass molds off of these panels, then the part. Yahoo, then I get to do body work attaching them to the car.

57hemicuda 02-27-2018 06:09 PM

Quarters have had the molds pulled, now I need to finish the welding on the car

Sounds like a big heaping pile of insult and disrespect, almost like "Bless His Heart".

They said that same stuff when I opened the fish farm, and fed the Tuna only mayonnaise, nobody else sees my Genius.

Now that was funny!!!

Sieg 03-05-2018 09:56 PM

Just remember the big day is August 2018, not 2019. It would be nice to have at least 3 American cars show up.

57hemicuda 03-06-2018 03:14 AM

Any second I'm not at work, or trying to remind my wife to like me, I'm at it. Greg's car is still behind me. :goggles:
