Eric I Did a little on the car today took out the hydraulic clutch slave cylinder and reservoir, and the pedals. Then the steering column came out. Did about half hour of wiring and tried to figure out the DSE V/A bracket. Anyone have a picture of the DSE Vintage Air bracket mounted in a 69 Camaro? Not much but it was warm enough to get some heat in the garage, laying on the cold floor in the car gets old fast.
|
Oh wow Wayne. Theres nothing like unwrapping all the cool new toys. Install it and let us hear it rip! :bigun2:
|
Thanks everyone
I'm trying John, I'm trying! I'm going to post in Garage equipment, but has anyone used the Mac's Pivot with the adapter for LS engines? They used it on 48 hour Corvette. This is my big hurrah as far as big projects go so its a big outlay of cash for one build. I don't want to be cracking the engine open then have a problem only to have GM say its from pulling the super charge off to install it in the car. I also saw some brackets that bolt to the ends of the heads in a GM video but don't know if someone sell anything like it. Let me know your opinions. Thanks |

See, I do about 10 engines a year ;) |
I just ordered it last night from Summit racing, I got the x tall one. Maybe I can rent it out to other guys like me that only need it for one job.
Thanks for the offer. |
Summit stepped up
I ordered my Mac's pivot leveler and adapter for the LS engines. Summit had the XX tall adapter for $119 so I ordered it on the 18th. Today I get an E Mail from them saying they no longer make that one and they could give me the X tall one for $149, so I called and told them they charged my card then they can't get it and now they want $30 More for this one, which is the right price for it. They put me on hold and come back and give the more expensive one for the original price of the cheaper one. I thought that was pretty stand up of them. I was just hoping for a small discount.
I also got my VaporWorks controller for the CTS V fuel module, It looks like a very nice well made kit. One more fitting and the tank will be ready for when I need it to go in. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psj64w2ajn.jpg |
Rummaged around and found some AN fittings and bought some to plumb up my Fuel module for the VaporWorks tank today only need a small 3" piece of -8 PTFE hose to connect the corner pickups and I can install it in the tank. Tried it to see how its going to work.

Enjoying the updates Wayne.
Better weather days ahead soon for us snowbelters, right? :disgusted: |
Hell yea ! It was 42 yesterday and it felt like summer.

I got the piece of PTFE hose so I could connect the corner pickups to the pump ( Message to self-- Next time buy black braided polyester covered hose instead of Stainless steel if your going to peel it off the inside hose! I'm still licking my wounds... ) Here's the connection I made. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pslhtid4r9.jpg and it mocked up in the tank. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psvd4trwal.jpg OK whats the secret to getting the ring to lock on the tank? Does it take 9 men and a boy to get it to close? I tried pushing down while trying to turn it, thats not happening! Next I'll round up some help to hit it while I push down on it. Any secret hand shake or code words to get this done will be appreciated. |
I am interested to know, as I will have to do the same thing.
|
There's a app for that....
I actually have a special wrench made for this on STOCK tanks.... I'd call and ask the tank manufacturer for their advice. Did you silicone or put any lube on the O ring? Do that before you tear it. |
It's looking good Wayne.:popcorn2:

I put a little petroleum jelly on the O ring but the pump module has a tab that locates it so it doesn't turn. I think its just the thickness of the O ring that makes it tough.
Don I'll check that. I wonder if any of the chain auto parts stores has a rent a tool for this? |
Well I finally got the rest of my Mac's pivot with the tall LS adapter. The powder coating came in chipped up I guess from shipping even though it was wrapped. It looks like it wasn't blasted before coating .Click to enlarge picture.
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psbynajevf.jpg It's a little short to make it over the supercharger, about 2-3" would make plenty of room for the LSA. ( I noticed they used extensions on the 48 hour Corvette ) Right now it has to sit on the SC lid to get bolted together. I would make extensions for the sides to raise it, but it also hits the coil mounts that are cast into the valve covers on the LSA,LS9 so it would need spacers on it where it attaches to the exhaust flange mating surface at the head. If Mac's says it alright to space it out I'll just make some or take the SC lid off. I guess I might be putting the Zl1 lid on sooner than I expected, since the lid might have to come off any way. Here's a picture of it loosely bolted on, you can see its hitting the coil mount. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psrgvaurrs.jpg I'm thinking Maybe I can put a slot in it where the coil mount is and not need to space it out. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psw1bun0fq.jpg With it touching the coil mount this is as close as it gets at the top. with the other side up tight to the spreader. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psped8dykf.jpg |
Need advise
Please excuse me if this sounds confusing :confused18:
Hi I took the LS adapter for the Mac's Pivot leveler and test spaced it out far enough to have it clear the coil mounts on my LSA valve covers. It took 9/16" to give me a little less than a quarter of an inch clearance. My question is can I make 9/16 or 5/8" thick spacers the same size as the adapter mounting parts that bolts to the exhaust mount and the spreader bar at the top and just bolt through the spacer with longer bolts, or should I fasten them to the LS adapter and spreader with bolts drilled and tapped solid to the motor and spreader of the Mac's or just use longer bolts. They are 10.9 metric grade LS exhaust bolt size ? I'm worried about them shearing off because they would be 5/8" longer and holding the weight in two places (both sides of the spacers) I was thinking of making the spacers and drilling through the spacer then drill and tap the Adapter and the spreader and blind bolt the spacers to them to make them like part of them and bolting it up as normal? Can I make the spacers out of aluminum? I don't have the extra pieces that lengthen the adapter on mine like this picture from 48 hour Corvette. click to enlarge. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psagowhgur.jpg I have a head ache after trying to word this so not to sound like I'm going in circles. |
Wayne I don't quite understand what you are trying to do but could you go to your local metal supply place and sort through their caster plates. Maybe you could find something close enough to start with

I understand I wrote it and I'm still confused! :hitaxeonthehead:
In the picture above you can see the way the Mac's pivot LS adapter bolt to the engine where the exhaust manifolds bolt to. I have to space that part 9/16" away from the head so I can clear my coil mounts on the valve cover. In this picture you can see where it hit the coil mount. Sorry for blurry pic. Click to enlarge pics. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pszyn6n5zu.jpg To get it to clear it needs a 9/16" or 5/8" spacer. Because I have to space out the bottom I need to space the top where it bolts to the spreader. So there would be a spacer here and where it bolts to the exhaust port. Please disregard the tape measure in the pic. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psped8dykf.jpg Not sure if this helps?? One other thing I thought of was blowing some holes in the upright where the coil mounts are, not sure if that would weaken it too much. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psw1bun0fq.jpg The faint pencil marks are drawn around the coil mount. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pswcdcpidq.jpg |
Wayne, it seems like you are spending way too much time on this instead of building your car. If it were me I would return it to Summit and get myself a couple of pieces of square tubing and four pieces of chain like I posted in your thread about engine lifts.
|
forgive me if I'm wrong, by why can't you just pull the valve covers and coils off?
