Man I had no idea I had been holding out on an update on this thread since last August. Time sure does fly.

We have been pretty busy on a lot of different levels. We got out paint booth up and running and have done pretty good job with the mid level paint work we have funneled through there to get used to having the booth in the shop.

We painted 3 Porsche GT3 cup cars for a Lemans team based out of a shop down the street from our shop.

http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...aint-prep2.jpg

We are knocking out a paint job for a local guy trying to build a pretty nice Chevelle in his garage. It's looking pretty nice. We are now color sanding and buffing the car.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...dyworked01.jpg

Our offroad racing program has been going pretty well. We have raced 2 BITD races and finished both events. Kyle Newman of Newman Car Creations has been co-driving and we are looking forward to running the MINT 400 in March.

We are the car at the top of the hill.

We are at the front of this pack.

The has been ton of fun. I found this old plumbing trailer on Craigslist and we did some mods to it and it works pretty good as a base camp pit vehicle.

The Ironworks Interior switch line has been doing quite well. Alot of high profile builds have used our switches. The Miranda Built Nova that won Street Machine of the Year had our switches.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...ltinterior.jpg

The Ring Brothers Recoil and Pantera projects had our switches also.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...-Recoil-42.jpg
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...Recoil-332.jpg
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...52-800x533.jpg

We have developed a new part to make the install much easier. Its always easier to drill a round hole but a square or rectangular hole can be tricky. So we Laser cut a plate that has all combinations of switches people order to cut this piece of steel out to welding to their dash. So far it makes things much easier.

http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...29-2014003.jpg
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...rs-prep-14.jpg

We are currently working on some billet bezel surrounds that we go around these switch distance layouts to add some more style to the whole package. And as you can see in the picture we have a brand new style switch cover that looks like the aircraft safety cover when painted or coated red.

For more info on the switches go to our website.

Yeah we have figured out the only way to get the grease to live in these cars is to REM polish the inside. It does wonders. now we just have to figure out the correct amount of grease so they don't want to burp the grease out under temperature. But have enough to keep the CV greased well enough.

Thanks. I will have another set for you guy here shortly.

The engine is stock. Just exhaust and a tuner. I could use alittle more power in some places. Mine will do 80 now and the some guys with built engine can do 84. But the places where you make up time is in the rough and keeping the car in one piece. We have had 1 flat in 325 miles and no belt issues.

There really is not much to gain in motor work in the 1000's. No a bored and built 900 will out run a 1000 as it is just a better design.

I sold that deal about 12 months ago. When our daughter was born I wanted to be involved in something I could see her "hopefully" getting into some day. I'm sure you realize Dirt track racing is not really the place you want to race a daughter. It not very family friendly. The off-road deal is more camping and family friendly. And the repairs are way less. You destroy some stuff dirt racing as I'm sure you know. I love the dirt racing deal but its just way to much work for me. Plus you get way more seat time in the desert racing.

I would love to build a super duper Hobby stock, but it would probably last until turn one.

So far so good.

Yes Sir. All the body work, prep, paint and buffing was done here. I'm pretty happy with the results for it being the 5th car from our booth. Its what we will call and entry level paint job here. My 2 main body guys have 20 year experience each. So its not their first rodeo. And I have some smart friends in the industry to call and ask questions.

ironworks 02-19-2015 02:05 PM

We made a few sets of the these wheel stands a few years ago for the shop and for shows to display our projects. It seems like everyone has wanted to but them. But they take 2/3 of a sheet of 4x8 steel to cut them out and weight 40-50 lbs each. So shipping them completely welded has been difficult and expensive. So I have been brain storming ways to cut the cost on these stands and make them more useful.

http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...14-2015007.jpg

http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...-7-2014001.jpg

So what I did on this latest design was take the Ironworks logo out of the cut to drop the cost a little for the length of time on the cutting. I then made some bigger openings for the stands to lighten the weight to cut down on the shipping cost. We are going to sell them unwelded so that shipping them is reasonable. But we also changed the base of the stands to accommodate a 15x15 " scale pad. So you can scale and adjust your cars suspension a little easier. The stands are made of .125 steel and interlock for easy fixturing during the weld process. The top plate will be formed to fit the top plate and everything can be welded from the inside for a clean final product.

http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...calesscale.jpg

Looks like retail pricing on these stands will be 140.00 each or 4 for 500 plus UPS shipping. I'm getting ready to cut my first batch and see how this goes with shipping and such.

Send me an Email if your interested. [email protected]

how about a bolt together version?

glassman 02-19-2015 09:19 PM

Yeah but ya gotta have the logo, how about just on the outside, or a little applique emblem on the outside. Ya gotta represent what pays the bills....and when people pay you for advertising for you....just "bingo"....

I have to agree with this. Would it really cost that much more to have the Ironworks logo in there? Maybe send a sticker with the stands and let the end user decide if they want to put them on there. It's a good source for advertising.

The paint jobs look great. Congrats on being able to expand into that area as well.

I agree with the advertisement part, but just trying to keep cost low on a part that is just expensive to produce for it being just a wheel stand.

Last weekends race in the Eastern Nevada Desert went very well. We finished the race in 7.5 hours with only on blown drive belt and a heavily damaged front skid plate that worked as a shovel for the last 80 miles of a 304 mile race. Now time to get back to work.

http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...tate%20300.jpg

The silt beds were pretty Knarly. There was maybe 40 miles of silt like this it seemed. Lots of loose loose dirt.

On 50's & 60's cars with side trim, what is the technique of installing the trim and or body work such that the body doesn't pull inward where at the trim bolts?

You spend time making the body straight only to install the trim and have it wavy around the mounting holes. Is there a way around this aside form not installing the trim?

Your making the trim way to tight. It just trim it only needs to not move.

I have seen this many of times. One thing I have done in the past is use large rubber washers approx. 1/8" thick and 1" in diameter, Follow up with stainless washer a little smaller in diameter and locknuts. Tighten just enough to load the rubber washer so it doesn't spin.

On another note....Looks killer Rodger! Nice for you guys to have it all under one roof. When are you going to start doing interior? :)
