You know what? I saw that very truck this morning and thought "damn that's ugly"! Charley send you the link?? I'd describe the color we're leaning to as a "medium" grey.... |
Quote:
I saw that truck last night and thought...eh, Weld will get it right. I've seen your houses and the way you dress. You've got style and pizzazz baby! |

So a bit unrelated but close enough in topic to mention. The first time I was in Sun Valley I fell in love with a Blue/Grey Sprinter that was in town, now everytime I see that color I think how good it'd look on an old car. Next time you're running around town I'm sure you'll see one, or five.
This is pulled from the web, the color really needs to be seen in person. |
The original 36-40 ford gray was much like machinery gray and has a completely different tone than sealer does. I think as a single stage it would look great using an original color. This 36 has had one partial repaint. The original color is about half shade darker.

Well I don't know about the "dress" part..... I gave away all my suits and ties years ago after selling the NYC business!! Now I'm Idaho hick.... and the t-shirt I had on yesterday had holes in the shoulder area from MIG weld splatter.... Smart on the number change..... LOL Quote:
Here's Charley being "nice" ---- "you know what you need?...... " LOL I'll probably have to call a decorator in to re-do the casita at his new place in Scottsdale.... I've heard that "early Mexican antique reproductions" burn well. Quote:
Those seem to be "THE" hot new camper "active lifestyle" rig! They're everywhere here! I even helped my buddy (he was the foreman on our house build here) build out his interior. Had to teach him how to weld and to cut metal --- he didn't understand warpage.... Damn wood builders! Funny -- he liked working with metal - but that was also in my shop! LOL ---- Loved the "take it over to the cold cut saw" --- and he's looking at me with squinted eyes that are asking "WHAT??!!" |
On the plus side of painting it that ****ty color if Greg decides he is gonna die again I will be able to buy it cheap.:twak:

Funny that I was looking for color ideas (Originally it was going to be 1957 Porsche Stone Grey).... and the 1940 Ford Pickup color of FOLKSTONE GRAY popped up.... but like the TEAL colors on restored GM 50's cars --- there's 700 shades of them - from light to dark. That particular original color - when you search for cars using it - runs from a light tan to a dark gray and everywhere in between. Mostly what I decided against -- was anything with a green/brown tone in it.... I want it a bit more modern.... "cleaner" if you will. The guys at the shop picked out several and had them there to look at and they had added some tint or whatever to make it "better" / or "worse" if you're name starts with a "C" like Crap or.... |
Glad it won't be a brown gray. I'm not a fan. I prefer blue grays. I know you'll get it right. Basher's right, you've got style!
|
Quote:
Basher just wants to marry into the family.... LOL As we all know --- there's about a zillion colors and about 8 zillion opinions. I don't care what color it would be -- some wouldn't like it.... some would.... somebody else doesn't like the wheels... or the motor choice.... or they'd want a stick. |

I really dig this one Dave Lane did for George P: https://i.pinimg.com/736x/ea/45/76/e...and-trucks.jpg |

Dave Lane has built some stellar cars.... You should have been a fly on the wall when I was with Roy Brizio at his personal collection -- and we discussed his gold '55 with the whitewalls.... LOL |

Xoxo Gray is gray, just don't take as long as that Curtis fella to get it sorted out.:peepwall: So you sat in the seat and checked the fit, are you still planning the same colors/tones with the new exterior color? You know any color will look good as long as it's black or red. |
We just shot a '51 Chevy in solid dark green with black fenders. Even with all the curves, solids look good too.

HAHAHAHAHAHA If I'd have died she'd be single!!! Curtis --- Paralysis by analysis.... I get how important color is.... but whatever someone chooses it has to be what they like, or love. I used to sell Brown Jordan patio furniture (wholesaler)----- and I used to tell the consumer that very thing when I'd do a "trunk show"..... just buy the set in the color that you want! As long as you do that - you'll love it. Buy the set the way your friends want - and you'll always be kicking yourself for not getting the one you wanted. If you want a red Corvette -- then get it! Don't buy a beige Chevelle! |

My 39 Chevy truck is green with black

I agree! ...and you want gray, so I don't see the problem. :D As fast as the work is going on this build now that you changed shops, parts of the truck may already be painted. :gitrdun: |

Greg, I love your truck, I live in Houston but I take a trip every other weekend to Austin to pick up my little girl for the weekend. I will have to stop by and visit the shop and see your truck. |
Quote:
Thank you! The shop is in ANDICE ---- they have a good website..... call to see if you can visit or you'll roll up and the gates will be closed and you won't be able to get anywhere near it. https://www.customsandhotrodsofandice.com/ |

Andy Leach built '30 Ford.
Non-metallic paint at its best. https://s20.postimg.org/x62owoeu5/IMG_0609.jpg https://s20.postimg.org/hfhm31vkt/IMG_0612.jpg https://s20.postimg.org/f4jjyvkt9/IMG_0610.jpg |
Damn that is slick!!
|
Wow gorgeous car .
|
Absolutely criminal the awards that car didn't win...
|
Absolutely stunning
|
Quote:
That should have won every award ever..... except AMBR... and that's an obvious reason. I've always thought the big awards - at any show - are a "who's who" and not based on who SHOULD have won. Let's take that Foose built Impala..... for example. |
^^^^ WOW that is pure SEX Skip!
|
That is crazy nice!!!

The late Bruce Leven's 1951 Ford...

Bruce Leven was a personal friend of mine for about 20 years.... he was an amazing man and lived one hell of a life.
Sadly -- we shared a couple things the last couple years. He was the one that talked me into having the truck built at Pinkee's..... and about a year or so ago was diagnosed with lung cancer. Yep -- he smoked about 3 packs a day.... For the last 6 months - we talked every other day or so.... sometimes late into the night... and given our death sentences - had much to discuss. Sadly -- only near the end (the last month) was he giving my method a try. But by this time - he was sick from the Chemo and the cancer was roaring. I will miss him dearly. And think about him daily. I had thought about doing the same exact grey as a tribute to him.... but it's too dark for the lines of the '40. So my gray is modified a bit. |
Greg,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us about your friend Bruce... |
Just watched this great tribute to Bruce Leven.

Greg,
How close is this to your color? https://s20.postimg.org/kmfdeaql9/IMG_0764.jpg (Just your everyday day garden variety 1942 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS Berlinetta) |

Thank you!! A further little "story" on my friend Bruce. It was "tradition" in the summer months - on Saturday afternoons - to head to Issaquah (iss sa kwa) to my buddies Triple X Root beer burger joint.... we could park in the lot next door because the business was closed on the weekends. There might be 6 cars - or 60.... and they came and went - but generally there was some friends there. We'd pull out our folding chairs and sit in the grass berms under the trees and BS for a bit. One day (as usual) Bruce rolls in... and comes over to join us. He ALWAYS drove something cool - and always drove something different... he had quite a few cars to choose from. It might be his killer Porsche - or an early suburban (converted to late model diesel of course!).... But this particular Saturday he didn't bring a chair. Marv and I offered up our chairs - but he wouldn't have it. He'd just sit in the grass. I reminded him that his ass would be wet when he got up, because it is - after all - the pacific northwest.... and the ground is usually moist. He didn't care - he lit up, and plopped down. Well -- 3 minutes into it - he jumps up and starts cursing (he cursed - A LOT) - why? Yeah.... because of course now he's soaked thru. And in his usual way ---- it was my fault.... Oh god we all got a good laugh. And then the stories flowed. He had lots of 'em. Here's the deal you guys will never understand. This is a man that raced at the highest levels - with the world's finest drivers.... he owned jets.... he owned LARGE yachts.... but... he was one of us. He cursed like a garbage man... his fingers were yellow from smoking.... He was just a hot rodder/car guy... and he LOVED it (coming out to the triple X) because he could be himself. We gave him no mercy - and he gave us none right back. I loved seeing him pull in, because it automatically meant we were going to have some good times. I've always thought that your "soul" is what you leave behind.... it's the memories that others have of you. That's what lives on. I will never forget the day he sat in the grass... and his reaction. That is a good memory of howling hysterically. The sad ones are of the last few conversations we had about life.... but the good ones prevail. They bring that melancholy smile to me even as my heart sags. It's my loss. He's gone, but it is those of us that are left behind that "feel" for him. In the end - we discussed our lives. How - in the end - it didn't matter one damn bit what you had.... you'd trade it all for more time. He lived well - he lived large... he did what he wanted and when he wanted... "It" was always going to happen to the other guy. It's very hard to explain unless you've lived it. |
