I'm looking forward to a completed car just like everyone else. What I'm not looking forward to is you changing your avatar. Please, for the children, keep the avatar. :patriot:

Car is looking great, you're crazy for keeping the front end on though.

Greg,

Take a big deep breathe and breath my friend!
Nothing to get excited about here!
It is only installing a engine , easy !

Not a big deal to install, now Curtis' second engine! LOL
Built the first one with 550 hp, but when he saw that LS7 setup sitting in my garage, he had to have it he said!
So looks like I will be building another engine for this car

Guess that I shouldn't mention that I am drilling a big hole in the smoothed firewall for the engine harness, LOL

Curtis is super excited to get going on the car as soon as it gets to my shop this weekend

Looking really good my friend! You have to be out of your mind excited. I remember those days.

I built mine the same way as you know. It's not ideal to fabricate after or lean over those pretty fenders, but you can execute well. Take your time and protect your car well. I used sheet plastic with towels on top, then fender covers where I was working. It lets you use the fenders for misc. things like bolts and wiring. It may be early for plastic over that paint. I like what the big shops do with the paper as well. I can honestly say I built mine without any scratches on the paint or extra holes, etc. You are putting a little dinky mouse over the fenders, I had to shoe horn that big block in there. Especially after I got the road race pan on it. It barely fit.

It will go quick now. Good luck getting anything else done. Apologize to your wife up front. ha

This has been great to watch.

Totally loving those stainless fasteners on the doors and fenders. Killer details! Did you say they're custom? I'm guessing, turned on a lathe, not cnc?

Yeah I'm excited. It'll be fun to work on and yes, protecting the finish is top priority. Jim says no plastic on the paint and Blake (Speedtech) warned against the paper. Jeff and I still have to build the engine and there is some work to do on the inside before we get to engine compartment. Not going to rush.

You just doubled your number of posts man! Slow down...you're making Greg Weld look bad. A buddy turned a bunch for a project he's working on and offered to make a few for me. Greatly appreciated and lucky that he would include me. My goal is to keep it simple and clean. I think the stainless adds to that vibe. Thanks for the positive reinforcement. I really am shooting from the hip on a lot of this.

No worries. She's kinda hard to replace.

Wish I could blow the front sheet metal off it and install everything. Just to flippin far to have Jim come out and align it all after we are done.

Curtis car looks fantastic... I am about two months behind you progress wise
Those fender bolts are fancy... where did you get um

:thankyou:

glassman 07-04-2017 07:59 AM

I'm with the "no bigge" crowd. Take your time, use two layers of moving quilts at each side/front, 6 total, ($90 bucks at Home depot) and two inch blue tape. Taped to the inner fender and under the painted outer fender. Keeping in mind, gappage may change once loads are applied...:BlahBlah: :BlahBlah:

But really all i know is righty tighty, lefty loosey.

You're in good hands. Pete does awesome work and he's good people. I dig the front valance on your car. The washers where part of a run a buddy did for a build he is doing. He was nice enough to do enough for me. Hope I don't need anymore.

That's the plan. It'll be slow going at times, but that's ok.

Looks like work has decided to keep me busy for the weekend. :bang: So I won't be able to make it out till next weekend to pick the car up.

since you changed to ls7, I assume your converting to wet sump so you dont have to find a place to mount the oil tank?

I think he already made a trip to the painters to mount the tank.

Had to pickup all the stainless trim and the rear bumper and haul them to SoCal to be refurbished and took the tank with me. Jim and I mocked it up and cut a hole in the passenger side inner fender, where the battery would normally be. I wish I could have used the stock tank as its brand new,,but it would have hung out the bottom of the car. I pretty much copied Scott G. And what he did on his 69 and used a setup from Peterson Fluid Systems that was designed by ATS back in the day.

Mike, I tried to convince him to let me convert it to a wet sump setup, prior to me assembling it, but no luck
Just more work and $$$ now

Vegas69 07-08-2017 08:43 AM

Good decision Curtis, I like it dry sump.

I've heard good and bad with wet sump ls7. Its better that it stays dry sump, just a lot of work to make it look clean.

Well....it'll blend in. The guys over at Dutchboys have done this a few times and I'm pretty much following their lead. It will tuck under the fender a bit.

It actually happened just before paint, but yeah a little project creep. Pretty sure that's the biggest evil with any project and time is our enemy. Waiting for something to be finished usually gives a person to much time to look into options. Or something new comes out. The longer the wait...the bigger the creep.

I've never really had a "plan" laid out for this. Seriously it's all :guns: shooting from the hip. The plan, if you could call it that, was originally to do a suspension/LS swap, add some wheels and and go have fun. :knock: One could say that the entire build has been project creep. Hey....so far it's working out pretty good. I know there will be a few things, but I'm not building a 2.5 million Camaro to try and win SMOY.

:relax:

A buddy had some made for a build he is doing and was nice enough to do some for me. The bolts are ARP. It's the washers that are custom. Wish I had 10 sets. Everyone seems to want them.

Funny story about Divers

Tyler Barmore was working for Tim setting up his new place in town and needed buying power for some sheet metal ducting, I got the call and was able to help them both out. Tim and his wife are some of the nicest people I've met and the Notchead products are pretty dang cool, really like how clean the line clamps are.

Curtis, tic toc, tic toc :)

Work has suddenly decided that they can't live without me...but only on weekends. Hopefully I can have it back here next weekend, but at this point who knows.

:EmoteClueless:

The good part about that is that Jim isn't killing himself out in the booth in the 100+ heat as much. That's rough! :lostmarbles:

He had the front and rear glass installed and has the trim on. Pretty stoked about that. Digging the way the trim fits.

LOL

Looking good Curtis!

By the way -- the Tyler that Basher mentions in his post - is the son of my long time buddy Pierre (AKA "Frenchie - he's Italian but his mother gave him a french name....).

I agree with Basher -- Diny (pronounced DEE NEE) and Tim are 100% first class folks. For those that don't recognize the shop -- they're the folks that built FERRAMBO -- the Red Rambler with the Ferrari engine and running gear... it won a BUNCH of stuff. A Ridler just to name one.... LOL

I guess I forgot the "hey Greg" Lol. Just thinking what a small world it is and how the car world is connected in the lil NW....I just got word that I'm on the guest list to go see the Mulholland Roadster next week in Bellevue, maybe he'll let me drive it!

As far as the trick washers...A quick search shows the options available, maybe not exactly the same but ya'll got options. I grabbed mine from Allstar.
