As always, the fab is looking great, Ron! Where did you source the blue exh. insulators?

Thanks!

57hemicuda 04-22-2018 04:26 AM

They came from Speedway Motors, if I remember right they are available in a couple colors

dontlifttoshift 04-22-2018 07:09 AM

The blue ones last the longest. Seriously.

The one time when high and tight on the cage was a bad thing. The engine is back so far, and the dash bar so tight, their was absolutely no room for wipers or linkage.

The AMX was originally equipped with vacuum wipers which was located about where the middle of the intake manifold is now.The engineering involved in making this happen was extensive. Used Fox body Mustang wiper motor because I thought it would be readily available, all the rest of the mechanism was custom. The park position was another challenge because the motor was designed for the PCM to park it.

A lot of work but the modern motor work way better then anything old.

Wipers done finally putting a firewall in it. a lot of little panels makes it super time consuming.

The real issue though is where am I going to cram a rear sway bar. Real estate is at such a premium, I fear its going to end up inside the car.

I find I spend half my time designing stuff that is faster, lighter, stronger, safer, etc ...

and the other half of my time making stuff fit!

I feel your pain Ron. :bang:

Closing large gaps make Mango happy. The bolt on body might have been a mistake. Way too time consuming, and it adds weight. Too late now, I'll have to finish.

Progress looks awesome, Ron! All of the paneling work is coming out super clean!

Too bad about the bolt on being heavier. I am trying more of a tab on body that will allow freedom during construction and then be permanent at the end of construction. This is my inspiration!

Mega fabrication, love the project. What are you using for headers? They show up around page 37 but didn't see where you made them or mention aquiring. Are they lower than the blowproof flange?

57hemicuda 06-14-2018 03:29 PM

The headers are Stainless Works C5 parts. Got them off the Vette Forum for $150 because someone cut the collector flange lip off which was cool with me. They are way higher then the blowproof flange. Because they are for a torque tube they run a little tight to the transmission. In this car that's perfect because of the space limitations.

Scratch 06-14-2018 07:22 PM

Thanks for the answer. High and tight is what I need for the same reasons you point out. Tried a set for a c6, they occupy the same space as the transmission needs to. Unfortunately didn't get a deal like you, my experiment was ordered from stainless works!

57hemicuda 06-15-2018 04:54 AM

I did end up having to notch the blowproof due to the tightness. If you look at the Weld/Sutton build on here, it looks like the collectors fell in right about the same location.

That looks like a winner to me! I've got a set ordered. Thanks for your help.

Looking good Ron !

57hemicuda 06-15-2018 12:04 PM

Speaking of looking good, picked up quarters today. I know they still had their long fins on there, and don't remotely fit the car yet, I still had to set one up there.

The glass work turned out phenomenal, I can't say a bad thing about them....... well except now I have to fit and install them.

Impatiently waiting for an update on this one! Any progress?

57hemicuda 08-06-2018 04:36 PM

Unfortunately I've decided that my new building to too jammed up. My 1942 WC53 Power Wagon SUV is in the building with flat tires and locked up brakes. I hate that I can't move it, so I just shortened the 1st Gen Dodge chassis its going to sit on, put the Dana 60's in it. I'll set the body, get rid of the old chassis, then get on the AMX.

Of course Aaron Oberle says I saw a squirrel

Whoa that Power Wagon is cool!

Please start a build thread, well when you aren't busy...

Thanks

I don't think this is the place, It will have EFI Hemi though

This is at one of the Marinas I frequent. With modern running gear these are great whatever rigs.

57hemicuda 12-21-2018 06:39 PM

I have one of those also, only mine has a 383 Road runner engine. Actually the AMC is slowly getting pecked at. Too many projects and obligations

$5000 Mustang Ron always has an answer! :guns:

Drive by wire Corvette pedal, it just came in, its in the back seat of Dawn's Jeep. I'd show it if I had it. Plenty of room as long as I wear ballot slippers.....I wish I would have moved the engine back another 12"

57hemicuda 07-30-2019 07:21 PM

Believe it or not, I actually got a chance to start working on this hot rod again, fitting the fiberglass quarters. Hoping it will jump start my interest again. Making all the mounting fins is tedious and boring, so maybe not.

Passenger side is pretty much done, drivers side is fitted, still have a few fins to install. For fiberglass this stuff is amazing, fit and finish wise

Very cool. The Ring brothers should see this design.

Is it done yet?

Looking great and forward progress is always a move in the right direction.
