Gregg,
You are one of the richest men out there. Not because of what you own, but because the friends you know and have known, and your love and respect for life. Keep it up, it's a rare quality! |
Quote:
True that, Chris! Thanks! Bruce and I had chats about what our lives were like, and the fact that we could die without regret. The bucket list was pretty "full".... It is your love of life that makes passing so hard. After all, you're going to miss doing more of it! But then again - you think - WTF - life has been good and it's been lived at full speed. |
That is an absolutely awesome way to think of it.
|
Greg,
Thanks for sharing about Mr Leven. I too saw the Jay Leno show about the shoebox Ford. I had never heard about Mr. Leven prior to that show and when Jay mentioned his name I googled it and didn't find anything ( spelled it wrong). I came here tonight, what a tribute... |
Ls3?
Love the truck, the color and the increase horsepower!

A couple minor updates on the old worn out pig......
The Crate LS3 is OUT ---- and a new Don Hardy 550hp LS is in....... Somewhere in there is a picture of modifying the gap between the bed and the cab..... it was just UGLY. Getting some billet trim on the nose....... https://lateral-g.net/forums/attachme...1&d=1508953947 https://lateral-g.net/forums/attachme...1&d=1508954249 https://lateral-g.net/forums/attachme...1&d=1508954249 PAINT COLOR --- NOT the interior color! https://lateral-g.net/forums/attachme...1&d=1508954249 Musical note amplification............ https://lateral-g.net/forums/attachme...1&d=1508954249 https://lateral-g.net/forums/attachme...1&d=1508954249 |
MMMmmmmm......Macintosh amplifiers. Even though they will be hidden away they match the truck perfectly !
|
McIntosh....sweet!! That's some top of the line, high quality ish right there fellers.
|
Great looking detail on the front of the bed, most will never know what's been done...perfect. Same goes for the bullnose, a "factory" appearing piece that just looks better. Will it still release the hood?
|
I like the custom touches to the bed. It's amazing how narrow that hood looks in the shot from the front.

I'd love to be able to see those needles dance -- but it won't happen.... but I'll still hear the quality! Quote:
Yes sir! Quote:
Thanks Dan --- No it will not operate the hood latch -- the hood latch is a modern version (shown in pictures in here somewhere) -- and it has a separate handle. That was the reason for eliminating - or being able to eliminate - the huge factory moldings and release for this slimer less garish garnish. LOL Quote:
The truck is SMALL ----- as in OMG..... and thanks! When I saw the crude factory bed "end" and the gap ---- I immediately said -- "okay, can we fix that please". |
The new mods are nice additions. Funny thing about 40's is how bad most front ends line up, fenders and hood. It takes some real work to get nice gaps there. The cab to bed is another one that in my eye has always needed some attention on this era truck, the mods being done are spot on.
Love the interior color with the exterior, they compliment each other perfectly. Rock on Greg! |

Thanks Glenn! You have no idea how much I've spent on METAL WORK to get this truck right.... I'm not a fan of "get it close and spread some bondo on it"..... There are so many compound curves to deal with. One of the biggest helps IMHO is to put these old clap traps on a real chassis that's stiff enough to hold those nice gaps when you start putting some real life road miles on. That's why I called Phil and Jeremy (The Roadster Shop) and ordered their chassis.... versus bandaging (boxing etc) the old stock chassis. Now it should drive nice and hold up to being a daily driver. |
And in a week when his short attention span kicks in I can buy it cheap and paint it.:peepwall:

You already have your Ford XP farm truck...... |
Love the color. i have been trying to talk people into Grey for years!!!
|
O_h_i_o
Being an Ohio State Buckeye fan, I'm diggin' the Scarlett & Grey!
|
Quote:
See --- people only look at the pictures ----- I AM NOT using the red/scarlet interior --- that was only a suggested color..... but in my head I see black and caramel or dark brown accents.... not red. |
That Gray with Scarlet interior is a great choice Greg:poke:
|
After meeting Harold and his crew (CHRA) during the Good-Guys Road Tour.......Greg is in good hands and probably doesn't even need to go there anymore till the car is finished and it will be completed with perfection without any shortcuts taken...............What a great experience meeting the Chapman Family...........Class all the way !!!!!

The beauty of moving the truck -- I got a FAR better shop -- and my daughter lives in Austin. Double trouble. Ken -- it's absolutely amazing how this shop has just plowed forward with not only the job at hand - but their ideas.... They totally grasp the fact that I want to daily drive the truck - but that I am also willing to do "practical" hot rod touches when they make sense. So far this experience has been equal to working with Roy Brizio on the '33. There is weekly real progress... great ideas... no excuses... and top quality workmanship. It should be a hoot taking it on the Hall of Fame Tour 2018.... and I'm going to plan to do one or maybe two more of those if Ed will promise to not let Charley sign up. LOL |
Can't wait to see the color on this thing Greg and watch how all of the fellers will regress and say how good and bad a$$ it looks after being a nonbeliever.
|
I told you that was a great color..............

Got to post a few more updates that Charley needs to approve before we can move forward......
OKAY --- let's get goin' !! LOL Remember the rear fenders that were so bad Pinkee's couldn't use them - so they instead mounted Fiberglass versions??? Yeah..... Well they're on the truck now..... https://lateral-g.net/forums/attachme...1&d=1510600583 We/They (CHRA) hid the coils -- and this is how they did the holes for the plug wires to come thru.... this is a closeup of the inner fender.... Gotta love little details - even if it's going to be a daily driver! https://lateral-g.net/forums/attachme...1&d=1510600583 This is the headlight trim chosen --- NOT the headlight! That is just a placeholder..... going to use blacked out Harley lights. I chose the standard trim ring (simple ring) over the DELUXE trim which is far larger..... https://lateral-g.net/forums/attachme...1&d=1510600856 Given the stance --- they thought they might have to "C" notch the chassis - but as it turns out - they just had to remount the upper shock. https://lateral-g.net/forums/attachme...1&d=1510600964 |
Th 39 headlight rings are so much better than 40.
I have never not notched the rear of a 35-40 frame and nobody in the history of hot rodding has ever said "That extra inch and a half of rear suspension travel sure does suck." |
Quote:
They were going to notch the Roadster Shop chassis --- then did some work and found it didn't need it to get full travel and the ride height where it sits. |
It's looking good Greg. I couldn't make a body panel straight with filler and paint they make it look perfect in bare steel. Very Nice work.
|
Glad to see some REAL rear fenders on the truck Greg. It deserves it.
Awesome build sir! |
Quote:
More proof you chose the right shop this time around. The rear fenders look just right for the build and I love where this is going. It's even more cool that you actually want to drive it all the time. :) |

Updates ??????

Hasn't really been any work done that is worth the pictures..... it's in that stage of pulling the motor -- it went to Don Hardy Race engines for to get upgraded (to 550hp).... and there's some clean up of where the old seams were (open em up and bring up to quality)... tweaks to what's already been done but needs more work before bodywork. Mounts of various items such as seat belts and stereo parts and pieces (those HUGE McIntosh amps I sent them).... Glass was ordered so that's been being fit in the doors etc.... the tail pan is being built... So basically - it's in that unexciting stage of disassembly and fit and tweak vs big changes. It's marching forward to be sure! I love this shop! They just are heads down pushing forward.... none of this "builder BS" of sitting on their hands, yet needing more funds!! |
Can't wait to see this one Greg.
|
Yep !!!!........Harold is a great guy that "Get's" it !!!!!!!!You are in good hands !!!
