I don't think Budnik does 3 piece that I'm aware of. I'm sure Jay from Budnik (SWAIN) will chime later this morning.

A while back we had talked about doing are own one off wheels, well when we started fitting up the wheels on the car, we figured out that the backspace numbers were a lot less then a ideal for our wheel design and with our mono block idea for the wheels they would end up massive to machine, be very heavy and just not ideal to put on this car. Plus I felt that designing a one off set might be counter productive to the goal with this build. We wanted to assemble a car with Quality aftermarket parts that are commonly available for some one with some fab and design talent to assemble in the garage. We are trying to have above average results with bolt on parts. Granted we are doing a few things above and beyond, but there is no heavy duty chassis fab work or tons of engineering that we typically do on alot of our projects. The most intensive fab work done on this car is the rollcage, which was pre-bent, the interior panels that we have been replacing, and the bolt in window flanges for the lexan windows. The only thing above average is probably the cost of the parts, we have gone over budget on that for sure. But I think the results have been good so far.

So there you go a 20 minute answer for your simple question. I just wanted to explain why we made the change in the build. Enjoy

Is there a better way to do the blackout when mounting this way ? I see race cars all the time with black applied to the steel and not the lexan that will (I'm not sure what you call the effect) high gloss in the stress area(s) against the clear lexan and looks bad. Should you paint both - the flange and the lexan with color, and/or is there some other gaskets or other process that works ?

PS, how about a 'tri-wing' screw instead of an allen style. We used them on L1011 aircraft and they are over-torque reduction fasteners. I'll see if I can find a pic - or get some from the basement stockpile.

It is set up for #10 screws, see what you have for a recessed pan head. If you scuff up the lexan the black paint will stick to the back side.

Jim, do you have a big box of those? That would be slick.

I'll have to check and see. I have jars full of that stuff - but might not have enough of the 10's or in the recessed pan head version.

Alcoa makes them in steel:

I also found them in stainless at Crouch Sales Inc.

Neither come in black that I've found yet.

Doom,

These wheels are 2 Piece. Maybe sometime in the near future we will get into 3 Piece. Can't wait to see them with the black lip.

The stainless would be cool. If we brushed the heads of the bolts it would match the steering wheel and horn button and other odds and ends.

I was thinking about something like these.
