Very nice Brian

Just got back from the SCCA Solo National Championship in Lincoln, Nebraska. Mike Maier won our class in his 1992 Mustang and I finished 2nd. We had 39 competitors from around the country. CP is the best class in SCCA and everyone had a great time.

Now that I am back, the slicks come off and the street tires back on. There is about two good months of some local car shows and get togethers. Then off to SEMA.

Here is some photos from this past week.

My Dad, Steve.

Historic 2 Gen Camaro IMO, I hope to see it in person someday.

Good stuff Brian!! Hey! And Mike too!

Tell Dad I say hi!

See you guys at SEMA...

Very well done Brian, superb finish for the car's first time to the big show. Was checking your times will helping out my buddy in BSP on the opposite course - looks like you had some scratch times on day 1 that would've put you right there. Keep at it, you'll be giving Mikie a run for his $ in no time!

Jason,

I could not keep it clean the first two runs each day. Both days third runs were just to keep 2nd. I chose to try to stay close and give myself a shot on the second day. Mike pulled out a killer run on his third run on the first day. From that point, it was all about getting 2nd. My scratch 2nd run was actually better than Mikes on the first day. Mike drove very fast and clean both days.

The great thing about living in the same area as Maier, I get to compete against him, the 5 time champ, all the time.

Thanks,
Brian

Its funny Brian, with the Wilwood wrap it almost looks like a normal second gen. Until you see that pic running down the side of the car, and then WOW is that thing wide. Love the car, Ron

That video was incredible!!!! :wow: Congratulations for you and mike:thumbsup:
Did many people get lost on the track early? One of my problems :)

73CPCAMARO 10-13-2012 03:15 PM

Just a few weeks away from SEMA and OUSCI! Street tires are back on and I have been doing some final testing and adjustments. Going to Thunderhill for one more track day to get me and the car up to speed. This year I changed a few things to improve the car. The car should be better in all 4 categories. See you guys in Las Vegas!

73CPCAMARO 10-22-2012 12:30 PM

Went to Thunderhill last Friday for the last practice before OUSCI. I have made some small changes since last time out and they seemed to work out good. I was able to run 2:03's with no traffic and a couple 2:02's. Between the car and me getting better, I have shaved off 4 seconds since last time out. I did not want to damage the car this close to SEMA and OUSCI, so I only drove about 9/10's.

On the second video at the 6:00 mark, check out the near miss collision with a guy trying to get out of my way. He dropped the right side off the track and almost went into me while I was going about 100 mph. Needless to say, I just about **** my pants when this happened.

GregWeld 10-22-2012 12:51 PM

The late model Mustang is Charley's buddy Jack Mauer... and he's also the guy that built my Mustang. That was too close for comfort! Wow!

Nice runs by the way....

See ya in a couple weeks!

I met him prior to this and he is a really nice guy. He tried to move over and be nice. It was just a bit scary for both of us.

Brian, do you run out of gear on the front stretch if pushing it?

I was hitting the limiter just at the end of the straight on a a good run. That is about 142 mph. If I was running a sticky tire, I would not make it. Coming off turn 15 is a bit scary with the street tires. I roll off the corner in 3rd and squeeze it to the floor once it is straight. I lift off the throttle between the end of the pit wall and the start finish line. I could go a bit deeper, but not worth it for me at this point. With sticky tires, I would come off 15 much harder and go into 1 deeper. I would need a 150+ final gear.

chetly 10-22-2012 04:59 PM

I wonder if your car would be any faster if you ditched the 19/20's Pilots and went with the Kumho Excta XS in 315/35/18 all around...

Especially for the auto-x

nevermind, to short and 180 tread wear

Vegas69 10-22-2012 05:03 PM

Good luck this year Brian.

Flash68 10-22-2012 08:31 PM

Love these vids. Lookin good and lots left in her. :unibrow:

Yeah Jack is a great guy and it's a shame that Weld got a hold of that car... look what he did to it last time out.

and ditto -- good luck Brian. I'd love to see you pull out a win over those other guys next month.

Probably already mentioned, or just already known. But even though Ive read most of the thread, I never saw it.

I LOVE this car. Incredible build, thanks for sharing. A lot of really nice work and really nice ideas and a good vision came together perfectly.

But I was watching youtube and.... Is this you at 1:12-1:15?

Awesome news! Did Danny have an incident or was he just out-gunned?

Flash68 11-04-2012 10:10 AM

Congrats Brian. Heard you ripped it up on the road course especially.

Heard there was a DNF of some kind.

We watched something pretty big fly out from underneath Danny's car at the end of the back straight then he coasted off the track. :(

I think Brian was fastest on the big course.

sik68 11-04-2012 03:06 PM

I clocked Brian fast lap at 1:46.2, and several other guys with watches had you within a tenth of that. First lap was fastest in both of his runs from what I was clocking.

Fun watching you on the Autox as well! Stielow 40.5, Hobaugh 40.7, Popp 40.9 if I recall?

73CPCAMARO 11-05-2012 02:01 PM

Thank you to everyone that has supported me. I had a great time SEMA week and at the OUSCI. With the help of so many people, I was able to finish 2nd, and just behind one of the best cars ever built, Mark Stielow's Mayhem. It is an honor to be mentioned in the same company as Mark and his car.

I had an incredible time meeting more of you guys from this forum and the other one in person. Seeing the cars and people up close and personal is one of the big highlights for me.

OUSCI 2012 was another great event. Each year it gets bigger and better. I am very lucky to have been a part of this event the last two years. I can only hope I will be able to do it again in either this car or another.

I told Jimi and Cam that whoevers idea it was to have the umbrella girls needs big props. Best idea of them all!
