My goal is to meet up with Gaetano at a Thunderhill event in July or Aug for some shaking down. :woot:

Don't forget the intimidation factor of the proper valve cover decal. They'll never know what hit'em.

I have found my engine builder and the guy is legit and local to me (Gilroy is not very local to me -- it's just where my car lives ).

My new engine build has commenced... and I'll be posting details soon.

Another BBQ needs to happen soon at RTC I agree!

Well that's good to hear can't wait to see what the next few months bring!

Haha - go easy on Justin guys... he is the guy who sold me this beast of a car and got me started with a great foundation.

You didn't miss anything Justin -- I haven't let the cat out of the bag yet -- details still being finalized and parts accumulated.

Well after a successful RTTC for me personally and the car, we are even happier and shocked at just how bad the motor was effed up on day 2... we knew it wasn't good but the final score was this:

4 broken pistons
3 bent valves

I'll just let these pictures do the rest of the talking.

The block is actually in decent shape and was only bored .020 over so it's good life left for someone, just not me. Will be figuring out what parts are for sale and what might be reused (if any).

I'll just say I don't plan on being "underpowered" with this next motor. :woot:

intocarss 04-06-2012 12:50 AM

Sorry that happen. It looks like a nitrous eng gone wrong.

Vegas69 04-06-2012 06:57 AM

Nice work Gordon:D Your tune had to be way off to break that many pistons. My guess is your nascar exhaust caused your engine to go lean and that was your overheating issues. The decibel level kept you from hearing the extreme pinging noise. ha ha The piston debris bent the valves. It's a miracle that you didn't spread that thing all over El Toro.

fleet 04-06-2012 07:11 AM

DETECTIVE: Whoever did this didn't just dismantle it. I mean, they took their time, they had fun. They were very systematic. They went out of their way to gouge the sides of every piston, and the turbo was separated from the housing and shoved right up the exhaust pipe.

ELAINE: Uhh

JERRY: Wait a second. Turbo? I didn't have a turbo.

DETECTIVE: Your car's not a turbo?

JERRY: No, it's a nine-hundred S. (happy) It's a turbo, Elaine, a turbo!

ELAINE: (sobbing happiness) It's a tu-hur-bo.

torino420 04-06-2012 07:12 AM

wow...nice carnage! :willy:

Sieg 04-06-2012 09:38 AM

Nice work Dave! How are the heads and are they going on the new motor?

FWIW - Todd's assessment sounds about right.

GregWeld 04-06-2012 10:02 AM

Fire the tuner dude!

Chad-1stGen 04-06-2012 11:45 AM

Whoa!!! I'm with Todd, how did you not grenade that thing all over El Toro's track lol?

I'm sure it was disappointing to to see the carnage when you started disassembling that thing Dave. Good luck on scrounging parts for the new build!

Dave had his builder already started on the new power plant before this happened. "Well that's what you get for building a new motor" says Todd.

intocarss 04-06-2012 12:04 PM

How much total timing did you have and what gas? Kinda hard to tell in the pics, that lil half moon shiny area in the valve pockets is where the valves were hitting

Flash68 04-06-2012 12:12 PM

Yep, good stuff!

Didn't think about the boom tube causing a lean condition but that makes sense. We shoulda thrown some race gas mix in the tank like we do at track days, but then then it wouldn't be a "street car" for RTTC.

In all seriousness, it was not too bad of a result. And I knew I was on borrowed time for awhile. We hoped the pistons were the only real damage and the heads are being disassembled/inspected now but besides the valves didn't look too bad.

I need to decide whether to sell the parts individually or throw the motor back together and sell as a long block. The new motor will only use some of the accessories of this motor - all key parts/internals will be new/different/slightly used stuff.

And the new motor will be built and tuned on the dyno by a PROFESSIONAL.

So the new engine builder has a Dino as well, we need more clues, lol and I'm sure I could find some use for those internal parts should you decide to sell in pieces.:)

Dyno and the works. It's a bad ass shop I assure you. I am supposed to go there Tues and I'll shoot some pics and get details.

I am in contract to buy a house so that has the priority at the moment.

What parts are you looking for?

DFRESH 04-08-2012 09:24 AM

It's time for a Procharger---totally practical and necessary.

Call me and let me know about the house--that's great news!

D parts hoarder FRESH, tier 13.

Yeah congrats on the house! Does that mean BMF will be finding a new home too? Are you keeping the heads and valve train for the new motor.
Thanks Shane,
