We got the top part of the latch in place and are lining the bottom up to find the final location. We'll set and mount it.
Here's the starting location. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psiglnlioo.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psu9onqvtj.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psugokodw8.jpg I tried to clearance the top holes on the radiator side to move the plate to the drivers side but it threw off the front piece that bolts to the header panel. Thank god for finish washers. |

Great to see progress Wayne...going to be awesome!

Looking good Wayne!
|
Thank you guys, feels great finally getting at it. Now the problem is finding all the parts I've been moving al around for all these years.
|
Good to see things moving forward, Wayne. Good idea on the latch placement. Best wishes!

We've been working on the car a few hours a day we installed the RS doors to figure if it would interfere with the intercooler reservoir. I'm going to put it right behind the passenger headlight in the same place Travis (Snappytravis) put his. I had been thinking about putting it there and seeing how nice his is, it was definitely a go.
We made a platform to mount the tank out of aluminum and bolted it in.It will have a piece in the back for a tab to slide into and be bolted 2 or 3 places in the front and be covered with some type of rubber to prevent chafing the tank. Here's a quick shot of the platform test fit. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psiqndidat.jpg We removed the factory balancer and are replacing it with an ATI super dampener. If you guys want a Harmonic dampener check out ATI blems on E Bay, instead of the $465 I got one for $269 for my LSA,it doesn't come with the super charger pulley blem or not. If I had to find the blem on it to save my life the wife could sell the car because I would never find it........ The bolt came right out with my impact wrench. The problem was getting t he balancer off. We tried with a 3 jaw puller we had, no dice, then I went for an AutoZone loaner, wrong one back again, Then we got another one from AutoZone and it finally got it to move. About 3/16 of an inch, we had to go back to the first puller to finish taking it off, but the loaner was the only thing to get it to break loose. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psyvtbayfo.jpg And finally in place ready to be put on. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psmxteqnfo.jpg We also tried the Front accessory drive on for fit. I don't have the A/C compressor yet so that test will have to wait. The throttle body is a ported one from V Max in Florida. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psvo6vq6sg.jpg And something else that will help the build continue. HEAT! No more frost bite on the bootie! http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pscwu6mfly.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps6frzouue.jpg Of course its been in the 70's, the heater must have scared the cold away! |
Wayne ... nice progress, did GM use thread locker on the OEM?
Nice to see the heater, someday I'll get one! Hey guess what the LOW is gonna be here tonight? between 17 and 20 degrees Fahrenheit, yep that's dang cold!!!! Keep warm ... |
Thanks Chief! They did on the bolt the impact took care of that. First time I used it. When it goes back on ARP says to use red thread locker. That's strong stuff. The balancer itself was a bear to get off.
When we tried to fire the heat up I had just finished wiring the breaker in the box and tested the GFCI on it. We turned it on and nothing OH CRAP! the heater was in my cellar for 3 years I figured something went wrong, but luckily it was just flip the breaker. |
Good to see you making progress Wayne. It's been a long haul but your getting near
|
Heat! Oh so important! Now you can work all winter on it! Nice!
Still need to insulate and drywall? |
Yes, I'm looking forward to not running for propane when my wife wants me to cook on the grill because I used it all in the garage.! Yes Tony I need to get some type of ceiling up so I can get in touch with the foam insulation guy I met. He gave me a price but it was over a year ago. I hope it didn't go up too much it was a good deal and it was fire proof foam. If you lived on the east coast you could make some extra cash to spend on the Camaro. lol
How's the family and that Chevy dependent doing? |
Heat and insulation are a good add in ANYONES shop space!!!
It's 13* here this morning (gotta love mountain living!). |
The heater's been on hold in the cellar for 3 years, I'm so glad it's finally in. Trying to decide if I'm going to use sheetrock or solid aluminum soffit for a ceiling. I think the soffit I can install (12'x16" sheets) but the sheetrock would be tough for me alone with the car and everything else that's in the garage. Cost will help with the decision.
At least I don't have to listen to the propane heater screaming while I work. |

Yesterday we installed the Hamburger remote oil filter mount on the frame right behind the radiator. I will be running the -12 oil lines to the filter then to the in radiator oil cooler and back when I make my order for my hose and fitting, soon I hope.
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psl3yp8lgl.jpg The next thing to try and stuff in there is the trans cooler in the white box in the bottom of the picture. We tried to mount the intercooler pump but it didn't work out too well, the hose that goes to the heat exchanger was going to interfere with the radiator so we're moving the bracket. Last week I installed the DBW pedal using the GM factory bracket that came with the controller and the DSE mount. It looks good, Thanks icemanrd19 for the pictures. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pswvrsgaal.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pswr9zrt5v.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pskfi7sc6m.jpg |

Thanks.
I've been looking on Craig's list for some rollers for when they do the paint and body work. I saw these BMW 7 series close to home and figured they could be used then sold when I'm done with them. ( They may have antique status by then. ) I brought one in and tried it on for size. It fit right on and barely cleared the Z51 brakes. I had to knock the weights off. They'll work fine and look stylish doing it. LOL ! http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pszqnprrpo.jpg |
great progress Wayne!!!!
|
Lookin good man! Keep up the progress!
|
The little engine that could! Keep plugging along.... the progress looks great!
:ups: LOL |
Not much progress this week, we had to move the remote oil filter because of my mistake. The fitting for the oil cooler stuck out further than I remembered and the mount had no room for the fitting. we made a bracket to mount it on the front bar Mike installed to replace the smaller front cross member on the sub frame, then made a bracket for the intercooler pump. I have no welder so everything has to go to Spaceman's house to be welded. There's more room than appears to be.
(Heavy little sucker) http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psl3oyifat.jpg The remote oil filter from here http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psl3yp8lgl.jpg To here. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pssbrqi0b2.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psbxwsmli7.jpg Brackets will be cleaned up and either painted or powder coated. I picked up some air tools for the garage to make this easier. A MATCO TOOLS MT4880 .75HP STRAIGHT DIE GRINDER . http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psutspwfk0.jpg A MATCO TOOLS (MT2883) .50 HP Variable-Speed Right Angle Die Grinder . http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psjkva6avj.jpg A MATCO SE430K Silver Eagle Mini DA Sander Kit http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psroyfqejl.jpg All used but in great shape. |
I also got the spacers I needed to put the BMW wheels on the back so now I'm all set for rollers to move the car. with my rear width I used 2" spacers.

Looking good Wayne...
Little by little. Good to see wheels on it. Nice choice of small hand tools, they will come in handy. One thing to add to the die grinder is several carbide grinding burrs, you will find them very handy for opening up little areas. :weld: |

Wayne ... looking good! Must not be too cold there yet, it's been down right cold here!
Question: I see your remote oil filter mounted and all, are you gonna install valves inline so you can check the filter without dumping all the oil? Michael |
Chief I hadn't thought about when I change the oil, I'll be checking on that tomorrow. I think a valve would be the best so as not to reduce flow.
Thanks. |
Keep at it Wayne! Lookin good man....:gitrdun:
Always nice to see wheels on there even if they aren't gonna stay. |

I haven't checked in for a while, took a couple of month break from car stuff. You're make great progress!

Thanks guys! Appreciate the encouragement.

No progress on the car because of a terrible December and January plus sinus surgery so no bending or laying on the floor. But I did get my intercooler tank made to fit behind the passenger head light and some parts for the intercooler plumbing. The lid fits right between the fender and the radiator to fender bracket.
Here's the tank it holds 3.5 gal. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pstzswvm24.jpg This is the fill I will use up near the supercharger. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psaozoezui.jpg I got these fittings for my hydraboost. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psx9hgohyx.jpg These are to plumb the trans cooler for the 4l85. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psuepa3cqv.jpg This is to drop the rear hose fitting on my oil cooler line so it can run one hose above the other along the oil pan. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psx4pw69rr.jpg |
Wayne - other than the colon resection surgery I had done (TWICE - because the first was an epic fail) -- SINUS surgery (mine was 6 and a half hours of it) was absolutely the most miserable thing I ever had done! Sorry to hear you had to suffer this inglorious mess too.
Car parts look terrific!! |
Thanks Greg, it's tough to describe when someone asks what it's like. Well on my way got my stitches out today and already breathing better. I told the doctor while he was pulling the gauze out, I thought he was pulling the hair on my legs with it!
|
Nice stuff Wayne, gonna look really good in there.

And the parts look great! You will be back out there soon enough! |

Little update on some small progress. We made up some brackets and got the trans cooler mounted. I started to clean them up and ready to be coated. I also finished the mounting platform for the intercooler reservoir, I had the basic set up, but now I have the mounts figured out.
I also got word that my XRP fittings and hose are on their way and should be here on Thursday. BUT ! I leave Friday morning to go to Portsmouth Va. to check out houses for my daughter and her family. My son in law is in the Navy and being stationed there to work at the hospital (corpsman) but can't get time off from where he's at now to go see the houses before his transfer in April. Which I will be driving from San Antonio Tx to Va. with them driving one of their trucks while they drive the other one. I've done almost as many miles for his enlistment as they have lol. I had a great time driving from Mass. to Tx. with my grandson and daughter last August to get them there. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psntwamur3.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psol2ozauh.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psbfyx9txy.jpg I need to glue a piece of Neoprene rubber to my intercooler mount to protect the tank, any suggestion's on which spray glue to use 3M super 77 ? The tank shouldn't be that hot. |
