Greg,

I was planning on trying to come visit you at the track tomorrow, limited time I know. Hope to see ya in the morning.

Excellent Mike! If we're not on the track we'll be sitting on our butts talking smack and ragging on Charley.

We'll be parked as a group at the far end of the paddock from the entrance.

Hey Greg, I don't mean to butt in, but what heads might they be? Reason I ask is I would like to see some more power out of my 388 and right now I am head limited with my Iron Eagle 200s. I'm tentatively keeping my eyes open for any extra info/wisdom I can come across regarding heads for my engine.

Good luck out on track!

I'm running a 408 inch stroker with 180 Dart Aluminum heads - making 525 hp and 481 tq IIRC....

The heads we're referring to are a set of 190 AFR Aluminum heads -- ported etc... and they'll be fine on a 350 ci motor.

I used my Canfield 220cc heads on a BLOWN 383 - made 625 hp and 581 tq on the dyno...

Heads all depend on camshaft - cam - compression - etc and what RPMS you want to make power at. 200's won't have much bottom end.

My brother in laws Blown 383 on the dyno with my old Canfield 220cc heads and very mild blower cam.

All it really has right now is bottom end, it made 310whp at 5500 with an RPM Gap and a Comp 268 cam. The heads are about 10-12 years old so they are the older style casting from what I understand.

Thanks for the dyno sheets, I'm surprised to see an engine as big as your 406 with 180 heads; I guess they flowed well enough though!

A motor - as you know - is all about the TOTAL COMBO of parts.... and the stated goal.

I wanted a very torquey STREET ROD motor for a heavy car - The Nomad - which weighs in at over 4000 #'s..... has an automatic - and I wanted a fun to drive motor with some power. This motor kicks azz.... puts your butt hard in the seat at very low rpms and pulls like a freight train until you lift. But idles well and keeps the A/C humming...

It's FAR superior to the 427 SBC with the big 220cc Canfield heads that was in it before. As in night and day.

Thanks Greg.

..and remember, NO POINT-BYS!!!

GregWeld 04-28-2012 06:41 PM

I ran red group today --- no point bys were given by me!

2:12.04 (we use turn 5) was my best lap time during one session. I was too stupid to get the Gtech thingy magingy working correctly - but finally got it to work and clock the laps.

I let Gwen run the car -- but it's too much car for her....

She got to ride along in a Miata with one of the guys that runs here all the time --- and sadly -- in Red group -- I lapped them. :D
