This is what an original 57 Eldorado air cleaner housing looks like-
http://imageshack.us/a/img811/8967/d7lz.jpg What I'm building won't be an exact copy but it will be built in that style. (The overall dimensions are exactly the same as original). Where the oil bath pods originally were on both sides will now be throttle bodies. I'll start on the top next. Have to order the chrome "V" as well. http://imageshack.us/a/img69/1083/2cry.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img842/2782/woxs.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img191/852/10b6.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img689/6425/euna.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img89/4493/2mkm.jpg |

Thanks guys!
I did some more work on it and ordered the chrome "V" and star nuts. (still not sure if I will put the star nuts on it as I think it looks pretty clean as-is). Just looking at pics of the original it seemed to peak in the middle but then the entire thing canted back behind the "V". This is just .190 aluminum so I'm not going to try to put a bunch of curves into it but I still made the top out of 2 pieces to somewhat emulate the original. I'm thinking at this point I will do the engine in the original colors. (Gold batwing and valve covers, everything else dark blue). http://imageshack.us/a/img856/9287/g66z.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img577/4517/wjhe.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img819/3178/6195.jpg |
Nice work!
So you may have said this before -- but obviously you've got a couple holes for intake air... What's the plan there? Canisters of some kind ala the original?? |
Thanks Greg.
I have 2 Chevy Cobalt throttle bodies that will go there. I'm having a friend who owns a machine shop make me some 1/2" thick flanges with the throttle body pattern on one side and 4" round on the other side with an internal bell mouth. From there I'm not entirely sure yet. I considered making some shrouds to cover the throttle bodies that look like the pods but wanted to see what it looked like first. |
