Keep the updates coming!! Its getting closer and closer!!:gitrdun:
|
I'm doin my best to shake my butt and get it in gear!
Paint for you this week Mario ?? |
.Wayne looks like your making progress. i am pulling for you to get this thing on the road this summer! as for that pad you want to glue on don't use 3m 77 spray adhesive for that you can use 3m super 90 spray adhesive it holds up to humidity better or 3m trim adhesive it comes in small tubes you might even get is at menards.
|
Looking top shelf Wayne...
GET R DONE! You both need to be on the road this summer! :D |
Thanks guys! Eric I'll pick some of the super 90 up thanks for the info.
Yesterday was a productive day. My AN fittings and hose came in and today a couple of other parts came in too. When I get home from Virginia Sunday I'll crack open the boxes to see what came in. Then Monday I'll try to get to some plumbing. Thanks Al Moreno , G5 and Morenomotorsports for all your help and support. |
Well I went out to the car the other day and thought something was missing!
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pssv8kovln.jpg The motor had to come out to notch the sub frame for the A/C compressor. So here we go. The motor came out easily, we put it on the engine stand so we could do some work on the remote oil filter lines. a 90 degree fitting had to be screwed into this aluminum adapter. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pswt8lhu1h.jpg I was going to use two straight fittings one short and one long and 90 off them forward to the oil cooler, but the way the AutoKraft pan kicks out and how close my headers are to the oil pan it wouldn't work. I picked up a tight 90 degree ORB to AN fitting to use for the front hose, but of course it can't go in because the oil out let is too close to the base pan to spin the 90 degree fitting so off came the adapter. The inside of the oil passages on the adapter had very sharp edges so while its off My buddy (Spaceman) is cleanig them up for better flow. The base pan I bought was used and the previous owner had it powder coated. When he did they left the spot where the O Rings seat bare, which made the O Rings probably not able to seal it up because of the thickness of the powder coating around them. Not good on an oil line. So while Spaceman was cleaning up the sharp edges I striped the powder coat off the oil pan rail while not letting any grit or crap get in the oil passages. It kept me busy for quite a while. The discolor around the oil passages is where there was no powder coating. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psxvuki3dk.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pspgnxcvr1.jpg And ready to reinstall the adapter. I removed all the coating where the adapter would make contact so the O Rings would get the proper pressure for sealing. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps6cts4qdz.jpg Now this part is ready to complete. |
Now on to the Frame notch.
We geusstamted on where we would need to cut the notch with some tape. then we removed the engine. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psleiyltob.jpg I then put the A/C bracket and compressor ( which got ordered the day we took the engine out.) on the motor to try and see how we did with the tape. Next was to brake out the air tools! We made some cuts. Big cuts!! First cut. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psec5ueirc.jpg Need more Second cut http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psnfmhmtvj.jpg Needed more Final cuts http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psnkcxieea.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psleiyltob.jpg The small opening over the lower control arm will be filled in with 1/8"-3/16" plate, then the finish pocket for the A/C will be made in the same material. That's where we stand right now . |
Progress is good Waynie, looks good:thumbsup:
|
Those all important details that take plenty of time and rack your nerves a little. Your guesstamation was right on Wayne. Looks very sound bud:cool:
|
Fun stuff Wayne!! Looks great, like every great build, ya gotta start with a good foundation...in with the engine, out with the engine, in with the engine, out with the engine....never ends lol....anyways, cheers from the golden and broke state..good luck with the remaining "easy stuff"....
|
All that cutting just to tighten that lower control arm nut huh? :slingshot:
|
Thanks guys! It's good to have something that shows progress. AJ that bolt being loose was a surprise to see for sure, the other side was the same. No matter how good you think the person who did the work is something could get missed, and in this case it wouldn't be good!
|
Haven't been around much Wayne! Looking fantastic! Can't wait to see it done!
|
Thanks Chad.

Those 7 series wheels look really good on your car! We like outside-of-the-box ideas like that.

:popcorn2: :D Hurry!

Well my buddy that helps me pulled something in is neck and been out of action for over a week so I'm doing small stuff until we can get his welder down here to finish the frame notch.
I made up some braided hose for the steam line which will go to the Finch hose reducer. I'll make the final hose once I can measure it when the motor is back in the car. Boy it's a tight squeeze going between the Super charger and the water pump, But I got it in. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pslzq6uwve.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pskxcqgged.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psfneagwbm.jpg The only thing is in the last picture the hose is just about touching the water pump so I'll need to put something to protect the hose. (if I can get it in there.) |
So my buddy cleaned up the inside of the Canton remote oil filter adapter and brought it back to the garage so I could install it. I installed the XRP close 90% ORB fitting in the front opening, went in fine. Then I tried to put the Aeroflow long ORB to AN fitting in, it bottomed out before the O ring was even close so I trimmed the threads on the fitting. I took off 2-3 threads and tried it, no dice! Now I'm wondering how many threads I can safely take off to make this fit. I took annother 1-2 threads and was very close but still not there. My nephew came by and we were talking and he mentioned his broeter in law was a machinest. He said he would check it out. He took it to him and he said there was plenty of threads so he tapped the thread a little deeper in the adapter and installed the fitting. Shortening the threads made the fitting dead end in the opening where it would impeed the oil flow so while he was there he blended the opening into the fitting. He did a nice job and saved me a lot of work.
Here's the adapter. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pswt8lhu1h.jpg Here it is mounted with the fittings and one hose. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pssjlbsqgu.jpg The hoses will run to the rad oil cooler between the base pan and the engine frame mount. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psn1jzhuvp.jpg We also put the motor back in to make sure we had enough room with the notch for the A/C compressor. Which there is plenty. Then we pulled the motor back out. I took a ride and picked up a piece of 11 gauge mild steel to finish up the frame notch. we'll be moving my buddy's welder and plasma cutter to my garage as soon as I get to U Haul to get a trailer. |
I also tried to install the banjo bolts from Sweet Peerformance today for my 4l85 the back one went on nice. I use a thicker aluminum crush washers to clock the hole in the banjo bolt to line up with the -6AN exit part of the fitting to help with flow as much as I could.
Then it was on th the front. I pulled the factory fitting out and tried the banjo fitting. It bottomed out before the crush washer was even close. So I measured the thread legnth against the factory fitting and found the problem. The bajo had quite a bit more thread then the original. I trie a thicker cruch washer but they didn't work. Heres the differance. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psgmmfzgbe.jpg With both crush washers this is how much space it had. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pselfpbyks.jpg Sweet Performane is away until tomorrow so I'll get intouch with them and see what he says. I don't want to shorten it because it's Cad plated and I don't want a sliver to come loose and get in the trans. |
Coming along nicely, Wayne. Good luck!
|
Looking good :)
|
Can't wait to see this masterpiece...
|
Wayne that looks really good.
What paint did you use on the oil pan? |

Hi Everyone, it's been a while since my last update but I have been busy doing other things. Starting mid June My sister in law comes up from Fl. to commemorate the passing of her son my nephew ( and God child ) He was killed in an accident being thrown from the car 3 years ago. Please always wear your belts! You don't want to put your family through what we went through from this. She left the 30th. the my wife's sisters and nephew came until the 15th of July. They took my wife with them so she could visit her mother in Fl. When she left I got the bright idea to surprise her by redoing the kitchen cabinets. (which I never tried before) The took me until yesterday to complete.I also did the vanity in the downstairs bath room. They came out OK for a first timer. The granite guy came in Saturday to measure for the counter tops. Tuesday I take her to pick out the slabs.
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pspfiimy9h.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psxxibjmps.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psk18flqpy.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pskr0puvdm.jpg Like most other places the weather got very hot and my friend who is helping me has a bad heart so the heat and especially humidity does a job on him. So he wan't able to get over. I went in the garage at night for shortspurts and formed up a few piect to fill in the frame notch and tomorrow we're going to weld them in so we can make the last piece to finish the notch . Here's the little I did get done during this time. Hopefully we can get back at it. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pshqkusue2.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psgwtrqm7b.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psxqgyhoo1.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps3ingkkax.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pse8nyppkn.jpg I left the top a little long incase we need it. Hopefully more to come soon. |
A little more progress on the frame notch today. Yesterday we welded in the first two pieces.
First the L shaped piece was welded in so it could be welder all the way around and then the top was ground so the next piece would fit tight against it and also be welded in. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pse8wdgbnu.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pse8nyppkn.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psq3ipffvx.jpg It was ground smooth so the next piece could be fit and welded in. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pstaxnjh9p.jpg Then I made the piece and fit it to cover the rest of the opening and Spaceman welded it in. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psz17lriku.jpg At the top he filled a couple of holes in the frame. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psxm5jklqf.jpg Then I ground the welds down to close to where we needed it. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psg2cid6pa.jpg When Spaceman gets here tomorrow we'll take a look at the frame connetors where they weld to the back of the frame and decide if we want to do them now or later. Feels good to be back out here again. |
There ya go Wayne!!!
Better hurry up though - 'cause I want to see this bad boy running and driving! |
Thanks Greg.
If good thoghts and prayers for you work you will! |
Nice progress Wayne!
|
Thanks Derek!
I got a little more done today ground the welds down on the frame and preped it for paint. I used self etching primer and will spray the Black tomorrow. First coat http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psyecvtdob.jpg I ended up putting 4 coats, Ill sand it and spray the rest tomorrow. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psjbi6cqr7.jpg Then move on!! |
Today we got the frame notch sprayed black and mounted the A/C bracket up for good.
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psmhafzigf.jpg We had to take one frame mount bolt for the notch so I drilled and tapped the frame for another one. I made a 3-1/6" thich washer (plate) to cover both bolt holes to help hold the frame mount istead of two washers with one side on each ground because they are so close together. |
Nice work on the frame notch Wayne!! One step closer to getting this bad boy fired up!!!! :D Gonna be a great car
|
Very well done sir! :) Seems like the little stuff seems to take the longest don't it?
Keep at it! |
Thanks guys we're plugging away.
|
Got a little done today, we started to make a top bracket to hold the A/C compressor in the low mount position. We had it together and then the A/C connections for the compressor came in and of course it was going to be tight on one side so apart it came. I bent up another arm and Spacemwn welded it on. I cleanded it up and primed it today and I'll paint it tomorrow.
Here it is in etching primer. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pskc0xmzal.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psi2umx7pd.jpg The little notch is to clear a bolt on the compressor. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psj8vte5w4.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps1frkfrxs.jpg amazing how such a little thing takes so long to get it right. Thank god we enjoy this stuff! :superhack: :weld: |
