So here's a couple more pics of some progress....

NO Art Himsl was not there overnight and pinstripping the car... the red is just a reflection from the big tool box that sits in front of the poor little thing.

So when is Art going to lay a little petite stripe on it?

WOW, very nice Greg, the color contrasts are incredible.

Although it did take a while to wade through all the funny comments :lmao:

Well I have to tell ya --- I almost had an apoplectic attack when I saw what at first appeared to be "color" on the grill and on the front spreader bar!! Then I realized it was nothing more than a reflection. OMG.... because I'm trying to keep this car from being "over done". Over done - to me - is when someone couldn't just STOP and let the car just be the car. They just have to have one more scoop -- or more pinstripe - or.... well... you get the point. Roy asked about pin stripes when I was down there last - and I said that I wanted to "live with" the car a bit before I did anything like that. Ya know - to each his own... and for me -- pin stripping just kinda takes the "bad boy" out of it -- and turns it a little bit more traditional... so I kinda want to see it in real life - against other cars - and just get a feel for it "complete". I can always "ADD".... it's hard to take away once you've added.

These threads have a way about them don't they?? While I'm certain it makes some people mad - having their thread go all sideways on them - I personally find it boring if they don't go that way. It's much more fun to have some fun IMHO. Otherwise it's just metal. The sideways part is when it becomes "people".

They had to re-do the hood because the shaker was causing some fit issues.

If the car is really for Gwen then she should be the one to pic the pinstripe. Maybe a pink one so Greg will be too macho to be seen driving a car with a pink pinstripe. Then it will really be her car.

Lol! You did. Watching the build of this car, and hearing you express your side of the coin, reminded me of "why"... Sometimes, it's hard to not get lost in all the other BS that can accompany a project, and lose sight of the original goal.

My 49-yr-old body is not very happy with how much it was in the shop, and how many tools it picked up, over the last week, but I had a deadline to meet. That was the inspiration part, and the lesson learned from watching you - my drive to push my aching body through last week was to get back to that simple little go-kart of a car...

And, I'm only still babbling because you said:

Glad I could build a fire under you!

49 year old body!! Hells bells --- wait 'til you hit 60 and you're bending over picking up those same tools... and humping that same tranny. Do you know that all that stuff puts on weight at the same rate you do?? LOL

I've pressed many a 4 speed Muncie off my chest and up into the hole - only to lift it down again to do something and lift it up there again...

Now I have an air driven tranny jack!! HA!! Now I complain because I have to bend over to pick up the air hose and hook it up!

I think this is my personal favorite car out of all of 'em I've owned. Although I really loved my '67 BB Vette.... that was a really nice car. But this is different than all of my others.

Pink won't deter him. Greg likes pink especially pink bandaids but maybe he just likes them on his Nomad. Right Greg?

Hey! That bandaid is long gone buddy -- she's all painted and cut and buffed - upholstery re-dyed and cleaned... She's gussied up real purdy like for Barrett Jackson (Lot #1363). I sold it to Mark Young the same day I bought the Lotus - during a Wednesday Beaches show... and he's taking it to BJ.

Saturday afternoon.... it has a good slot. I'd like to see it hit 85 grand or so just because I have a lot of time in the old beast.. but it is an older "restoration" and back when this car was built - ya just didn't put 100K into paint and bodywork - I've been driving the car since 1998! It has a lot of really good stuff in the car. I put quite a few miles on her. And the paint has all been fixed of road rash... the interior was always remarkable (an older Gabe Lopez) as it never showed much wear and tear despite being driven extensively... and the chassis is well sorted. It has the best motor in it I've ever built. Period. Sweet running - starts instantly - and thumps. And while I really don't care what it sells for, because I sold it to Mark - I'd still like to see him come out on it - and it's also nice to see something you've done get "rewarded". But at these auctions - you just never know.

I always called it "my happy car" -- people LOVE those old two tone colors. Didn't make any difference if it was some nice older lady -- or kids -- the car always got two thumbs up.

I'll have to find out who buys it - 'cause there's lots of little things in the car that are cool... like the A/C in the dash - those are NOS factory vents I found and paid a friggin' fortune for! Then because they're a compound curve -- I bought an entire A/C (padded!) dash and had it shipped to me from Texas --- so I could pattern the holes and location....

And the radio has a removable face plate --- when you remove it -- you push down on the fiberglass 'plate' back between the two cup holders and it pops out the top so you can lift the whole painted plate off --- and there's a hidden compartment there. Takes two seconds to access but nobody would ever know it's there.

And while Charley doesn't like stereo -- this thing has a thumping killer system in it. The amps etc are all under the rear seat -- and the speakers are kevlar Focals... and a pair of Dub 7's in the rear... It's got a big ass "cap" and the sound is incredible.

That's NOT wrinkled fabric or something which it looks like in the picture -- that's painted plexiglass (the turquoise portion) and it's just a bad photo with reflections in it which makes it look distorted.

Building the center console

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...console008.jpg

And like all my cars --- it's been "used" --- not abused but well used for what they were built for!

GregWeld 12-30-2013 07:25 PM

In this pic you can see why I went to the effort to fix the A/C vents --- I just couldn't live with the plastic under dash junk!

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...reStereo14.jpg

It has TWO pair of Focals with the tweeters -- and the crossovers....

While going back thru some photos --- of which I have HUNDREDS of this car since I did so many different projects on it (like 5 different motors - suspension and brake work = then a full chassis etc)..... I found this picture I took of the "BIG" Baer brakes (this is going on the front... dated APRIL 1st, 2002

Wow -- we've come a long ways since then!!

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/Nomad021.jpg

By April 7th --- they were installed and back on the ground....

This pic was taken February 25th, 2002..... and OH GEE!!! Look in the garage back there.... Bet you guys never knew I've had a few '69 Camaros!!! HAHAHAHAHA That is a Dusk Blue - Z/28 RS with Endura bumper...

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/Nomad008.jpg

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...dCamaro025.jpg

GregWeld 12-30-2013 07:59 PM

I didn't like the stinky little 302 -- the 4 speed -- or the suspension... and I'm not a guy that's hung up by the whole numbers matching thing --- Camaro's were so CHEAP back then compared to restoring '66/67 Corvettes -- I really didn't care about them (Camaro's) at all... they were just junky little "fun" cars... YES I KEPT ALL THE STUFF and when I sold it - the new owner got all the original stuff AND all the new...

Note the date stamp on this pic!! HAHAHAHAHAHA

I saw the Nomad at PIR this summer and it is one fine machine... the engine compartment was amazing. The new owner will get one heck of a nice car!

The pictures are great... nice Z28. For some reason I just never imagined that you were into 69 Camaro's... you're all right...

I should change that shouldn't I. I just forget. Maybe today - If I can remember how to do it. LOL

I can't remember when I sold that particular car --- but I remember WHY I sold that car. It was a real Z/28 RS and I am not much of a fan. I wanted to rip everything out and hot rod it. That wasn't the car to do that to so I sold it and bought TWO '69 Camaro drop top cars - and a Wayne Due clip - and a ZO6 LS motor... Drove both Camaro's and inspected them etc to decide which one was going to get ripped up. They both had TERRIBLE COWL SHAKE... really -- sorry Camaro lovers around the world... they were pretty poor little cars. So kept one and sold one. Kept the 30,000 mile So Cal original owner car... then in the process - decided I needed a real shop and started with the architects to figure that all out. When that didn't really work out the way I liked -- we started to shop for a commercial building... then found a house on 1.25 acres not more than a mile from where we were. DONE. Bought that house and started on a remodel and shop and pool build... in the meantime the poor little Camaro sat. I also had a '36 Ford project... and a couple '67 Corvettes... and the Nomad... and kids in high school etc. And then I could write a book on what came next. But I decided not to build any more Camaro's - there's plenty of really really nice ones around.

Thanks Dale. What they'll get with the Nomad is a car that will surprise the hell out of them --- 'cause it drives GREAT.... purrs.... and thumps at the same time.... It's just a very streetable reliable drivable neat old car with gobs of power on demand - instant throttle response... never overheats or makes any weird noises. It took me awhile and a lot of work - but it's a really well sorted out car. I used to call it my rolling experiment. If I didn't like the way something worked or looked - winter was re-do time... after awhile -- it all works and acts the way it should. I guess that's when you move on. If I kept it - I'd yard the body off and take it to bare steel and I'd do a one piece tailgate that looked like stock - but would open like the handyman version.... and I'd add down bars and a stealth cage... just to further stiffen the package.... and of course update the interior. But there's just other stuff I want to build... and that damn Charley has hooked me on the track cars -- so something has to move down the road. The new shop under the house is only 4100 square feet -- and the semi is taking a lot of that -- so with tools etc... well. Off she goes!
