Somehow, knowing how hard it is to source the parts to build that Talladega and that if it was an actual 69 NASCAR restoration it consists of some unobtainium parts and that the fit and finish in the pictures looks show queen quality, I don't think he was out there pushing it.:lmao:

That 67 camaro was awesome. I didn't get to see much of them race in the first heat but when they came back in the afternoon. No one could touch him. He lapped guys and made it look easy, and when he was pulling away at the chicane it's like he hit a power band like on a dirt bike and took off like a rocket.

I thought that for a car to be in the historic races it had to have race history dating back to when the would of had raced.
I didn't think it could be a recreation other than paint scheme.

If it's like Monterey Historics then that is correct.

It always depends on the sanctioning body. True historics are the actual race cars with documented heritage but I believe some organizations let you run recreations.


HISTORIC: Those automobiles produced after December 31, 1962 but on or before December 31, 1972. A Vintage automobile's "point in time” may be upgraded to the 1972 regulations but shall then be designated as a Historic automobile. In the case of formula racing cars, age, eligibility and con-figuration shall be as allowed by the Monoposto Register Rules and Regulations governing Formula B, Formula Ford, Formula Junior and Formula Vee with exceptions as noted below (see WHEELS).


FIA CATEGORY A (recognized production cars) Groups 1 through 4 will be treated the same as SCCA production cars and sedans. Competitors will be allowed to modify a production vehicle with no racing provenance to either FIA Group 1 through 4 or SCCA production or sedan configurations but not a combination of FIA and SCCA.

The guys pitted next to the 67 Camaro said he went home after winning Saturday because of the long drive home back to Canada. When I talked to the driver yesterday he said he would be back next year with slightly taller gears in the rear. I will be there again next year to watch for sure. Watching that guy drift around turn 12 with the engine screaming and going through the gears is now on my top ten coolest moments list.

Today... a 1965 or 66 Mustang, not sure... won the big bore race. The Mustang and a Corvette were bumper to bumper the whole race. The Corvette passed in the chicane near the end and then missed a gear... the Mustang got by and won the race. Fun day


A few pics of the Torino... It was a very cool car...it said "LeeRoy Yarbourgh" on the roof. I did a google search and found this:

Lonnie "LeeRoy" Yarbrough (September 17, 1938 – December 7, 1984) was a NASCAR racer. His best season was 1969 when he won seven races, tallied 21 finishes in the top-ten and earned $193,211 ($1,060,431.73 when inflation is taken into effect). During his entire career from 1960–1972, he competed in 198 races, scoring fourteen wins, 65 finishes in the top-five, 92 finishes in the top-ten, and ten pole positions. His racing number was 98. When asked about his passion, Yarbrough described racing as "what I call, my life."

Here is a pic of the dry sump tank inside the 98 car. I was checking out all the dry sump systems this weekend to see how they were set up with plumbing and vents.

I feel like I really missed something! These cars are unbelievable! PIR is about an hour and half away for me. Hopefully next year. I'm putting it on my calendar.
