Last night I painted the A/C bracket and today I installed it to see how it looked. Lesson learned, bring you glasses when you need to read a paint can. I picked up two cans of paint. One aluminum and the other metalic satin Nickle. Ah I'll get the aluminum so it will blend in instead of black. Get home spray the bracket, hmm looks pretty good. 3 coats, read the can Nickle ??? But it looks good so maybe somebody was watching over me and helped with the color choice.

Wayne, Sometimes things actually work out and I feel your pain as I have learned how to use the "Zoom" feature on my iPhone camera so I can read the small print on things.

and I think it looks great.

Some things are just meant to be, accidently using the "proper" color luckily and loosing our eyesight, I wish i could call it a lovely patina but it just plain sux not being able to read up close lol

Besides, it looks good from where i'm typin! Cheers Wayne....

waynieZ 08-13-2016 08:03 PM

Thanks Mike

I shipped my headers to Jet Hot for their 2500 degree coating, I'm doing them in Titanium color. The coating is supposed to be a little rougher than the Ceramicoat but I'll live with it. They got there a week ago last Wednesday so they should be getting close to being done. I can't wait for the E Mail with the tracking number. :ups: This is how my wife looks at me when UPS shows up.

will69camaro 09-18-2016 12:07 AM

That's what I'll eventually put on the turbo kit.

They use jethot 2500 extreme exclusively at my turbo fabricator.

Sonar Chief 09-18-2016 04:34 PM

Wayne, definitely post pictures when they come back, I get the same way when the brown truck shows up ... must be a car guy thing! lol

waynieZ 09-29-2016 09:51 PM

My headers are done and got shipped to the house today. Unfortunately no one home to sign for them. My wife was at work and I'm in Virginia! My grandson got sick and my daughter and her husband needed help , so I flew in last Sunday and stayed the week. He's better now and going back to school Monday so I'm headed home Sunday morning and will get them from UPS warehouse. I can't wait to see them.

My daughter said there was a cars & coffee around here (Suffolk Va.) Anyone know where it is ?

paulk68 09-30-2016 04:58 AM

Hope the little guy is feeling better. There is no better help than a grandparents that is for sure. I am thankful to have my parents close to help out when we need it. Can not wait to see those headers!!!

waynieZ 10-03-2016 09:59 PM

Well I got in last night from my grandson sitting ( too old to say Baby sitting) duties in Virginia. I did some stuff around the house and finnally got to go pick up my headers at UPS. They got in last week while I was away and no one was here to sign for them, so I had them hang on to them so I could get them when I got back.
They went to Jet Hot for thier 2500 degree coating. They look nice I had them do the titanium color. The finish is a lot rougher than the ceramicoat finish. It feels like a 120 or 150 grit sand paper. I like it. I'm not sure how they will be if they need cleaning because of the rough surface. I only had a few minutes so I only got a few pictures of one header. I'll try to get more and better ones tomorrow.

The second 02 bung is to be used by the tuner and will be capped after it's tuned.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psug7crjab.jpg

This bung is the one that came on the headers and doesn't have any clearance needed to fit the sensor with the 4l85.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps9x9iow1c.jpg

The true color is much darker than it showed out in the sun and I like the darker color.

waynieZ 10-03-2016 10:12 PM

Before I left for Va. I ordered a Finch fuel/rear end, overflow canister to vent my fuel tank. It came in while I was away. It looks like a nice piece.

GregWeld 10-04-2016 08:28 AM

Looks good Wayne!

Don't forget to pack that Finch Fuel vapor filter with activated charcoal.....

waynieZ 10-05-2016 08:14 PM

Finally got in the garage for a while this morning. We put some fluid in the converter and installed it on the trans. Then we dropped the motor back in it. It's been in and out so many time I think it knows the way on its own. This is the firs ttime in quite a while you can walk without feeling like your driving through the cones.

waynieZ 10-07-2016 09:32 PM

I got the headers bolted up yesterday. Then I put the oil filter back in to measure for the oil cooler lines. I made up the return line from the oil filter to the motor. I bought a kit to pressure test the hoses before I put them in, so I did the hose and left it over night. Still pressurized this morning. Good to go.

Not much to see but here's the hose

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pstghybxhx.jpg

The headers bolted up.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psvycyy7ml.jpg

Bolted up the starter too.

kttrucks 10-08-2016 06:41 AM

Wow! Looking good! Your headers are woven nicely into the engine bay.. looks tight to the control arm, but it all fits and looks great. The FINCH canister is a great addition... I gotta get mine ordered as well! I had one in JADED and it solved two problems very elegantly!
KT

gofastwclass 10-08-2016 07:07 AM

The car is looking great and I love the progress. Keep knocking things down in chips like that and you'll be driving in no time!

Che70velle 10-08-2016 09:36 AM

Looks great Wayne. I had a set of headers done in the same coating, but in flat black, many years back. They were rough to the touch as well, and oddly enough the coating flaked after one race weekend. Took them back, and they recoated them in the ceramic/ aluminum look, ( different material altogether) and never had any other issues out of that set. Hopefully they figured out the issues since then, and yours will be fine.
This is the final install this time for the engine, I presume? You'll be driving it before you know it.

grendel 10-08-2016 04:57 PM

I have some nice valve covers for you :)

waynieZ 10-08-2016 09:18 PM

JJ I'd love some nice valve covers but my wife overheard me talking about Granitelli wires and surprized me with a set last Christmas, so there won't be any relocating of coils for this motor, not with what she paid for these wires!

waynieZ 10-08-2016 09:37 PM

I was out in the garage for a while today and test fit the oil lines to the remote filter and when the radiator support goes back in I'll plumb the oil cooler in the Radiator.

This was the idea I had when it was on the engine stand.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psncpzn7qj.jpg

Here it is installed loosely. They are not as tight to the oil pan as they look.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pscnyuyj84.jpg

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pscgbc7kdl.jpg

They clear all hot or moving parts. They will also have a hose seperator bolted to the block to keep them safely away from everything.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pspypwzukq.jpg

In this picture you can see the aluminum piece bolted to the block, there is also a bolt hole right below it. I will drill and tap the aluminum for the hose seperator.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psoytjeh4m.jpg

Here you can see the room I have.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pskddrqgov.jpg

The return line is connected to the filter the long hose will be secured to the frame or inner fender on its way to the bottom of the in radiator cooler.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pswvjwrm89.jpg

Then its to figure the routing of the discharge from the cooler to the in side of the filter.

waynieZ 10-12-2016 09:37 PM

We spent 3-4 hours in the garage Tuesday trying to get the trans bolted to the motor, and it kicked our A$$. It was definitely not our day. It had been in 3 times before and it wasn't going in this time that day, so it was time to run and come back to fight another day.
We got a fresh start today and in 45 minutes it was in and bolted up! I guess the engine wasn't at the right angle to mate up yeasterday. We got it in and made room for the electrical connection to the trans (Clearanced the floor), and had to call it a day. In less than 1/4 the time we got a lot more done. Sometimes it better to step away and chill until cooler heads prevail.
No pictures today, maybe tomorrow.

Looking great Wayne! Your getting closer every day. Well, maybe except for Tuesday, LOL. Keep it up bud, it wont be too much longer.

waynieZ 10-13-2016 11:06 AM

Thanks Al! I'm trying.

frankv11 10-14-2016 08:11 AM

Looking good Wayne , all those details . Very nice

grendel 10-14-2016 09:01 AM

It's all the details that make the car. Keep it up.

waynieZ 10-16-2016 09:52 PM

I spent all day and most of the night in the garage Friday removing mill scale from my brackets we made. Holy moly I wish I was as tough as that crap is!! It took for ever, had to quit because I could feel my neighbor zeroing in on me with his rifle for the compressor running after 11:30. He shouldn't complain there IS 9' between his bedroom and the garage. The next day I used Eastwood fast etch on all of them, then sprayed them with high zinc content primer. Then some black paint. Thank God for my reperator, that zinc paint will kill you quick.

Here's a few pictures.

Here's a couple of the brackets after Fast Etch

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps1ueou3fx.jpg

Some primed parts. Smaller is for the Heat exchanger pump and the long one is for the remot oil filter.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pskz5sjtfx.jpg

Both installed

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psdfch9cgi.jpg

I also did the same to the spacer for the trans mount, and the remote hood latch.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pshu0l7bvr.jpg

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psz3llgynr.jpg

Next will be the piece of the latch that connects to the hood.

Thanks for the laugh, I needed that today. :lmao: I need a house and shop on acreage for that very reason.

Parts are looking good.

tubbed69 10-17-2016 07:02 PM

Looking great Waynie, glad to see the progress.

waynieZ 10-17-2016 07:50 PM

Thanks Guys!
They are actually really good, when I was going to build the garage I asked them to sign saying it was OK. They told me to put it right on the property line they didn't care.
Her bed room is acctually 9' from the wall ofthe garage.

DOOM 10-17-2016 08:39 PM

You wouldn't of had those problems if you keep that BB in there!! :hello:

Oh! oh! so much love!!!!:snapout:

waynieZ 10-17-2016 09:25 PM

I was out there all day today and got some stuff done. I installed the HX pump and oil filter, then I put some hose seperators to keep the oil lines away from the headers.
Decided to paint the hood latch. Clean all the mill scale off , put it in the fast etch wait 45 minutes go out and rinse it off. Lightly sand the piece and prime it. Sweet looks good. Now sand with 400 wash it off with prep spray and ready for paint. All set up like I know what I'm doing, dew rag, resperator, paint all ready. I spray the whole back side ,perfect! do the edges and now the front. spray the whole thing Nice" oops a line from the wire its hanging from. No problem, I'm ready to spray, door opens crash bang! I look, nothing just something on the stairs that fell. look back BIG SAG! Time to shower see it tomorrow.

I put a rubber liner between the brackets and the mounting point so I won't get any vibration from the pump.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psqmzzkuvx.jpg

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps90l4se53.jpg

Here's where I mounnted the hose seperators.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pswytok1ma.jpg

These will direct them awa from the Headers down near the oil pan.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pscmofvwjc.jpg

This keeps them away from chaffing on the framee stand and the third one away from the power steering pulley.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pszwjsricg.jpg

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps678ikbq2.jpg

I'll add one more once I get the radiator back in so I camn make up the hose in it's final position.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psmxvnlapw.jpg

Here are the oil filter and HX pump mounted.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pswadjm9ly.jpg

Tomorrow I might get the radiator support back in.

waynieZ 10-25-2016 09:06 PM

I got the radiator support in on Friday and we installed the intercooler tank where the battery used to be. Now we're figuring out the hoses and fittings I'll need to plumb the heat exchanger.
We bolted the converter to the flex plate, man theres not much room to work doewn there. The trans cooling lines are connected to the trans and the other ends are ready to connect when I re install the trans cooler.
We cut the fuel hoses to legnth and installed the XRP fittings. I need to send them out so they can get crimped. I'm looking for someone with the XRP crimper to do them. We are trying to get a -16 90 degree fitting on the end of the HX hose. It's kicking our butts! we tried without success and decided to cut the hose end and get a fresh start. Still nothing. Tomorrow we try again. Wish for me to have the patients to not screw up the fitting, They don't make them anymore!

paulk68 10-26-2016 04:45 AM

Looking better with each post Wayne keep at it!!!

Well I decided to call XRP and ask if there was a secret de coder ring you wave over this fitting to get it to go on, they told me they changed the design of this fitting because of this problem. It took us about 4 hours to get the first one on so XRP is shipping me the newly designed nut that goes over the hose to alleviate the problem. They were great about helping me. I only wish I would have called sooner.

rixtrix1 10-27-2016 11:44 PM

Progress is great. Thanks for sharing, Wayne!
