Great Tip!

We finally getting back into the grove of things from our trip out to Michigan to the Motorstate Challenge… It was one hell of a drive! 40 hrs straight one way!! I flew back home.. The car is dialed in & working great… Karl just needs to get some more seat time in the car.. Karl placed about 5th place in the vintage class.. The competition was stiff out their but good to see that we can be pretty close to the front of the pack..

Here are some action shots.. The Friday Cruise..

http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...b9487a2f_o.jpg

Saturday on the road course!! It was fun watching him chasing Randy from D&Z Customs..the last run Karl got towed off the track… but was able to find the issue & repair it for the Sunday Auto-X

http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...366f8c7d_b.jpg

The Sunday Auto-X was a great day… But I learned a few things.. never be the first one to run the course… Karl's best time of the day was a 39.2 or 3.... He would have had a 38.6, but hit an easy cone on the final straight..

Have been crazy busy, but wanted to take the time to give credit where credit is do. Got a chance see this car up close and personal in Michigan, all I can say is Wow.I haven't seen workmanship like that since Bob Johnson's Cuda.

The fit and finish were flawless, funny some of the smallest but most ingenious details most people probably overlook. Just when you thought you couldn't do anything more to a 68 Camaro, someone changes the playing field altogether.

Phenominal job Chris, your a lucky guy Karl. Good meeting you. Ron

dunnjun 08-16-2012 02:22 PM

Thanks Ron. It was good meeting you too, and being able to put a face with one of my favorite Mustangs. Awesome flares!

Yeah, Cris is a little OCD, LOL. I was blown away when I finally saw the finished product.

See you in the rookie class at Optima. We're gonna have some fun!

Cris@JCG 08-16-2012 08:50 PM

Ron- Thank you for the props.. I was very luck that I was alllowed to build this car.. It was great meeting you @ Motorstate & thanks for the advise on the repairs we had to do that afternoon when we broke down..

Looking forward to seeing you & your Mustang @ SEMA!

So I heard that Blu got FTD at So Cal Challenge besting even Mary Pozzi's time when it was pinch hitting for a burnt out ignition module on a third gen. Pictured from left the right Karl the owner, Cris the builder, and Casey the overall event champ. Blu really proved she can get around a track yesterday!

What a nice car:)
May I ask what make and size are those headlights?
Is it built in led turn signals?

Regards
Morten

Cris@JCG 09-10-2012 07:14 AM

Signal lights are built into the headlights... We got those thru Headwinds..

Thank you Sir,

Could I ask about the part number - or maybe I can buy a set from you?

how did you cleanly attach your subframe to the subframe connectors? any pics?

Cris@JCG 09-30-2012 04:46 PM

When we got the car.. Tyler had already done the DSE sub connectors.. All we did is cut them to put in the new sub & made some new plates that we plug & perimeter welded.. I have no pics.. but If I happen to have the car on the lift this week.. I will snap some pics..

I was going thru Karl's YouTube Channel & found these cool videos...

dolf 11-26-2012 10:51 AM

What tires were you running? Sizes as well? Car looked nice and balanced. Have you ever corner weighted it?

Cris@JCG 11-26-2012 07:17 PM

19x12 on 345-30-19 on the rear & 18x10.5 on 285-35-18.. The car has spent plenty of time on the scales.. People still can't believe that we run 850 lbs springs on the front & 600 lbs on the rear...

Car is going thru one last change.. :unibrow: 19x11 on 305-30-19 on the front.. I test drove the car today on the street today.. Car drives great but have some modifications to do to get full turning from lock to lock.. We will be testing on the Auto-X on Friday when Mike Musso from Big Muscle Drive will be taking it for a spin plus doing a feature story on Blu...

Wow! That is a lot of spring. What is the weight of the car? Must be a pretty stiff ride.

Cris@JCG 11-27-2012 11:04 AM

Car rides pretty smooth.. Changes direction pretty quick.. Comfortable @ 120 mph

3550 Ibs

4.11 gears in the rear makes the car hit the rev limter pretty darn quick! :D

Famous last words, LOL. Chris, you should know better than most.....they are never done,

GRob 11-28-2012 07:06 AM

Can't wait to see that video!

Those spring rates don't seem completely crazy to me - it's all about the damping.

Cris@JCG 11-28-2012 06:49 PM

I was on Hardcore Chevy & found this great action shot of Karl driving on the road coarse @ RTTC!

Congrats on the coverage Cris, and Karl. Between you guys and the rest of the JCG crew, and the hot shoe helpers, you have endlessly tuned, refined, and driven that car to becoming something quite special!

Matt

Cris@JCG 12-17-2012 08:07 AM

Thank you Jay! & also gotta thank you for giving me paint formula for the engine bay on Blu..

Thanks Matt.. The car has come a long way in such a short time... Grateful for Casey being able to get the car tuned for Karl to drive.. Guy Ankeny for shocks & springs.. DSE for putting out a great product for us to work with & Kyle taking my calls to discuss solutions to problems.. Brian Hobough, Mike Maier, Mary Pozzi, Brian Finch, & Karl for all giving us the driving input to to tune the suspension..

We got one more "Hot Shoe" driver that I would value his opinion on how Blu handles.. Looking forward to taking Blu to 10/10th with Danny Popp & Karl getting some road coarse instruction..

Well earned and deserved. You had to be shaking your head about the timing with the weather. End result appears double exposure of Blu Balz :D thanks to Mother Nature. Their ride review video's are personal favorites and certainly generate a lot of positive impressions. Looking forward to their full report now that they've had a taste of the car and your shop's talent.

Cris@JCG 01-14-2013 10:17 AM

Blu Balz is going thru a few changes.. We decided while we were waiting for the next race event (RTTC) & the car was still in CA.. We would do some changes... The fenders are off & getting some modifictions to run the 305-30-19.. Plus had to modify the lower control arm.. Plus getting a new spoiler made for the car! Thanks Ben for updating the rendering...

Also got the car on a diet! looking to shed some weight.. The car currently on the scales sits @ 50/50 on the weight distribution @ 3450..

I really enjoyed your feature on Big Muscle - really looking forward to part two!

I also admire watching this car continue to progress and evolve. The proposed new front aero doesn't do much for me (kind of takes away from the simplicity of the exterior) but I can respect your execution and its functionality.

Cris@JCG 02-26-2013 03:25 PM

We got a few changes going on Blu! The fenders just came off the molds with lower valance.. fenders are @ 6.5 pounds with the lower valance @ 2.00 pounds... plus got a new hood with front spoiler & splitter... All pcs will be in Carbon Fiber!
