So you were blaming them for a throw out bearing problem that didn't exist while your 20k rear end was eating itself. :D

Good call there. Coincidence? I think not!
Good luck with the '32 Greg.

No -- I still think the bearing set up was improper despite them stating to the contrary.... but it's a he said she said....

Squealing -- squealing goes away when you depress the clutch... noise got worse with milage -- so quiet when first fired up and then after a few miles (4 or 5?) it got louder.

It could have been bad bearings in the carriers... which overheated the stub axles -- but since I'm not working on it - I have no clue. In the meantime they're going over everything it "could be". And in keeping with their past "defense" --- it's all "bad" or "defective" or "crappy" parts nothing they did...

At this point I don't really care -- I just want the little POS done and home.

pokey64 06-16-2011 09:45 PM

Good to hear they're getting the car ironed out for you Greg.

I bet your wife's R8 is a hoot to drive!

I'm hoping she hates it -- 'cause I love it!

EEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAA

Too bad she isn't that dumb! :woot:

If you had just gone to Brizios in the first place I probably wouldn't have had to spend a half hour getting caught up on this thread. What type of clutch do you have ? Could it be what 's making the noise ?

Charley -- Trust me... NOBODY is sorrier about that than me! :willy:

I don't know what brand/type clutch but I think it's a RAM? I will find out.

Wow it only took you 30 minutes to get caught up. I really need to take a speed reading class.

Charley -- It's a LUK clutch.... So wish me luck with that! :D

Never heard of 'em -- but that's what's in there... and a Tilton TO bearing... and a Quick Time bellhousing... TKO 600 5 speed.

Blake Foster 06-20-2011 03:16 PM

LUK makes pretty good quality stuff not really Hiperf

GregWeld 06-20-2011 08:40 PM

They (SAR) were driving it today --- new larger "splined yokes" (half shafts)... since I'd managed to twist the stock ones til the chrome came off in a couple places... I actually learned something there! Chrome leaves great witness marks on twisting when it's been applied to a steel shaft! :woot:

I'm hoping to hit Portland tomorrow to pick the car up -- and then hit Penticton B.C. for the "Peach City Beach Cruise" this weekend.

Vegas69 06-20-2011 08:55 PM

Pay them to put 300 miles on it..

Sadly.... I think I've paid them quite enough to go to school on my dime....

Vegas69 06-20-2011 09:13 PM

OK, don't pay them to put 300 miles on it. :D

Good one! But you're right! He wants a wire transfer or cash NO CHECK from me (because I put a stop payment on the last 20K - which I later WT'd 15K of after we worked out a plan).

I spent the week with lawyers, accountants, and commercial real estate pros, compiling a bid on a 70+MM commercial building in downtown Seattle... the down payment is 40%.... the building has a negative a cash flow projection for 3 years...and requires 6MM in TI's....

Steve is right -- I'm probably not good for the 5 or 6K balance due. :unibrow:

This little "project" is a mere "distraction" in the general scheme of things. Which is why I went ballistic when he threatened me with holding the car up without payment.

Building in finished - except for 3 floors that would only need TI's.... It's new construction so unfortunately your wife missed out on this one!:D

Starbucks built it for their planned expansion --- which they failed (epic) to do... so no longer need the building.

Went to Ptown today --- the Roadster was ready and spotlessly clean -- so cruised around for an hour and a half... the car is 110% now!

Everything works better... could just be my brain -- but I think every thing is better. Less weird noises.... there's some tranny and rear end (straight cut gears) whine when decelerating... the 8 stack has a "air intake" whistle and real low cruise speeds which I can now hear... and it's NORMAL... there's so little blade open and real low speeds and with the open hood sides you can hear it. It's kinda kool when you get used to it.

They took out the STARDRIVE and put in an ignition switch from an older Porsche and the switch has a real quality feel to it. She fires off instantly and settles into a nice rumble purring.

The trans shifts 100% better.... it used to not mesh going into reverse - now it just slips in with no drama. Before the re-install of the TO bearing - it was a bit embarrassing because it ground every time. Made me feel like some teenage newb!

I have to give the crew at SAR kudos... they got 'er right this time.

Half shafts are MUCH larger! I'll have to send Jeff Kugel some booze or something for his valiant effort on my behalf. They look better and hopefully I won't be able to twist them so easily!

All in all -- PERFECT!

:woot:

Thanks Jim! She's rolling to Penticton B.C. Thursday for the Peach City Beach Cruise... it's supposed to be "roadster" weather!

We'll see if I can "repeat" with this roadster as a T shirt car like my Nomad did a couple years ago. :woot:

It's a beautiful area - and they've converted many of the orchards into wineries now. I think there are 85 of them in the area. That makes it fun to cruise from spot to spot - have lunch etc. And I don't even drink!

It was purely a round tripper - since I "surprised" them by having to pick up the car a day earlier than planned... I'd forgotten I had a house full of people coming today! So I had to go down and back yesterday. They were very accommodating and I really appreciated that!

BTW -- Not a chance I'm taking the thing on a test drive clear across town @ 3 in the afternoon to where you live! I went out Foster Rd to the boonies -- where If I broke down - I wouldn't cause any traffic problems! :willy:

Ricochet 06-22-2011 08:45 AM

Although a painful road to get here I'm glad to hear everything is good and your able to enjoy it! Car is absolutely beautiful! CONGRATS!

Great to hear Greg. Enjoy!

Vegas69 06-22-2011 06:31 PM

I still think something is put together with duct tape and twine. I'll wait to congratulate you for a couple weeks.

Glad to hear she's running good.
