Next up...
I wanted to change up the feel on the inside of the car so the plan is to experiment with steering wheel and steering wheel dish so I ordered up a new Grant Steering wheel in Suede. I like the feel and the new locations of the wheel. However I may consider one with less dish next. But for the time being this should work fine. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...8eb3fa16c9.jpg Okay, I finally ordered up a set of header studs and let's not talk about the bolts that are currently on the motor. Remember the 1st version of the car was to be bolt together and so is the second version. Lets call version "Attention to Detail" phase. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...0b65d2cced.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...b0cbc6e9a6.jpg Okay, it happened... "the might as well" since I am here thing. My goal is to quiet down the inside of the car so I called the guys at DEI and ordered more BOOM MAT. Which of course meant that I need to remove the Seats, Carpet and Tiger Cage and of course I might as well order a few 12 point ARP bolts to put back in the Tiger cage. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...0f3e64d4ab.jpg It's a good thing I have good company while I am working in the garage. Not sure why I didn't get a new dog sooner even though they can't talk it's nice to have someone just hanging with you. His favorite spot in under the brake pedal. The first thing I need to do is isolate the interior from the trunk which should help reduce the sound from the Edelbrock electric fuel pump and the general noise from an old car trunk. My plan is to make patterns of all of the opening and create close-outs with a thin high density board and then line-x over it so it looks like part of the rear firewall. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...d19bc0bbd4.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...746c82c27b.jpg And of course in short order my garage was full of cars and parts. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...dd3ff33068.jpg |

Sorry buddy  |
Marty, are those down bars in the engine bay custom or a part#? and what do they tye off too? just the firewall? cause i like em.....
Oh, the rest of the car looks nice to....lol. And yes, those are the Recaro's to get, I have Recaros, not those, and there is a huge difference....mine dont have enough lumber support, auto-x ok, trac, way no. btw, just bought the lady pamela a "liv-lust" full suspension, for fathers day. She said, "what would you like for fathers day?", i said "to go buy you a mountain bike..."and thats what we did. And shes stoked. |
And I love this finish and I am considering doing this with the center console and lower dash.

Next Up...POR15 Bed Liner (this stuff is hard to get off your skin)
I plan to do a bed liner in the trunk and keeping with the budget friendly and do as much as you can I going to try to use POR15 bed liner for the trunk. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...dd68cfe4c4.jpg So I prepped the trunk and started by brushing Por15 in the trunk floor and inside of the quarters. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...cb9dff767e.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...674b0522e5.jpg Holy shine batman. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...5b6a571491.jpg And yep I got it on me http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...b6a94547d4.jpg Marty-MJ |
What trunk hinges are those?
I use a Denali bracket and extinguisher in all my cars... GM marked, nice stainless brackets, etc. Cheap, too. My DenaliHD came with one. |
JJ can you post the number for the fire extinguisher bracket? It's on my list of things to add to the car as well.
Some great ideas you've got, Marty. Good luck! |
The trunk hinges are from Fessler. They fit and work fantastic

Thanks for posting up all the good ideas. I will probably use the muffler shield idea on the 67 so I can keep the mufflers tucked up close!

So I finally finished the trunk last weekend.

Looks good Marty but I see a new driver coming soon, great pic.
|
Marty, Your lucky to have a good helper. My daughters are old enough to have their own kids which are still too young to help Vavoo in the garage. My grandson does have to go check the car out everytime he comes over so atleast there's hope for me.
Looking good! |

That's awesome Marty. I love everything about the concept of this car, how you built it, planned use, and family involvement. Fun experiences all around and the essence of modern hot rodding.
|
This is a case of "while your there, you might as well"
Ride-Tech does a really nice job with the hardware they supply for the Tiger Cage however, I just wanted to use ARP hardware because it looks so much nicer then the supplied bolts. http://www.garagescene.net/_data/i/u...2ded658-me.jpg |

Thanks guys and I post up the part numbers & summits price tomorrow so you guys don't go into sticker shock. |
As most of my friends know I am a little bit ADD and I tend to over think thinks and organize projects before I start especially when I have someone coming over to help me.
Step 1 is to get the dog bed and lay all the hardware out by size. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...653dcdcee2.jpg Step 2 well I didn't plan for this and a trip to the local Sears hardware was necessary. Needed to get a wire wheel for the bench grinder so I could clean up the clamps as they oxidized a little bit over the last couple years. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...ea7136e0a3.jpg First step was to put the trunk bars in which went fairly well. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...b8fc7e8075.jpg Oh that's Mike working in the inside of the car. We figured it was my car so I should be the one inside the trunk. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...8159419484.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...448e32e5b6.jpg We also installed the Kicker 6 x 9 Speakers. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...84c1352ab1.jpg Since I did all 12 point hardware on Syborg I wanted to do 6 point ARP's throughout this car. We also installed a new package tray with a slightly different look. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...1393918496.jpg Uniting the hoop to the down bars is pretty straight forward. Just make sure you install the clamps on the correct side as they are side specific and there is a left and right half that must go together. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...fc28c68167.jpg Quick reference is the "T" faces up. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...e005531a18.jpg In order for the clamps to look nice the lower clamps are a tight to the body which take a little extra time to tighten. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...8f577de6e5.jpg Door Bars installed and cage is in. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...db71c6166b.jpg Marty-MJ |
Many years ago I purchased this heel plate from www.autovation.net and had plans to put it in the truck. However, it never made it in so now it's going
in 2nd chance. I will be dropping the car off at the local interior shop and have them make floor mats with these built into them. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...16a2ca2699.jpg I also suffed the rear seats back in the car just to get them off my garage floor. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...6dc6fe13c2.jpg |
That has to be the least horrific bolt-in cage install we've ever heard of. Everything looks like it fits nice and snug and no fitment issues!
|
Lookin' real good Marrtay!
|
Looking good!
|
Moving to the rear of the car.
The first and second trunk seal both sucked. So I took a gamble and bought a third version and it fits perfectly. It doesn't even need glue to stay in place and the best news is I can close the trunk without having to slam it. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...4c262e79cd.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...a95c0722ee.jpg Marty-MJ |
