In all seriousness, I’m glad you were home and my boys got to see the guy I talk about and cut out of town to go hang with. I hadn’t seen Gwen in almost a year so it was nice to sit and talk with her, she’s a keeper for sure! Looking forward to seeing the “Truck of the Year” get completed and the miles racked up. Xoxo |

Well it didn't look like this on Monday, lol...
Thanks for the tip of sending me there while I was in Austin, the Hot Rod Shop was over the top! Your 40 was blown apart for paint and it was in a clean room, I think they could have done surgery in there! Mike showed us around and then turned us loose. It was like a car show inside of giant pole barns, and more buildings going up. |
So glad you took the time to hit up some car stuff Joe!! And that's top notch car stuff!!
I love all the guys in this shop.... and they've just continued to perform! My poor little truck has advance leaps and bounds since CHRA took on the project. |

I'm only posting this for Joe! Since he went all the way to the shop and only saw a bucket of bolts. Sorry Joe - but there was plenty of other stuff to see there huh!!! LOL
Well -- that -- and because Charley and I are in a "race" to the finish. Attachment 66746 |

Very Cool! Thanks!
Looks allot different, and yes it is a great place for a Motor Head to visit! Top Notch work performed in that shop :king: |

I like it better now with the color. It's a 40's color palate.... It's simple and doesn't say "look at me" -- I'm not a "trend setter".... I just want the mechanicals to be solid and the old pile of parts to run and drive WELL. The paint will look like crap after I've owned it for 2 weeks... I'm just not a waxer. I'm a "Bugs are a badge of honor" kind of guy here. |
I'd say you nailed the look it that was what you're going for. The drive line and frame look great. The contrast from the gold/bronze color really pops.
|
It will be good that he drives it in the grey primer and then after the tour he can decide on a color.

I didn't really pick a lot of "it" as far as details. I think the only thing I came up with was that I wanted to build a '40 pickup.... I'm more a general guidance guy.... Mike Kaiser will send me a sketch - I don't re-do the sketch - I instantly like what I see and say PERFECT! DO IT! I KNOW it will be awesome. You can tell that THEY have already redone the sketch or talked about it etc. By the time I see the version they send - it's spot on. After a few exchanges like that - you get out of the way and let 'em build a kool hot rod. I did change the art deco design in the seats and door panels -- the original looked too much like a middle finger -- so we shortened it so that it's not the first thing that pops into your head. I asked for the trunk in the trunk because as a daily - I want to be able to lock something up... I asked for bumper delete.... I can't even remember if I picked the wheels, or if Mike did. I think it was Mike. Here's my thought about doing business this way. If I didn't trust the shop and the hot rod guys that are building it.. why would it be there. These guys get up and live and breathe this stuff every day (I only wish I could be so lucky). When I'm building something - I think they know more than I do about almost all of it. I know what I like or don't like - I make that general direction be known. I don't discuss what it's going to cost - or what an item they want to do costs. I can't stick to a budget - a project like this can't be built on budget... because everybody (Charley) says - HEY! You know what would be really kool.... and here we go..... LOL Everything they've done has just been "well how kool is that!" to me! It's like Christmas -- you've asked for a few things -- you have no idea what's under the pretty paper -- but it's just what you ever wanted.... and you didn't even know you wanted it! This truck and the HOF tour is going to save my sanity and restore my faith in the car industry. I need some "GREAT" right now. I have to admit - I think I've been a little depressed lately. I kind of like "subtle like a hammer" -- which is what I think this little truck is going to be. They're already classics... and with a decent stance - a few little details (Thank you Mike Kaiser and the crew!), a sweet little motor/tranny combo (Thanks to my friend Don Hardy Jr XOXO) -- the Roadster Shop chassis (XOXO to my friends Phil and Jeremy!) Thank you GM for making LS motors to put in my Fords! Those are just shout outs for people I consider my friends - (not sponsors/no free or discounted stuff)... They're just people that have had great input and I smile when I see them! God I love this hobby! |
That gray was a great call. I agree with going the "less vocal" route. Let it surprise people lol
