Have you reached out to Roadster Shop yet?

Maybe they’ve done some already...

You guessed right...haha. Going away from the analog dash and mounting a Motec C1212 datalogger behind the dash. The box drawn is the viewable screen area. Allow me to get a little technical and maybe provide some insight for others considering and short stop the research like I had undertaken.

Fortunately I connected with Mercury Racing and Motec engineers to figure out my options and best direction. What led me to this was the CAN Bus signal coming from the Mercury Racing ECU. When someone goes with the Mercury Racing SB4 engine you have a few options. First the CAN signal is Mercruiser's Smartraft std from the ECU which is used in their marine applications that are plug and play with Lowrance, Garmin etc. Think large flat panels in the boats sold today.

1. Gauge packages from Livorsi are plug and play with Smartcraft data but not a great option for a car.

2. Obtain a Smartcraft to analog gauge convertor. Good option and certainly the cheapest but you can't take advantage of all the data coming from the ECU.

3. Obtain a Mercruiser Smartcraft to N2K (aka NMEA 2K) converter with is a standard CAN data signal in marine platforms. Great option but whose platform can read N2K CAN data? MOTEC is the only one that can from what I have found for off the shelf as they do have significant presence in marine applications. Then a programmer just has to map the signals using the ECU Protocol Group Numbers. Sounds simple right?

The C1212 or similar also has both analog and digital input/output's outside the ECU environment or CAN signal like trans and diff temp for instance or traction control. In addition the Motec datalogger provides track data, times, etc. As far as the display with their display creator you can create multiple custom gauge layouts. Expensive route to go but very versatile.

Hope all that may help others considering the SB4 engine.
