The way I figure, it will hold until it gets hot. I expect to get it really hot so I'll go to the new DFX or McLeod twin disc. This snowball started at Pikes Peak and I hope it's on the bunny slope.

what happened to not wanting to do any fuel system work? snowball:unibrow: |
Thinking about putting a fuel pressure and fuel mixture gauge in the dash cluster. It's on the bench for an oil temp gauge anyway. Fuel system is border line. I'm going to give it a chance. If I knew then what I know now.........

We all know it takes effort to create a snowball........:_paranoid
Me thinks Todd likes this snowball! |
This is the last snowball...mark my words. I'm done.

How long have you been on this site? Did you remember to take your meds today Todd??:D |
Todd,
I Know this is off topic but what kind of coating do you have on your garage floor? Did you apply it or have it done profesionally? BTW sweet pics of your new engine. Thx James |
I never realized how great the snowball analogy was until just now, reading about your project. Actually screw the snowball analogy, your car is like snowman. You've got a pile of snowballs. Each successive snowball is a little smaller. If you're like me, you've got one snowball for the suspension, wheels, brakes, etc, which is by far the biggest, then you've got another for the engine, which is a slightly smaller snowball, and finally a couple more little(r) ones for paint and interior, and that is just the process of doing it the first time. God forbid it starts to melt, and you've got to go back out there, like with your engine.
Just remember, eventually your snowman is going to start to melt again :unibrow: I know you were looking at that carbon fiber closeout, and let me tell you, buying one carbon fiber part is a dangerous road to take, even if you paint it. I needed a hood and ended up with everything but a deck lid. Matt |
I had the garage coating done by a local outfit. It was around 2k for a 3 car garage. It's pretty trashed right now with my massive spill from yanking the motor. I might need to have some of it redone. Not sure yet.
Matt, you are absolutely right. Many snowballs. The engine is the biggest since this is the second go around and I'm reusing very little. I'll have exactly what I want though. From here on out, I feel like I'm happy with everything I have on the car and its should take the abuse that's planned. When I started this process almost 4 years ago, I didn't plan to race the car. Now that's about all I care about. Different decisions have to be made. What you can get away with on the street fails misearably on the track. Will I make some small tweaks like close out panels and tail lights? I'm sure eventually. |

And I thought you were always honest---maybe only in your intentions with that statement my friend. Last snowball---yeah---you like racing now--it's just beginning if you find you "love it". I'll support you in it though--we can roll downhill together until we end up in some rehab clinic in Malibu for this. Greg will have to pay for it and visit us on the weekends. |
I'll bring my drool diaper!
:woot: |

Todd how does it go: You know how to make a small fortune in racing........start with a large one  Or something like that......... Marc |
You got that right Marc. :willy: I'd rather have the car than the money in the bank... At least it's a partial investment.
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...969/noname.jpg I dropped the Boze wheels off at the UPS store the evening. I can't say I was happy to see them go. They sure did gleam in the store. I'm sure many of you are wondering if I have a screw loose. The fact of the matter is I've changed my ways throughout the build of this car. It started out as just a fairly stock restoration, then I saw the pro touring stuff and wanted the look. Now I'm all about performance. Those wheels aren't the optimal choice performance wise for my car. The fronts weren't wide enough to take advantage of my front subframe and the 19's are heavy out back. The compound wasn't as soft as I would like either. I've got to be fairly responsible to myself. The new ZL-1 build goes a little beyond that. I have a brand new radiator on the way and my current clutch won't work. Of course that's just a small part of the snowball. The wheels were collecting dust and hadn't been on since June so they went down the road. Sure the car was designed after those wheels but I've grown to like the new look better. It's the feel it give the car. I may eventually brush all the chrome on the outside of the car. That will be down the road. Plus Frank @ Prodigy Customs cuts me some killer deals on wheels and tires. :_paranoid :_paranoid :_paranoid If I had a second set of wheels, I'd want A6's for autocross at this point. I don't plan on driving from here to Maine in this car. The R888's will be fine for what I have planned for the street and track. |

Good thing you bought that truck at the rate you are unloading and loading stuff lately---- |
Now that the engine is coming along nicely, I'm starting to get motivated to get back out in the garage. I'm currently working on the AC/Heat installation. I designed some custom condensor brackets the other night and they are in the works at my trusty water jet company. They should be pretty trick. I just wasn't happy with the flimsy, cheasy ass brackets. I want something more supportive and clean of course.
Last night and this morning I worked on plumbing the unit under the dash. While it sounds simple, it's quite the head scratching dilema. Both heater hose and one AC connection is on the back side of the unit wedged between the firewall and unit. It's not extremely spacious under there either. Luckily I had already figured out how to mount it and had that set up in the past. I didn't want the heater control valve in the engine comparment and I wanted it to be fairly easy to connect all four connections on both sides of the firewall. This was the cleanest and most servicable way I could come up with. All lines will come straight out and wrap up around the front and or side. All the connections will be made to the unit prior to installation and then it should be fairly easy to make the connections at the firewall. The hoses will be out of site from teh passenger seat and outside the car. On the engine side all all four will be at the same angle in parrelel and go up through the fender and to their respective places. They are angled more towards the fender than they look. http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...Install001.jpg http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...Install004.jpg |
Nice set up Todd. It should be a nice, clean install too.
|
Very clean work. So whats the status on the engine?
|
Man, you are going to love that A/C---that's great you are putting it in---nice install thus far---wish mine was setup that way---
Doug |
Thanks guys:cheers: Jason is plugging away on the engine. He was already porting the heads and had the decks machined. He also spec'd the cam and has ordered it. Last time we talked he was on schedule for February. I'm sure I'll have some photos next week sometime.
|
Keep pushing forward man---every change you make the car just keeps getting more Bad A.
|
would just like to say "i fackin love your car, Todd"
...that is all. [Me walking] walks out of the thread. [/Me walking] |

Moving along nicely Todd! Who bought the wheels/tires?
|
SSable(Justin) is putting them on his 67 that's about ready for paint.
|
Cool.........We will need pics!!
|
Todd --
Let me know if you're going to use beadlock A/C hose and fittings... I have the MasterCool crimper -- all you need is a vice to hold it.... clock 'em and crush 'em.... I could just send it down. PS - If you use the "cad" plated ones -- buff 'em up before you put 'em on the hose - they'll look like chrome. And you'll go faster. |
Greg, I'll take you up on that deal. I was just thinking about who was going to crimp them this morning.
|
If you're ready -- I'll fire it off today -- if not let me know....
PM or email me a shipping address. Let's talk when you get it - and I'll make sure you don't create leakers... |
Sweet deal Greg.
