Keep at it Wayne!
|
You are getting that...just keep plugging away. Looking awesome!
|
Thanks Guys We're picking away. Lost power to 1/2 my house today, had to call the power company. we lost 1 leg of the 220 connection to the pole. This is the second time it happened. Real windy last night.
I'm getting ready to order some more hose and fittings. so we can button up all the plumbing.. |
I sold my 454 SBC today, it's going in a 71 Chevelle. Now the Camaro T56 Viper kit will be next to go.
Im going to be getting some more hose and fittings so I can do my intercooler and Hydoboost/Power steering lines. I got a Finch vent tank and the hoses will be in for that to be installed too. Hopefully some progress to report soon, working on a honeydo list right now. |
Good to hear Wayne!
Keep plugging away buddy! |
I went on the computer and ordered some parts today.
I ordered a B&M Stealth Pro Ratchet® 4 Speed Automatic Shifter, #81120 in Black pistol grip. I was going to try to use the Factory 5th gen Camaro shifter and console then I saw a 5th gen with a different B&M shifter and manual shift boot in the console and decided to go this way. it looked nice. I got the extra shift knob with the Lineloc button for it. I also got a set of Truck Lites LED headlight bulbs for it. I ordered some Joe Gibbs BR30 breakin oil for start up. Hopefully I can make some progress now. I used a new site my buddy told me about to ge the shifter and piece for the handle Autoanything.com The cheapest I could find the shifter was $335 and the handle piece for $76. When I went on the AutoAnything site I ended getting it for $290 and $62 for both parts no tax and free shipping. |
I've been in the garage getting ready to get back at it. I had ordered some parts for the motor. I did a cam swap , I got a Brian Tooley cam kit. I used the stage III PD cam with his double springs with titanium retainers and push rods. We put it in this week. I also picked up a CHE trunnion upgrade kit and ARP rocker bolts that we will install.
I also picked up a Fuelab filter on the recommendation from Injector Dynamics. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps8yi0a0hk.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps3sqcgak1.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psvpgn279i.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psfqf6n4sj.jpg |
Nice little bit of progress, glad you're able to get back at it Wayne. :)
|
Thanks.

keep going
X3 Wayne ... keep it moving buddy !
Cheers' Steve |
Thanks Steve. Spent the morning in the garage with my buddy changing out the Beehive springs for the BTR double springs.
Out with the old ! If you can call them that? http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pscenqiwg7.jpg In with the new! http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psjukxqidd.jpg Tomorrow we get on the rocker arms with the CHE trunnion upgrade. |
Nice work. :)
|
The rocker are all together with the CHE trunnion bushing. I had something to do today, they'll go in Monday.
It took no time at all to do the trunnion swap. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psbf8dvjju.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psqfeoaowv.jpg |
So, when are we lining them up Wayne my man?
|
I wish we could do it now, but I would have to push! But I'm heading in the right direction.
|
Last week I went on an excursion in the garage. I had been reading to find out if my supercharger had the solid isolator or the problem some spring isolator. All the reading on forums said it's the spring isolator a call to a GM dealer agreed. So to get ahead of it I decided to change it to the solid one since I had it and the water pump and everything was off the motor. Every one was pretty sure the super charger didn't have to be lifted if I could get to the bottom bolt on the snout. We got it. We broke the snout loose and it couldn't make it over the valley cover breather tube. Then we lifted to S/C and the snout came right off SWEET! Wrong! my crate motor shipped with the solid isolator that GM was sure it didn't have.
A whole day wasted and a whole lot of curse words I haven't said in years. At least I'm sure it good to go. |
Last winter I started smoothing the factory accessory drive to give it a brushed look. I did most of the flat sides and left the inside pockets alone. I finally got around to finishing them and clear coating them. I used Eastwood's 2K Aero Spray Matte Clear, I think gloss would have been better.
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps0pganowr.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psnf6cdo4q.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pske1sa41s.jpg here it is painted and installed. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psj2hhbz0h.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psawiuijmj.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psoefkdqbx.jpg |
Sorry about the wasted time on the supercharger snout. I did mine on the bench. Hardest part was lifting the beast off the engine alone - not a good idea. I used the hoist to put it back.
The brackets look really nice. That is a great idea for guys on a budget like me. What would happen if you sprayed a layer of gloss over the current finish? |
Looking good Waynie, won't be long now:thumbsup:
|
gofastwclass, I think it's staying until I get it running, then next winter if it bothers me too much I'll hit it with scotch brite and shoot it gloss.
Thanks tubbed69 We got a chance to finish some oil cooler lines and route them from the radiator oil cooler back through the filter and to the motor. Finally they all fit. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psuki2te05.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psxcl87oem.jpg Picture from the other side with some of the inter cooler lines, reservoir and pump . http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psfk19d2ac.jpg Next will be where to fit the power steering reservoir. I'm thinking either on the bracket that holds the alternator( If there's room ) or above the Hydroboost it will have two short returns from brakes and power steering pump and one long return to bring fluid back to the pump. not sure if that would work??? |
Wow does your car look fantastic

Thanks!
We did a little in the garage today we decided to put the power steering reservoir next to the brake master. So I took the bracket that holds the Alt,and steering pump off and made a hole above the pump so the return hose could come up and over the bracket then between the bracket and the valve cover. From there it will run over to the reservoir mounted on the inner fender. Here's where I made the hole for the hose to come up over the bracket. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psa8cmmh2j.jpg It will run straight and further away from the header heat. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps3w13yhdx.jpg We're going to try to fit it between the fender and the brake reservoir. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps7k4u7h1p.jpg I also secured the trans cooler lines to the Radiator support and test fit them to the cooler. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psqu2wqqvy.jpg I finished making up the top radiator hose with the Finch adapter with a spot for the steam hose connection, tomorrow I'll make the -4 hose for the connection. |
Looking good, Wayne:thumbsup: . When you're out playing in the garage again thing you could tell me how tall t hat supercharger hat is? I'm thinking it's right about 4.5"
|
You got it AJ, just a CH under 4.5"
I made up the steam hose, but would like some opinions. I want to run the hose under the Radiator hose and tap in the bottom of the fitting at about 5 o clock. Where it goes in the fitting is higher than the highest point on the engine that has cooling water. I think it will work but would rather check before I put any Gates shrink clamps on it. Here it is. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psv3jnsyrs.jpg I put the top heat exchanger line on to test fit. I was going to use short pieces of hose to connect the bends I had to use to get under the radiator support. When I did I figured a way to just have the tubing welded with the angles I needed and weld a -16 fitting on the end to connect the hose that goes to the supercharger lid. The hose you see on it is just to hold it so the welder can set it up to weld. It comes up on the other side of the Rad support. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psnst64oop.jpg In this picture you can see the Radiator hose I made up with a coupler between two pieces of hose. It needs to be seperated in the middle so it goes on the waterpump a little further. Also in this picture you can see the hose from the intercooler reservoir going into the pump. Because of the way I had to get around the fan it was collapsing a little so I ordered some XRP flat wound internal support coil to keep it open. I installed it and installed the fitting and it's good to go now. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psmjtpgvzl.jpg What are you guys using to cut your braided hose? |
What are you guys using to cut your braided hose?[/QUOTE]
Wayne looks awesome....I found using a cut off wheel works better. Although I will wrap it with electrical tape rather than duct tape, it doesn't seem to pull the frayed ends out when you remove it. |

Man you are really making progress now. Looking at all the little details is both exciting and terrifying, reminds me how much I have to do still !
|
If you will put a zip tie on the braided line where you want to cut and then use a cut off wheel to cut into the zip tie and line at the same time, the zip tie will melt and keep the braided together, peeling off the melted part after cool down. It does take a little practice though.

I use one of these...

Thanks guys
I've been in contact with a guy to do some aluminum tubing welds for me. He was supposed to call Monday ,so I text him and still nothing. Sounds like time to look else where. Tomorrow we're going to try to epoxy and tap the power steering reservoir for the returns from the Hydroboost and steering box. I hope something hold on it epoxy wise. |
A lot of small progress done since my last post we installed a couple of fittings on the power steering reservoir and I plumbed it in and mounted on the fender well. I used XRP hose and AN fittings made for power steering pressure.

Then we marked up some hoses that will need to be sent out to be crimped. This pic only shows where it will be mounted, it still needs to be attached to the firewall. I.D. wanted it as close to the injectors as I could get it. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...922/6PtB85.jpg It's not as close as it seems to the header plus it has a heat protection cover on it. The bottom of the filter will be moved over to mount it plumb. |
We're into the wiring now :bang: Not my favorite.... Like Greg W. says one thing at a time!
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...922/936irm.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...924/oJLn9I.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...924/46N2Xa.jpg I had the injector harness covered the same as the rest of the wires but it was too stiff to go where I needed it, so it went back to the way the factory had it. And my latest part from GM $28 http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...923/l2MVGb.jpg GM tucking it to to you one part at a time! |
$15 thru gmpartsdirect.com Just Say'in ........

The annoying thing is there is likely less than fifty cents in cost for that connector. Try to avoid buying parts at a dealer if you can Wayne. Sometimes it's hard to find a part number but there are dealers online with detailed parts diagrams with part numbers. You can save a lot of money and these build are costly enough as it is. Don |
She's coming along nicely Wayne!
