Do you have a source for that slider (on the upper link)? I don't even know the proper name, so I'm having a hard time finding one, but it would great for a project I am working on.

Thanks!

Paul that looks like an adjustable panhard bar mount. They can be found all over the place.

Brian,
The rear suspenion setup is a three link with a horizontal watts link? Is that accurate?

I have not posted on this thread for a long time. I did not drive my Camaro much last year. I spent most of the last year getting the 1965 Corvette ready for OUSCI and I was fortunate to have won last year with it. I started off 2014 with the Corvette at the Goodguys Scottsdale show in March to qualify for the finale in November after SEMA and OUSCI. Greg Weld was nice enough to tow my Camaro to Texas for Goodguys and USCA in March. I won the GG Autocross and finished well in the Texas USCA with wins in the autocross and speedstop before I broke the driveshaft the first road course session.

This past weekend I brought the Camaro back out for the Portland USCA event and I was able to take the overall win in the over 3K class with a win on the road course and 2nd place finishes on the autocross and speed stop.

I will be putting the Camaro away until after SEMA, OUSCI, and GG Finale in November. Back to the Corvette to defend my tittle.

Here are some of the highlights from this past summer:

Brian,
Very cool car.

Now that the car is at its stage in life, would you do anything different? Does the upol keep heat out of the interior? Has all the fiber glass pieces held up to your liking? What wilwood master are you using?

David

efs69 08-05-2014 11:06 AM

Brian, that car is fast. I was glad to see it in action in Portland. Good luck to you the rest of the way.

Man.....I can't believe you were here in My back yard and wasn't.:buttkick:

My chumpcar was even out there but it was My wife's birthday so we were at the coast.

How about you come up for the SCCA national tour in Packwood, WA next July?

My Daughter, Jennifer, has not driven the Camaro or Corvette YET. I purchased a 1993 Miata for her to practice driving and learning a manual transmission. I lowered it, put sticky tires on it, added a roll bar. She started autocrossing just two weeks after she got her drivers permit at 15 1/2. Between school, 4.0 GPA :D , and her full time soccer, we have been able to squeeze in some autocross weekends.
Most first time autocrossers start off slow and have to build their confidence up to go fast. Jennifer, like me, started off too fast out of the gate and I have had to slow her down in the corner entry to get a good corner exit. I am a very proud Dad and she is progressing nicely. I still think that she will be in the Corvette and Camaro before she is 17. She will start in the Corvette first as it is a bit easier to drive.

Here she is at a recent event:

This is a video of Jennifer on her 3rd ever autocross run 2 weeks after getting her drivers permit at 15 1/2.

Nice job Brian, soon she will be challenging you and Mark at Optima in Vegas!!!

GregWeld 08-23-2014 06:15 AM

Let us know when she beats Grandpa....

LOL

I wish I'd have gotten my kids involved with Go Karts and driving like this. Good for you Brian.

glassman 08-23-2014 07:36 AM

Very nice!!!
Great approach, start basic, work your way upppp.
Congrats once again, i'm sure as you know that is the real prize/pride in life!!

dave96dcm 08-25-2014 05:47 PM

That's great! It's good to hear you're passing the knowledge onto another generation. What's the biggest tires anybody has put on a miata..... I know a few people that have put LS1 drive trains in. That could be a stepping stone for her.

InfernalVortex 08-29-2014 03:35 AM

How did you attach the lexan spoiler to the factory one? I'm wanting to do something similar with mine, but I dont have much faith that the factory plastic spoiler is strong enough to bear the kind of loads that would result.

My deck lid is a VFN fiberglass part that was reinforced. I installed nutserts on the back side. The spoiler is 10 inches tall and I have been up to 152 mph with no issues.

What brand is the factory style spoiler? How thick is the lexan? 1/4"?

67goatman455 09-13-2014 10:32 PM

Toggle switch on the dash in a convenient location. No issues.

Two amazing cars, but I’m really intrigued by the performance of your Corvette with a basically stock suspension. Are you running offset trailing arms and a shortened spring? Speaking of springs (if its not a racers secret) what rates are they F/R?

The Corvette uses ALL STOCK suspension components except JRI Shocks and custom spring rates. And yes, both settings are top secret.

Just read the whole thread, awesome build mate that is one fantastic car, has given me lots of motivation for my current build! you have plenty of fans down here in Australia mate keep up the awesome work!

I will be taking the Camaro to the first Optima Ultimate Street Car event at Thunderhill on February 28th. I am making a few changes to the car to get ready for the event.

The light weight hood I have been running does not have vents. At about 125 mph the hood starts to shake from under hood pressure. At 130 is gets worse. At 140 - 155 is it out of control. I just installed some ACP carbon fiber vents to help remove some of the air pressure that builds up. I may need to go bigger, but I will try these to start. Thunderhill top speed on the front straight is in the low 140's for me.

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...ps3a4adaaf.jpg

I also corner weighted the car again. I changed the transmission bell house from a stock Corvette aluminum unit to a steel scatter shield. Safety added over 40 lbs to the car. The aluminum bell housing I had on developed a crack.
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...ps5f2afe35.jpg

I just ordered door glass for the car, so that is going in next.

Payton King 01-12-2015 07:24 AM

Door glass? Next thing you know you will be putting carpet in it. LOL

Love the updates and glad to see you are bring this bad boy back out.

LS7 Z/28 01-12-2015 08:29 AM

How much ballast do you have on the car Brian, what does it weigh without it? Glad you are still planning on running this car, it's one of my favorites out there.

WSSix 01-12-2015 11:23 AM

Looks good! hope the hood vents work for you.

glassman 01-12-2015 06:01 PM

Funny, i was looking for a good pic of your hood latches last nite. I was watching the Portland OUSCI and saw what you were talking about with your hood. Is it Anvil? I'm expecting the same problems, but only 129ish at the front stretch at t-hill and haven't installed the anvil hood yet....

If you have no side windows for optima
is it points deduct or exhibition run only.
Are you running wipers?

GrabberGT 01-13-2015 05:14 AM

I take it the rear spoiler is too tall as well?

The hood is a VFN fiberglass hood. Our Camaro's need to vent the air out somewhere. I wanted to vent it more on the sides, but the shape of the hood and vents available did not allow me to.

Bob,

I take a hit in points for no roll up windows. I still squeeked out the win in Portland with the deduction. This year is a bit steeper deduction, 3 pts for no windows and 3 for not being able to seal up the interior.

I run wipers, stereo, horn, lights... everything else needed

I have an 8" spoiler. All good :excited:

Thanks for the info Brian
I will take the hit in points as I am more
interested in losing some weight on the car
It was 3710lbs two years ago with no stereo, wipers
or horn.. I think I will do a horn but that is it
I have mono springs out back -70lbs, removed door glass
and operators ??? lexan rear window??
going to do the door bars, glass hood and front bumper which
alone is -60lbs by itself on Bird

I am in this for the fun and trying to get close

Bob

Hi Brian,

50.4% left side weight & 49.6% right side weight is pretty dang close to 50/50. Sweet !

We achieve that 50/50 L/R balance in scratch built race cars because we can put stuff where ever. But that's often hard to do in production based cars. Good job.

I'll see you at T-hill.

Thanks Ron. We could have got it closer, but we figured the fluctuation in fuel level at this point put us dead on. That is with about 3/4 tank. We run full as much as possible on the autocross. Full gets it even closer.

I also need to loose about 8 lbs. :walkingdog:
